Chapter 27 - Daring To Take What He Wants

And once again, Merikh found himself unable to resist the moistened invitation of the lady's lips.

Reaching out, he carefully grasped her by the back of her head and connected their lips so hard that Lady Karina nearly fainted with the force of it.

Her entire body was set alight when she tried to resist him at first, but it only took a few seconds later for her to feel his heart, the soft strength of his lips, and surrender completely.

Her hands clutched onto his tunic, her eyes fluttering closed as the man's tongue worked in tandem with hers, tasting that sweetness that was so very addicting.

It made a small, muffled moan of bliss escape her and the sound was so tempting that it was enough to make Van Merikh tug her tightly against his body.

It was the second time he had kissed her so she should have known what to expect—complete utter dominance.

And what she gave him in return was complete, utter submission.

In little time, Lady Karina was limp in his arms as his mouth worked her lips furiously. His tongue, a wicked, heated thing, invaded her sweet mouth and licked her senseless.

And the man was so intimidatingly big that being held by him was the most overwhelming sensation she could imagine; she should very well have been terrified.

Orpheus Van Merikh was a man of fear and death.

But he also seemed to have the sweetest kiss she could have possibly experienced.

With all of the force and lust behind it, there was something innately passionate and inviting about his touch.

There was no doubt that the man could easily crush her, but all she could feel was tender power.

Why was she losing herself to the enemy?

It was a heady and bizarre combination.

And this time when Van Merikh released her, he did not let her go abruptly, as he had done so before. He continued to hold her in his consuming embrace, gazing at her with his dual-coloured eyes as if trying to ascertain why he had suddenly kissed her.

"I will indeed escort you," he whispered huskily. "And I will not tolerate another argument, lady."

With her cheeks flushed with shame, Lady Karina gazed back into his piercing eyes and felt the heat but not the fear she usually associated with him.

She liked the kiss. And she hated that she did.

The lady swallowed hard.

"I specifically told you never to do that again," she said, her voice low and her lips pressing together into a thin line.

"Do what? Kiss you?" Van Merikh's arms tightened around her. "You will not issue orders to me, Lady."

"And I told you that would not be your whore," she barked back, showing that fire in her eyes that he had always known.

"And I have said that you are not, lady."

It was a definitive reply.

Van Merikh had made his point apparent, but Lady Karina insisted on protesting against the liberties he was taking.

If she didn't stand her ground now and take a stance, there was no telling what the man would do in the near future.

Unfortunately, she was proving to be a rather compliant partner and the mere thought embarrassed her to death, especially when his hands had no intention of moving away from her hips.

Her gaze was fixed on the man, still struggling to maintain her composure if she had any at all.

"There are no issues then as long as we are on common ground," she said softly. "And I will issue one condition for you to accompany me to Haleville."

Van Merikh lifted a dark eyebrow. "Making more demands, Lady?"

"One condition, my Lord."

If the man was going to accompany her to accomplish the task, then she would ensure that he did so on her terms.

And furthermore, this was the opportunity she needed to bring Van Merikh away from Moonveil temporarily. She was smart enough to reject his accompaniment to seem convincing enough and it had worked in her favour.

'If he leaves with me, Drosera can enter the beast's haven and have them move somewhere else,' Lady Karina thought.

Van Merikh pursed his lips irritably, shifted his grip, and tugged her impossibly closer. His mouth, with lips both cold and warm somehow, nuzzled her cheek as he inhaled the faint scent of rose deeply.

It was sweet and delectable and made her all the more desirable to devour as he saw fit.

And a sudden thought occurred to the man: What would it be like to have her writhing beneath me, tangled in the sheets, filled with me, and screaming my name to let the entire of Moonveil know who she belongs to?

It was a dark and enticing thought, one that made Van Merikh's jaw twitching.

He shouldn't be imagining it any further.

"Then state your condition and be done," Van Merikh said, his lips brushing over her cheek.

Lady Karina gasped when his lips trailed lower and fixed on her tender neck, sucking gently and sending wild sensations bolting through her body.

She could feel the wet warmth of his tongue, the way his lips sucked on her pulse point and made it race faster and the sweet shivers that made every inch of her skin pebble.

It was becoming increasingly difficult to think straight as the foreign sensations consumed her like a wildfire.

And indeed, the fire within Van Merikh wanted to consume her whole for itself.

"Will you not tell me your condition, Lady?" He spoke with his burning lips against her jaw.

Lady Karina swallowed thickly, struggling against the feelings that were very quickly overwhelming her.

But with her last threads of control, she managed to formulate a reply.

"I would request that you do not maim, burn, or slaughter anyone in order to yield their compliance," she murmured breathlessly.

Van Merikh didn't immediately respond, entangled with his innate desire to hitch her dress up and have a taste of the sweetness between her thighs.

He was no better than a hound with its tongue out, salivating with hunger at the thought of what sounds she would make when he used his tongue and mouth to devour her.

And summoning her wits, Lady Karina put a hand over his mouth to stop his onslaught, forcing him to look her in the eye.

Their gazes met and she arched her brow to emphasise her point.

"Agreed?" She said, "Swear to me that you will not terrorise the villagers in order to gain their compliance."

Van Merikh covked an eyebrow. "As you wish, my lady," he answered through her fingers.
