True Alpha's Chosen Mate-Chapter 274: Final Act I: The prophecy of the seven sins
[ Hendrik Empire ]
"She should’ve stayed."
Niall gazed at the dark sky with an almost blank face, thinking of Rinnie and how she simply knocked him unconscious after cleansing his soul. It was better if she just killed him, since she wouldn’t choose him, anyway.
"The child of evil... he always wins, Lamb. You know that." His eyes fastened with sadness, ignoring the sound of fire and screams from a distance as a rebellion he anticipated ensued.
He could hear their footsteps.
Witches and vampires alike joined hand in hand to stop his madness. They were coming for his head and yet Niall remained to lie flat on the rooftop, staring at the night sky where the moon reigned.
"You can’t rewrite what is already written, Lamb," came out a soft voice and then silence followed.
Niall took his time to appreciate the moment of rest that he had never had since many years ago. The silence... the peace... how golden, he thought.
A part of him wished Azazel would achieve his goal. In that case, he would leave the mortal realm and wreak havoc in the empyrean realm. Let those gods and goddesses deal with him since that place was where they truly belonged: the child of evil, the wolf, and the lamb.
Those three... needed to leave the mortal realm for this world to achieve true peace.
But the other part of him also prayed sincerely that Rinnie could change it. Deep in his heart, he was hesitant to let go of the sliver of hope that she would succeed and change the outcome of the repeating history.
"That..." a ridiculing chuckle slipped past his lips as he blinked weakly. "... I’m foolish. How can that happen when I am already a piece of the child of evil?"
Although Rinnie cleansed his soul, she couldn’t break the contract Niall had with the child of evil. He practically sold himself to the devil, and it was a path of no return. The reason he wished Rinnie should’ve killed him since she already knew of this.
"Or rather... the child of evil already lived deep into my soul?" his bitter chuckles continued while shaking his head. "Really... I can’t seem to fathom how this world and our fate will turn out."
He stared at the moon for the longest time and asked, "just what do you have in store for us, moon? Your neglected child will devour your favorite children and come to you to slay you, just as his father’s wishes."
"It’s your fault for betraying them... and we’re simply caught up in your chaotic love affair."
It was hilarious and silly whenever Niall thought about it, but love was a sort of destruction for those powerful gods. The god of the underground felt betrayed and cheated on, and the moon goddess used the former’s affection to achieve her goals.
A true meaning of a messy love affair, causing catastrophe to those who inherited their anger and unresolved issues.
When he recovered from ridiculing the gods and goddesses in the realm he would never reach, Niall closed his eyes. Peace overtook his face as the sound of multiple footsteps landed around his vicinity.
"Lamb, may you succeed," he whispered, opening his eyes ever so tenderly, and caught the moon beaming right down at him. The side of his lips curled up into a subtle smile as his eyes softened at the beautiful light that was akin to a path leading him to the right destination.
A light he had never seen until now.
Here it was.
For the first time, the moon seemed to have finally looked at him in the eye. In the last moments of his life, Niall reached out as it felt like peace was within his reach.
"If you can’t... let’s try again next time."
While Niall was mumbling to himself, reaching his hand up. The witches and vampires who were surrounding him on the castle’s rooftop looked at each other before setting their eyes back on him cautiously.
Although Niall didn’t show the slightest sign he would retaliate, they didn’t let their guard down. Instead, they raised their vigilance.
"Your Highness, now the sovereign of Haimirich, Niall, will face the judgment on the crimes you had committed in the land of Hendrik and its citizen. Acknowledged your people’s rage and face the consequences of your wrongdoings!" yelled a vampire to get Niall’s attention.
Silence was the response they received. But when Niall dropped his hand and finally peeled his eyes away from the sky to the people around him, subconsciously took a step back.
They bared their fangs while witches prepared themselves to subdue him while Niall assisted himself to sit upright. The latter raised his hands in surrender, smiling subtly at them.
"I acknowledge..." he stated in a soft yet resolve tone. "... in one condition."
"You’re not in the place to negotiate, Your Highness. This situation --"
"It involves everyone’s lives." Niall cut him short as he delved into the matter instantly. "Right now, even if I have the strength to kill every single one of you, I do not have enough will to do so. I had found my peace, but..."
He trailed off as he gazed at everyone’s eyes that blazed with a hunger for freedom and peace. These people... were his people. Even if he was evil and committed genocide, Niall did everything for the future of his people.
Each death... he would take responsibility for it, but he was also glad that his people learned to stand up for themselves, even if the enemy was someone as powerful as him. He didn’t need to worry anymore... or maybe he was more worried since these people were really foolish to march to their death all for the sake of freedom.
Either way, Niall would come to terms with it.
"... you hadn’t had your peace," he continued with a bitter smile. He couldn’t leave everyone hanging while he get his ’happy’ ending.
"Even if you execute me right this moment, you... vampires and witches will always have to look over your shoulders. So, will you lend me your ears before I face my people’s judgments?" Niall tilted his head as he bent his knees, sitting leisurely as if he wasn’t about to get executed.
