Chapter 21: SHE IS COMING HERE

"Baby, sorry. But, at the very least, you will live with luxury, okay?" Hazel patted her stomach lightly. "I will love you the best I can as well. So, sorry for using you. Promise, I will buy you as many toys as you want. As long as you stay away from drugs, we will be cool. Even if you kill someone, I will cover it for you."

Hazel cringed. She felt stupid to talk to her reflection inside her bathroom while staring at her stomach. She didn’t know how to take care of a baby; she didn’t think motherhood was for her. There was a time when she thought her inability to conceive was actually a blessing in disguise.

But now, the reality was thrown in her face.

There was a possibility that Ranon would refuse the baby, and if that happened, she wouldn’t be able to enter the Leighton family, which meant it would take a lot of effort for her to get close to the Barlowe family by using the Rose family’s connection.

Shaking her head, she grabbed her bag and walked out of the bathroom, but when she opened her bedroom door, Logan had been standing there, he crossed his arms with knitted brows.

"Heaven! What are you doing, standing there fascinated by my door?" Hazel was rarely startled; thus, Logan annoyed the hell out of her.

"Where are you going?" Logan asked; he caught sight of her bag. "You are not allowed to go out, right?"

He must have overheard Dylan’s warning. What a snooper.

"None of your business."

Logan caught her hand, but Hazel deftly swatted him away. "So, it’s true. You ARE pregnant." He looked down at her stomach, as if he could see any sign of her pregnancy, which made Hazel feel uncomfortable.

Hazel gave him a look, but she didn’t answer his question and continued to walk away from him, yet her brother was exceptionally noisy today.

"Are you going to run away?"

"Where are you going?"

"Do you even have money?"

Annoyed, Hazel turned around; she raised her leg, intending to kick his balls, but decided to step on his toe instead in the last minute.

"Argh! What is that for?!" Logan groaned; he limped and took a step back, away from his little sister, who suddenly became so bold.

"Can you be quiet?!" Hazel hissed viciously.

"If you are worried about Dylan, he is not at home!" Logan yelled back at her. Never in a million times did he think he was going to have a shouting match with her.

"Good." Hazel nodded and then glanced at her watch; her flight would be in two hours from now. Ranon agreed to buy her a ticket because apparently, he was very busy and couldn’t leave his meeting.

"Wait!" Logan rushed towards Hazel again when she strode away.

"What?! This time I am going to kick your balls if you try to stop me again!" Hazel snapped.

Instinctively, Logan put some distance between them, safe enough for her not to reach him or his balls. "Where are you going? I will drive you."

Hazel narrowed her eyes. "Are you high?"

"I want to ask the same thing of you. Are you using drugs? How could you be so bold now?" Logan mimicked her expression; he narrowed his eyes. "It’s not like you."

"Believe me, I don’t feel like myself either," Hazel muttered. She glanced at him and wondered why he talked so much with her. The only interaction that Hazel remembered between her and Logan was when he bullied her and snapped at her. "So, are you going to drive me?"

"You are pregnant," he said as if that could be an excuse enough.

"Fine, drive me to the airport."

"Where are you going?"

"Airport," Hazel repeated dumbly, irritating him.

Lucian and Ares exchanged looks with each other; they didn’t understand why Ranon was being like this. It was almost like there was a storm inside the room.

The tension of the meeting heightened, and everyone wore this uncomfortable look on their faces, secretly glancing at Ranon, as if they were waiting for him to explode.

Somehow, they became self-conscious enough, thinking the presentation was not to his liking; that was why he looked like that. But little did they know, Ranon didn’t even listen to them at all. His mind wandered somewhere else.

Ranon glanced at his watch and stood up, which made all of them straighten their backs.

"This meeting adjourns; we will continue in three hours."

And without further explanation, Ranon walked out of the office, leaving them with a lot of questions that Lucian and Ares had to deal with, even though they didn’t know what the answer was.

"What happened with the boss?"

"Why does he look so angry?"

"Did you two make a mistake?"

Lucian clicked his tongue in annoyance. "I don’t know, okay. If you want to know, you should ask him instead of hounding us."

All of them then made their own theory and gossiped as they walked out of the room, leaving Lucian and Ares alone.

Meanwhile, Ares tried to call Ranon, but he didn’t pick up his phone; he then tried to call a few people only to get a very limited answer. He opened his laptop and checked on something.

"What is it?" Lucian moved closer to him.

"He bought a plane ticket three hours ago," Ares informed him.

"For whom? For him?"

"No, for Hazel Rose. She is coming here, and I think he is picking her up at the airport right now."

"What? That didn’t make sense at all!" Lucian widened his eyes. "Why is he so obsessed with that girl? Is he under some kind of charm?"

"Maybe," Ares replied absentmindedly. This was not like Ranon at all to act recklessly like this, especially to meet with Hazel Rose in public.

Thankfully, Hazel Rose was not a famous figure. Only a few people might recognize her as the daughter of a politician.

It should be safe from the media, right?
