Twisted Dreams-Chapter 99 - 71: Heart Monkey and Knight of Vengeance!
The Tree of Human Essence was unusually generous today, as a peach fell from its trunk in front of the Little Golden Monkey.
The Little Golden Monkey held it and ate heartily, its ears twitching as it listened to its master’s words.
The Tree of Human Essence said:
"My name is Bodhi."
The Little Golden Monkey was taken aback:
"Then what about me, Master?"
The Tree of Human Essence thought for a while:
"What you have on you is the Heart Demon of a god.
You’ll be called... Li Xinyuan.
They call me the Enlightenment Tree, and as your master, I bestow you a Daoist name.
Your mind is rather naive, so you’ll be called Heartless."
The Little Golden Monkey scratched its head:
"I’m called Li Xinyuan, Heartless.
Is it because the Heart Demon left by that god is on me?
Without the Heart Demon, is the god also naive?"
The Tree of Human Essence blew its beard in anger:
"Ridiculous!"
The Little Golden Monkey shuddered in fright.
But somehow, the Tree of Human Essence felt that what the Little Golden Monkey said made some sense.
Without the Heart Demon, does the god lack a part of its heart?
The Tree of Human Essence’s tone softened:
"Why aren’t you eating?"
The Little Golden Monkey set half the peach aside, rubbed its small hands, and smiled shyly:
"I can’t eat anymore."
The Tree of Human Essence said:
"The origin of the power in you is extraordinary.
If anyone asks, you must absolutely not tell them."
The Little Golden Monkey nodded solemnly, its small body kneeling on the ground in obeisance.
When it looked up again, the Tree of Human Essence had disappeared.
Tears welled up in the Little Golden Monkey’s eyes:
"Thank you, Master, for saving me from the clutches of wicked people, for feeding me, and for awakening my wisdom."
It bowed seriously to the place where the Tree of Human Essence vanished.
The Little Golden Monkey, holding half the peach, walked aimlessly with the feeding dish.
This little monkey was naturally somewhat perceptive, its intelligence far surpassing that of ordinary monkeys.
After its wisdom was awakened, the Little Golden Monkey became even more thoughtful.
It pondered a question.
Who is it, where did it come from, where is it going, and what is the meaning of its existence in this world?
As it thought, it didn’t know where it wandered off to.
A voice full of surprise sounded.
"Isn’t this that monkey?"
The Little Golden Monkey looked up in panic.
In front of it was a camp, with a fire burning.
An old horse was tied up tightly in the middle of the camp, and a few people were about to slaughter the horse for food with knives in hand.
Zhao Yong, holding a knife, looked greedily at the Little Golden Monkey, not minding adding a meal of meat.
A few people walked towards the Little Golden Monkey with malicious smiles.
The Little Golden Monkey wanted to escape, but Zhao Yong skillfully blocked behind the Little Golden Monkey.
"Chirp, chirp, chirp!" 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
The Little Golden Monkey was so anxious that it forgot how to speak.
Zhao Yong thrust a bayonet towards the Little Golden Monkey.
Zhao Yong’s face, looking like a fiend, loomed large in the Little Golden Monkey’s eyes.
So ugly.
The Little Golden Monkey calmed down, and a certain instinctive reaction occurred.
Its body shuddered, and flames shot out from its eyes.
Then, its entire body ignited, like a small ball of fire.
A deep voice echoed in the Little Golden Monkey’s mind.
’When evil is unpunished, the Fire of Revenge from Hell becomes noble.’
"Who’s talking!" the Little Monkey cried out in terror.
The next second, Zhao Yong burst into flames.
He was horrified by the sudden change, rolling on the ground, trying to extinguish the fire with snow.
But this Hellfire was not a common flame, and not even ordinary snow could put it out.
In fact, the snow began to burn as well.
The Little Monkey looked at its hands in disbelief.
Then, a few more heart-wrenching screams echoed in the snow, and soon the camp was engulfed in a sea of fire.
The Little Golden Monkey walked to the center of the camp, looking at the old horse awaiting its death, its dark eyes showing a complex emotion.
It reluctantly placed the half peach it held in front of the old horse’s mouth:
"Master was so kind, his esteemed fruits should be given to those in more need."
The old horse opened its mouth to eat the fruit, a surge of Spiritual Power breaking through the old horse’s Sea of Spirit.
The Little Golden Monkey untied the ropes binding the old horse, taking a few strands of tail hair from its tail, twisting them into a fine string.
After the old horse finished the peach, the Little Golden Monkey picked up the peach pit, threaded the horse tail string through it, and hung it around its neck.
This was in memory of its master.
The Little Golden Monkey was about to leave, and the old horse followed.
This made the lonely Little Golden Monkey feel much better, so it raised its head:
"How about we become friends?"
The old horse raised its head:
"Neigh~"
The Little Golden Monkey clapped its hands with joy, stroking the old horse’s leg, Spiritual Power surged forth.
The old horse was engulfed in flames, resembling a Hell Undead warhorse.
Every generation of Knights of Vengeance had their own steed, and this old horse just happened to become the Little Golden Monkey’s battle companion.
The Little Golden Monkey climbed onto the old horse’s back, clutching the mane, and shouted happily:
"Giddy up!"
"Neigh~"
"Hahahaha, my name is Li Xinyuan! Heartless Daoist! Disciple of the Bodhi Enlightenment Tree!"
.......
South Sea, Half-Mountain Villa.
Li Yang sat on the sofa with his chin resting on his hand, watching TV.
The young lady reporter spoke to the camera:
"I truly carry a profound respect for conducting this interview."
She patted her chest, took an exaggerated deep breath, and said:
"I really couldn’t have imagined ever interviewing Dr. Leon Jin.
People may not know the name Dr. Leon Jin, but everyone surely knows Leon Antibiotics.
This was invented by Dr. Leon Jin during his university years, winning numerous awards!
Today, Dr. Leon Jin is establishing a branch of his company in South Sea City, reportedly introducing a brand new technology.
Let’s ask Dr. Leon Jin about what he’s bringing us!"
An elderly, bald, white-bearded man appeared on screen, wearing a lab coat and smiling amicably.
This was none other than the legendary figure on Blue Star, Leon Jin, head of the God Creation Organization.
Dr. Leon Jin was fluent in six languages, speaking the common language of Xia Country quite well:
"I feel ashamed, I am unworthy of my identity as a research scientist."
The young lady reporter asked:
"Why?"
Dr. Leon Jin displayed the Divine Emblem around his neck and said:
"Because, I betrayed science.
I am now a Believer of a god!"
The young lady reporter looked at Leon Jin in shock.
This part wasn’t in the script!
Dr. Leon Jin carefully put away the Divine Emblem, shook his head, and sighed:
"The more I research life sciences, the more I feel fear.
I have discovered a terrifying truth!"
Dr. Leon Jin looked solemnly at the camera and declared:
"I believe that humans might have been designed!"
The young lady reporter was utterly dumbfounded.
Talking about this on a live channel in Xia Country is a big taboo!
Has Dr. Leon Jin gone insane?
Dr. Leon Jin continued:
"Our life sciences have already reached the point where we can design life.
Just recently, we designed ascomycetes with all hereditary material and chromosomes tailored by humanity.
We rewrote their internal programs.
If we can design life, could someone have designed us?"
Dr. Leon Jin spread his hands helplessly and said:
"Our vision, hearing, and smell might all be simulated neural signals.
Electrical signals, chemical signals, or quantum signals."
Dr. Leon Jin turned to the young lady reporter and asked:
"Miss, how do you see me?"
Finally, there was interaction, and the young lady reporter breathed a sigh of relief.
She had been unable to get a word in, which was dangerous for her career.
The young lady reporter quickly said playfully:
"In my eyes, you are a handsome old man."
Dr. Leon Jin shook his head:
"That’s because your eyes have a resolution of only seventy micrometers.
You can only see the light but not my bones or my organs."
Dr. Leon Jin took off his glasses and said:
"If our eyes saw ultraviolet, we would see much more.
For instance, I can see metal in your collarbone, and your blood sugar is elevated.
I think you’ve had fractures and have diabetes."
