Chapter 607: Chapter 417: Sub-Profession [Scroll Master], A New Way to Make Money!

"To be safe, have the Gale Squad fall back three meters beyond that line and prioritize defense."

Having made his decision, Hong Yang didn’t hesitate and immediately began repositioning his troops. After a flurry of rapid tactical adjustments, the second wave of Bear Monsters drew ever closer.

As the Bear Monsters entered shooting range, Olaf decisively commanded the Skeleton Archers to commence firing. Their primary target was the tallest Bear Monster, as Olaf wanted to test its strength.

However, as the poison arrows soared through the air, before they could even hit their target, the seemingly sluggish Bear Monster leader suddenly flew into a rage. A fierce gleam flashed in its eyes.

"Cursed Corrosive Poison! Cursed Undead! I will punish you for your recklessness!"

With its angry roar, the Bear Monster leader reached behind its back, as if activating some hidden mechanism. Immediately, a dense swarm of black shadows surged from its back, completely blocking the dozens of poison arrows. They had articulated limbs, sharp fangs, crimson eyes, and faintly fluttering transparent wings. They were all Fierce Mantises, each about a foot long!

Although the Arrow Rain instantly killed forty or fifty of the creatures, their numbers were still overwhelming. At least two or three hundred remained, and they shrieked piercingly as they charged directly at Fang Zhou’s group.

Fang Zhou frowned. I haven’t even recruited more Harpies for my air force, and now the enemy is already rushing me with theirs!

Fortunately, their combat power is even lower than the Flower Butterfly Girls’; they’re merely Apprentice-level creatures. It’s not like I’m completely out of options.

"Poison Cloud Skill!"

"Skeleton Shock Wave!"

While directing the Skeleton Archers to fire volley after volley at the rapidly approaching Fierce Mantises, Fang Zhou also began to cast spells with swift movements. A cold energy erupted, forming a thick Poison Cloud. The air instantly filled with a pungent, deathly stench that made it hard to breathe.

The Poison Cloud tore a huge hole in the approaching mantis swarm. Countless Fierce Mantises struggled within the toxic mist, emitting shrill screams before melting into pools of rotten flesh that splattered across the ground.

At the same time, the members of the Calamity Squad and the Gale Squad unleashed their own Attack Skills. The Skeleton Archers continued their precise shooting, each poisoned arrow finding a vital spot and tracing a deadly trajectory to its target. The Mages unleashed a variety of elemental magic. Fireballs, Ice Cones, and Thunder intertwined, forming lethal volleys of attacks.

Following a series of dull thuds, their coordinated attacks wiped out over half of the dense mantis swarm almost instantly. The ground was littered with countless mantis corpses, and the air grew heavy with the thick scent of blood.

At this point, the Fiery Demon Swamp Frog brazenly activated its Flame Burst Skill, imbuing all of its attacks with additional flame damage for a short period. Once it began swinging its large, synthesized fish fins, the mantis swarm was devastated. Any mantis merely grazed by the fins was shredded, and any that took a direct hit was obliterated. Even the mantises that managed to escape the direct attacks were not safe. The strong winds generated by the swinging fins sent them tumbling, robbing them of their ability to fight. They could only roll helplessly through the air before crashing to the ground.

A few Harpies also joined the battle, wielding wooden Long Spears. They weaved skillfully through the air, their spears thrusting out like flashes of lightning. However, their power and attack speed were low, so their actual impact was limited.

The true aerial combat duty fell to the twenty Skeleton Bats Fang Zhou had hastily summoned. These Skeleton Bats circled above, continually swooping down to attack. Their flight speed was so extreme that the mantises could hardly track them.

Despite this, the mantises’ numbers were still large. Under their cover, the Bear Monsters began to charge forward.

If the ranged units can’t thin their numbers first, the pressure these large creatures will put on our melee troops will be immense.

Just then, a loud shout came from behind Fang Zhou.

"Boss Fang Zhou, have your Summoned Creatures spread out a bit! This move of mine is indiscriminate."

Fang Zhou turned to see Wu Di grimly activating a Magic Scroll. As the magic surged, a powerful gale rose out of nowhere. Fang Zhou and his group scattered just in time, suffering almost no effect, but the Fierce Mantises weren’t so fortunate. Almost without exception, they were all blown dozens of meters away.

It was the Storm Attribute Skill: Gale Whistle.

The power of Gale Whistle was beyond imagination. It not only scattered the mantis swarm but also disrupted the Bear Monsters’ charge. For a moment, the battlefield was filled with nothing but the roar of the wind and the sight of tumbling mantises.

Creating Magic Scrolls is no easy task. It requires an Alchemist with the Scroll Master Sub-profession to spend immense effort inscribing the magic onto suitable materials. A Magic Scroll this powerful would definitely cost upwards of several hundred contribution points.

It seems the Gale Squad was well-prepared to venture this deep into the unexplored territory of the Forest of Nature. No wonder they were so confident.

Seeing the remaining mantises blown into a single cluster, Fang Zhou’s eyes lit up. He decisively activated the Ring of Shock on his hand and launched another Skeleton Shock Wave, instantly killing dozens more and scattering their remains.

The Fiery Demon Swamp Frog seized the opportunity, charging forward with its fins swinging wildly. Along with the Skeleton Bats and Harpies, it intercepted the disoriented mantis swarm.

The Skeleton Archers were finally free from the mantis swarm’s interference. At Olaf’s command, they began firing again. This time, they ignored the Fallen Bear Monster leader and targeted the other ordinary Bear Monsters instead. Their goal was to reduce the enemy’s numbers as much as possible!

Soon, one Bear Monster was riddled with so many arrows it became little more than a decaying husk.

Based on the intelligence from the Eagle Mother, Fang Zhou knew some of these Fallen Bear Monsters might possess a Bear Spirit incarnation, which gave them different Attributes and appearances. Based on the information Fang Zhou had gathered during the brief battle, the Skeleton Archers were now prioritizing the Bear Monsters that likely possessed higher Attack Power.

The Fallen Bear Monster leader grew even more enraged when its signature move proved useless and it was struck by several more poison arrows.

"You cannot defy the Abyss!"

It roared once more, then grabbed a nearby four-meter-tall Bear Monster and unbelievably hurled it toward them. From the whistling sound it made sailing through the air, anyone could tell this attack was no laughing matter.

However, either because this was its first time using the move or because it overestimated its own strength, its aim was terrible. It failed to throw the creature toward the Skeleton Archers, their greatest threat.

Wu Di screamed from behind, "Scatter! Quickly, scatter! That Bear Monster is flying right at us!"

But it was too late.

With a deafening BOOM, the entire area trembled.

The Undead Creatures at the point of impact were instantly crushed to death. Any that were lucky enough to survive nearby were left stunned and disoriented. What’s more, a hapless Zombie was grabbed by the thrown Bear Monster, which began to tear into it with massive bites. Within seconds, the Zombie went still.

In contrast, the thrown Bear Monster’s eyes began to glow red, and both its Attack Power and attack speed increased.

Ordinary Bear Monsters were benign creatures with the Natural Attribute, able to survive on just sunlight, grass, leaves, and water. But these things can eat flesh and drink blood... No wonder they’re called Fallen Bear Monsters!

But it was still alone and outmatched. At a wave from Fang Zhou, Olaf immediately led a group of Skeleton Warriors and Zombies to swarm the creature. A flurry of bone swords and claws descended upon it, causing blood to fly from the Fallen Bear Monster’s body.
