Unexpected Marriage With Mr. Leighton: Rebirth of the Villain-Chapter 25: A WATERMELON BABY
Chapter 25: A WATERMELON BABY
A harsh punch landed on Arlo’s face when he confessed to Arthur Lozen, the head of the Lozen family, that Aubrey was pregnant with his child.
Arlo wiped the blood from the corner of his lips. He could have avoided the attack, but he stayed since he knew he deserved it. If Arthur knew what actually happened to River, he was sure that he was going to kill him.
Though Arthur favored Aubrey over River, River was an asset to their family. Arthur loved Aubrey like a daughter, but Arthur loved River like his favorite subordinate.
"Is this the reason why River ran away?! Is this the reason behind her disappearance?!" Arthur roared angrily. He grabbed a gun from the table and pointed it at Arlo, but another gun was pointed at his head.
"You can hit him as you like for his mistakes, but he is still my son. I am not going to let you kill him before my eyes, Arthur." Jack furrowed his brows. "Put it down."
Arthur was shaking; he was tempted to pull the trigger and kill this young man before him in his rage, but in the end, he put down the gun, but the anger didn’t cease at all.
"Tell me everything," Arthur growled.
Seeing Arthur was no longer pointing his gun towards his son, Jack put away his gun as well. The three of them were in his office room after a long meeting to discuss the cancelation of their last order. It would hurt their business, but the only one who was qualified to do it was only River, yet that woman had gone missing for weeks. No one could find out where she had gone.
Arthur became suspicious that someone had kidnapped her or harmed her, but then River was not that easy to kidnap or threaten. She would have found a way to escape now, but if she didn’t, it only meant one thing: she had died.
However, to think that River had run away just because she broke up with Arlo didn’t make any sense at all. He knew his daughter and River were not like that. Or maybe it was because he didn’t know his daughter as well as he thought he did...
"How did she know about the two of you?" Arthur demanded, fury laced in his voice, but he was calmer than a minute ago.
Arlo and Aubrey had agreed to a story that they were going to tell their fathers in their confession. Thus, when Arlo spoke, his words were smooth and sounded sincere and honest.
"River learned about it when I and Aubrey decided to let her know, since Aubrey is pregnant right now. She didn’t take it well, and she almost hit Aubrey. I came between them, and she left. That’s the last time I saw her."
All the people in this circle were used to lying. They lied as naturally as they were breathing. There was no hesitation. They looked at the other person’s eyes when they lied.
"I have gathered my men to look for her, but she is very good at getting rid of her own tracks."
Arthur narrowed his eyes; his sharp eyes met Arlo’s when he spoke. "Why did you gather your men around the Aspen Bridge?"
Unfazed, Arlo answered that. "There is a factory near the Aspen River; the factory belongs to the Leighton family. Recently, our family struck a deal with them, and the factory will be our joint cooperation."
Arthur asked a few more questions, but Arlo could answer all of them. He didn’t feel guilty for lying, but he regretted how it ended...
Arlo still believed River was still alive.

Hazel woke up with a headache because she had that annoying nightmare again about the night in the Aspen Bridge. She didn’t need the reminder every night. She was done with it.
Stretching her body, she looked around her and realized she was not in her bedroom. She then remembered what happened yesterday and checked her phone. Just as she expected, there were hundreds of missed calls and messages from Greyson, Dylan, and Logan.
She assumed they must have learned that she was not at home, and if they wanted to dig deeper, they would know where she was going, since the airplane ticket was still in her name even though Ranon was the one who paid for it.
"Whatever," Hazel said; she put away her phone when it rang again and then got up. She expected to see Ranon, but he was not here.
With four bedrooms and two living rooms, this apartment could be called a penthouse, and she wondered why Lucian and Ares didn’t stay here. There were enough rooms for them.
Walking barefoot, Hazel went to the kitchen and helped herself to make breakfast. On the fridge, she saw Ranon’s handwriting on a note.
"’Will be back at night?’" She clicked her tongue. "Fine. It means I will have this place for myself the whole day."
Hazel grinned and then touched her stomach.
"See? You will be born into this kind of family; be grateful; not all people can live in this penthouse."
And after that, Hazel spent her time gathering information about recent activities of the Barlowe family and the Lozen family. When she got bored, she looked for more information about pregnancy.
She didn’t really have any ideas on how her body would change.
"Ugh..." Hazel grimaced when she watched the process of giving birth. The more she watched, the more she traumatized herself.
When she was younger, she was busy training, and when she was ready for the field, she was busy killing her targets, running around to gather information. Thus, when she learned she couldn’t get pregnant, she didn’t even have any desire to look at what pregnancy looked like. This new knowledge baffled her.
"Should I rethink my decision? Is this worth it?" Hazel scratched her head. "How could a watermelon come out of there? Damn. What if I don’t survive that?"
