Ultimate Gamer System: Factory Must Grow!-Chapter 37: Step by step, towards the goal
[Constructor’s office: Completed!]
Theo violently shook his head, his arms tensing up mid-swing, only for the spike of his pick to strike down at the stone, sending an unpleasant wave of vibration throughout his body.
"Ugh…" Theo groaned a little, almost letting go of the tool.
It would be a wise choice to deprive himself of the still vibrating tool… but one that Theo’s pride disallowed him to make.
And so, he gritted his teeth and held on to his pick, standing still for the few more moments it took to finally calm down.
"Now then…"
Raising his eyes, Theo finally paid the notification its due attention. And then, inevitably, the corners of his mouth curled up into a satisfied smile.
"Finally," he breathed out, a sense of relief washing down his spine as if someone had just removed a massive weight from his shoulders.
This wasn’t just a random, single upgrade to his mansion.
No.
The constructor’s office being built was like a door to the future opening right before Theo’s outreached hands!
’But before I start celebrating, let’s see what it actually does…’
Curbing his excitement a little, Theo took in a deep breath before taking a dive into his system, checking the details of all the other upgrades he could still do.
First came the tier one upgrades that he left for later with how there was all the other stuff for him to do. And while already cheap when compared to tier 2 stuff… their cost had now reduced to but a quarter of their original price!
"Wait…" With his breath getting stuck in his throat, Theo scrolled past all of the first-tier stuff, desperate to see whether things were actually as good as they looked to be…
Only to then breathe out as reality poured just a cup of chilly water onto the fires of Theo’s expectations.
As anyone could guess, things were not as perfect as they were in the case of the first-tier upgrades. But while the cost reduction didn’t quite reach three-fourths of the original expense… it sure did reach a whopping half of it!
"All out of nowhere, I can not only make the walls and then two more towers," Theo muttered to himself, resisting with just a sliver of his will from just pushing all of his resources into the stone wall and then as many towers as his current stockpile of stone would allow him to construct.
Yet, pretty much as soon as he hesitated… Theo found himself baffled by his own reaction.
"What am I getting scared of? Am I just getting cold feet, worried things will take a turn for the worse the moment I allow myself to ride this wave of growth?"
It wouldn’t be the first time such a thing happened. Case in point, him upgrading the manor to the second tier was exactly what put Theo in his current predicament!

’Right, speaking about the predicament,’ he thought, his eyes moving down to the one and only counter left that mattered more than everything else.
[Time before the first wave of challengers: 16:28:02]
"Ugh…" Theo groaned a little. "It seems I’ve wasted two minutes just getting excited, huh?"
Shaking his head over his mismanagement of the one resource he couldn’t get more of no matter how hard he tried, Theo took in a deep breath before slowly sighing it out.
"Well then, let’s get the ball rolling," he muttered under his nose before slowly raising his face and putting on a small, satisfied smile onto his lips. "System… I wish to construct the stone wall."
This was the moment of truth. The one moment when he would come to find out whether or not his former worry was warranted. But seeing how things were moving pretty much perfectly…
[Error!]
[The designated wall-space is currently occupied!]
[Marking out the building area. Clear it out of the obstacles for the construction to continue!]
"Haaaah…"
This time, Theo breathed out a sigh of slight disappointment.
’It’s not like I didn’t expect this to happen, but…’
Allowing himself just a moment to think things through, Theo quickly put his pickaxe away, switching over to his other trusty partner—or rather, its iron replacement.
"I guess it’s time for me to cut down some trees, huh?" he muttered, before actually putting the iron axe right back into his inventory. He then rushed back up the long tunnel of his mining shaft, all the way back to his mining base.
"Oh right, before I forget…"
Right as Theo was about to rush over to the upwards-leading spiral staircase he dug directly into the dirt of the underground, he made sure to make a quick stop by the wall of furnaces he had set up before getting himself into the mining zone.
There, not only did he collect all the ingots from the ores he actually mined, but he also made sure to clear his inventory of the trace amounts of ore he gained from mining nothing more than stone itself.
"This is nowhere near enough to cover my needs long-term, but for now…" Theo shook his head before chasing away all the thoughts of doubt or hesitation. "For now, this will have to suffice."
With how little of the iron ore Theo dared to mine in fear of potentially destroying the resource vein of this area, he ended up with but three stacks of smelted ingots, a far cry from what he needed to complete all of the important upgrades of tier two.
’At this rate, I might need to set up the mining guild before focusing on the defenses, huh?’ Theo thought before taking a quick look at the list of the upgrades.
Even with the requirements cut in half… his true goal, the specialized industry, still remained as the one project that was truly out of his reach. Not because of the wood and stone, not even because of the nails that he could now craft en masse… but because he simply didn’t have enough iron ingots to spare, not after crafting the necessary iron nails, that is.
When it came to the mining guild, however…
"System…" Theo muttered, no longer bothering to raise his eyes and add any sort of celebration to the moment, opting to just… get it done. "I want to establish a mining guild!"
