True Alpha's Chosen Mate-Chapter 271: Final Act I: The awakening 2
"Dan!"
Cora yelled as Daniel suddenly screamed in pain, writhing on the ground. His hand grabbed his hair, forehead on the ground, screaming in agony. Just moments ago, Daniel was fine even after fighting Cedrick, but suddenly, he started screaming and pounding his body against the ground as if he was in utter pain.
"Silas." Desperation covered her face, twisting her neck in Silas’ direction. The latter’s face was pale, watching Daniel with blank eyes.
His grip around Elizabeth’s shoulder tightened, unsure of what was going on. They couldn’t come close to Daniel as he was tossing his body while grunting.
"This is not good." They snapped their eyes when Reks suddenly spoke. His expression hardened as his eyes darkened.
"Your Royal Highnesses, please take Princess Victoria to safety. That one in the sky is the least of our problems," he added in a solemn voice and a low growl, eyes fixated on Daniel. "I don’t know yet, but my feeling tells me we need all able wolves to risk their lives once again. This is far from over."
Cora and Silas, who had been mocking him as they were on the way to regroup with the rest, couldn’t argue with him. Although they were higher in ranks than Reks, the man had a point — a strong one at that.
Even if Reks didn’t say anything, they already knew that. They simply didn’t want to recognize the problem that suddenly rose. Or rather, they needed time to process everything which Reks deemed unnecessary with how quickly the tide turns.
A whimper escaped through Cora’s gritted teeth. "Dan..." Her eyes sweltered, but no tears rolled down her cheek.
"Hah..." when Daniel’s screaming slowly subsided, he panted for air.
"Dan --"
"Don’t!" Reks flung his arm up in front of Cora, stopping her from approaching the crown prince. "Silas, go." He cast his bloodshot eyes at Silas.
"Now!"
Silas’ and Cora’s breath hitched, seeing the terror that overtook Reks’ face. The latter ground his teeth as he roared, setting his sharp gaze at Daniel’s quivering back.
"Go..." whispered Daniel that barely reached his siblings’ ears. "... listen to Reks. I feel like..." he tried to catch up to his breathing, feeling this searing pain from within.
"... being forced into a feral state."
"Daniel..." Cora balled her hand into a fist and ground her teeth. Sadness and fear clouded their features before Silas huffed.
"Cora, let’s go!" he yelled as he took several steps back, glancing at Reks. "I’ll be back."
"Go." Reks nodded after casting them a quick look before setting his focus on Daniel. "Damn it."
As Cora and Silas dragged their feet and fled, Reks took careful steps back to gain momentum. He could feel Daniel’s increasing aura as the lamb’s mask on the side of his head cracked.
The muscle on Daniel’s expanded, ripping a bit of his skin. His sinister growl grew louder, morphing into a berserk form.
Every beat of Reks’ heart echoed in his ear as each breath sounded like a countdown. When an animal roar screeched in his ear, his breath hitched as Daniel abruptly sprung from his crouching position to attack him.
’Shit!’ His eyes dilated as all he saw was a mindless wolf opening his mouth to rip his face off of him.
At the same time, he heard Cora and Silas shout."Reks!"
BAM!
Reks blinked as time clocked back to its usual pace. Relief didn’t even fill his heart, as it was just bewilderment.
Grrr...
Cora and Silas breathed through their open mouth, trying to process what happened in that short time frame. They heaved a sigh of relief upon seeing Reks still in one piece. Their eyes then shifted to the building smoke a couple of meters from Reks’ vantage point.
The outline of two figures resurfaced from the fog. It didn’t take long when recognition crossed their faces upon catching the gigantic figure of the other on top of Daniel.
"Tito!" Cora yelled as the smoke cleared up slightly.
Tito was pinning Daniel with his enormous hands on the latter’s head, knee on his back, pressing his other foot on Daniel’s wrist. Reks finally regained his composure when Cora yelled Tito’s name.
"Ah... shit!" Reks cursed through his gritted teeth before turning his attention to the other two from a distance. "Fuck! Let’s go!"
He didn’t even hesitate or took a second to express his gratitude to Tito as he sprinted in Cora’s and Silas’s direction. The other two furrowed their brows, but for some reason, they started jogging until Reks caught up to them.
"Fuck! Shit! Shit!" Reks kept spewing profanities in distress for some reason.
"Hey! Get a grip!" yelled Silas, despite his puzzlement at his sudden distress. Just now, Reks was willing to be left honorably, but now, he was fleeing with them! If he could, Reks would run past them.
"What the hell is wrong with you?!"
Reks glared at him and grumbled. "Tito is your brother and you don’t know?! Fuck! That guy will kill Daniel if he doesn’t get his shit together."
"What..." Cora trailed off but didn’t stop from running, eyes at Reks’s side profile.
"Have you ever seen Tito fight?" Reks’ eyes glinted as he calmed down slightly, keeping his sharp eyes ahead.
His question received silence. The answer was obvious, and it was a capital NO. They saw Tito spar with a few warriors and some time with them, but not to the point where life and death were at play.
"Fuck... I nearly suffocated back there." Reks broke the silence as he clicked his tongue, knowing the dangers emanating from Daniel and Tito like a silent scream.
"Do you have any idea how Alpha Hugo was kept sane during our Luna’s absence? Tito nearly fucking offed him during one of his episodes. That’s why Alpha Hugo had to take part in every war just so they wouldn’t end up killing each other. Especially now, after years of hanging out with those crazy Tarsa."
"He won’t really kill him, right?" Cora blurted out and realized how stupid her question was right after, but Reks would happily rub that on her face.
"Just hope love conquers all! But apparently, Alpha Hugo’s shenanigans took all your attention that you failed to see that some of your siblings are way worse than him!" Reks exclaimed and gazed at Cora in dismay.
"But... why did Daniel suddenly enter a feral state?" this time, Silas’s deep and solemn voice came out.
"Who fucking..." The three nearly froze when they heard a sinister howl. Although faint, the howl was very distinct and alarming.
"Sally!" Terror covered Cora’s face upon recognizing the dreadful howl.
