Under the vampire Lord's protection-Chapter 175: Levels
Chapter 175: Levels
The piece of parchment Edna concealed between her breasts burned to no end, forcing the maid to begrudgingly snatch it out of there.
"Answer the messages, Edna!" inked in black, those words glowed a fiery red around the borders, that effect being null doubt what caused the scorching sensation on her skin.
In reaction to them, Edna’s features twisted further, hands only trembling harder before crumpling the paper and furiously shoving it in one of her pockets.
Even from within, she huffed and puffed, determined to ignore all incoming messages until the whim to respond struck her.
For those buffoons, with all of their means and might, failed to abduct one measly little girl.
Not only that, but they had the goal to reach out to her after fumbling such a pathetic task despite combining their efforts and that, very likely, was in order to ask of her to pick up the pieces after their embarrassing defeat.
That was less than ideal, she thought. If they weren’t even capable of holding their end of the bargain, then Edna owed them nothing.
The piece of paper sizzled hotter, the whooshing and shooshing sounds emanating from it weren’t easy to ignore. Edna made a mental note to drown the parchment in water the moment she’d get the chance to.
To hell with the consequences, the maid wasn’t going to be bossed around by a bunch of incompetent, self-absorbed businessmen.
As soon as time would allow it however, because right then and there, something else kept her mind busy.
Thoughts of all sorts, ringing softer then louder, all in her own voice, screaming at her to run and barge into Silas office, to catch them in the act.
But knowing the consequence for such behavior would be dire cooled her down a notch.
Curiosity ate at her sanity, ravaged her from the inside out with questions at the front of the line, pushing and shoving each other only to realize in the end that they hailed from one source, thus earning them a shared answer.
What business did Silas have with Ada? What sort of conversation would bring them together?
Was his precious doll broken beyond repair, leading him to seek attention from the closest person to her?
What need could wimpy and scaredy Ada possibly fulfill for him?
Edna waited not so patiently for Ada to leave his office. Unlike Arabella, Ada had no one watching over her, leaving her open for questioning.
Indeed, Edna did not waste a second as the instant Ada traversed the hallway leading down the maids’ quarters, she was immediately intercepted by the blonde.
The latter gripped her by the shoulders before violently pinning her back against the nearest wall, allowing her not a second to react.
After the initial gasp that escaped her lips, the wind was sort of knocked out of her lungs. Eyes wide like saucers and mouth agape, Ada stared back at her attacker for a good moment before furrowing her eyebrows upon recognizing Edna.
"What... What are you doing?" Ada stuttered a few times while putting her best efforts to free herself.
"What were you smiling for?" Edna made sure her breath hit Ada right in the face.
Shutting her eyes and turning her face away, Ada pushed back against the blonde’s shoulders, but to no avail. She barely even budged.
"What is wrong with you?" red in the face, Ada looked back at Edna to try and perhaps reason with her since the physical route yielded no results.
"What is wrong with me? No! What is wrong with all of you here? Why did he summon you? Speak!" Edna spat through gritted teeth.
"Unhand me right this second, Edna! I won’t ask again!"
"Oh wow! Look at you! One meeting with the Master and you already grew horns of your own," the blond scoffed, inching her face closer to Ada’s, "Perhaps I should simply rip that tongue out of your throat once and for all!" freewёbnoνel-com
Surprisingly, Ada did not squirm or quiver harder as Edna had expected, but on the contrary, looked her dead in the eyes and challenged her further, "Do your worst then! I am not scared of you, wench!"
Incredible it was! She even dared call her names!
Ada! The same Ada who usually trembled when any soul would raise their voice around her...
Had it not been for the sheer shock of it, Edna would have struck Ada across the face, but right at that moment, all she managed was a stifled laugh.
"Am I a wench now? When did you grow such a sturdy backbone then?" she chuckled.
"Everyone has their limits, and I am sick and tired of your antics, Edna! If you want to know what the Master and I talked about so badly then I dare you to knock on his door and look him in the eyes while you ask that question! How about that?"
"You little..." Edna had started grunting under her breath through a stiffened jaw.
However, Ada seemed determined to stand her ground, "But you won’t do that, will you?" Ada’s irises flickered from left to right, again and again, between Edna’s without blinking for far longer than she should have been able to, "You couldn’t face him with such a rotten attitude if you tried! You have always been that way, taking your frustration out on those you believe are beneath you!"
"You are beneath me! Never make the mistake of thinking otherwise, you little rat," Edna hissed, her face flushing redder by the second. She then stared Ada up and down before speaking again, "Is this what a week in her company does to the person?" that faint smirk the blonde had on around the beginning of their exchange returned, "You start thinking you’re special out of nowhere like this,"
"Leave her out of this!" Ada grunted.
"Did I or did I not warn you not to believe her deception? She does not play on the same level as we do, you and I. You won’t be spared should anything happen. They will put all of the blame on you because in their eyes, in his eyes, you are nothing!"
