Tribe Conquest: Harem starts in a tribe!-Chapter 15: New Attributes!
<Archery skill acquired.>
The panel of runes shimmered, revealing a new, unfamiliar screen.
On the top left corner was written—
Archery:
Below it, around the center, was the text:
Current attributes—
Range : 50m [++]
Accuracy : 50% [++]
Speed : 0.2 APS [++]
Efficiency : 10% [++]
Awareness : 2m [++]
Below it, after an empty line, was written—
Advanced skills and attributes locked.
Buan looked at the unfamiliar panel, studying it closely.
However, before he had even finished reading the attributes, the spell whispered into his ears, its tone giving Buan the feeling of being looked down upon.
The spell will now explain what the attributes represent individually.
Listen carefully; there won’t be a repetition.
Buan got the feeling of being judged dumb by the spell, as if he wouldn’t be able to understand in just a single explanation.
Did the spell think he would doze off in the middle of the explanation like some idiot?
Well, if that’s the case, it would be proven wrong by Buan.
Continuing, the spell’s whisper rang in his ears.
Range here does not mean the maximum range; instead, it refers to the effective range.
Maximum range is how far you can shoot an arrow; however, that is mostly dependent on the bow and arrow you use.
But effective range is the domain in which you can perform best.
It will be easier to explain with the next attribute, Accuracy.
As long as you are shooting a target under the effective range, the accuracy holds.
Meaning, one out of two arrows will hit the target if the said target is not farther than 50 meters.
Buan nodded like a scholar gaining some profound knowledge. He didn’t dare to divert his attention to anything other than the whisper of the spell. After all, he wanted to prove the spell wrong.
Speed here is your speed of shooting.
APS, meaning "arrows per second," represents the number of arrows you can shoot in a second.
0.2 means you need 5 seconds to shoot one arrow.
’Well, it is obvious, isn’t it?’ He commented internally.
He had been a game designer in his past life, being great at math. He could also make these types of small calculations.
Still, one arrow in five seconds was a much greater speed than he initially expected
The spell, however, didn’t pay any attention to him and continued without pause.
Efficiency refers to the draw power efficiency.
How efficiently your draw power converts to the penetration and lethality of your arrows.
It also measures the wastage of strength.
Low efficiency means most of your draw strength will be lost while shooting, leading to your stamina and energy depleting faster than necessary.
Buan’s brows furrowed upon hearing the spell’s explanation. His efficiency was only 10%, meaning his stamina would deplete with each arrow he shot at fast rate.
However, he had now idea how greatly his low efficiency would affect his combat prowess and future plans.
Awareness represents your spatial awareness. The range in which you can detect any movement and shoot it with your arrows without requiring a second thought.
Once your awareness is high enough, you can even shoot with your eyes closed, just from the sound of the prey or its smell.
Buan’s eyes shone with excitement in response to the spell’s explanation. There were many situations where the vision of the archer might be compromised, so this attribute could become indispensable for him.
Moreover, if he were to go against human warriors in future, he could plan his attack at night to take advantage of this attribute.
You can increase any of the attributes with survival merits or by practicing on your own in archery.
However, it may take you years to improve on your own.
’Is it mocking me?’ Buan felt indignant inside.
However, he didn’t react too loudly to the spell’s mockery.
Instead, he inquired about the price.
"How many survival merits does it cost to upgrade one attribute?"
He didn’t have time to waste on useless things. He needed information and come up with a plan to survive in this dark, horrifying tribe.
Trula’s glare when he left at the altar was still fresh in his mind, making him shudder from what he might do to him.
Buan was without any strength right now, the perfect prey to bully. And since he had come between Trula’s plan to marry Selera, he was in danger.
Trula didn’t need to take action himself, there were many people to do his bidding.
While he was becoming anxious at those thoughts, the spell’s reply came suddenly as a flat whisper.
Five survival merits to upgrade one attribute.
The attribute upgrades by a random amount, never constant.
There could even be moments where the attribute might not upgrade by a single unit even after investing survival merits.
Buan nodded in understanding before glancing at his survival merits balance.
Survival Merits: 15
Deciding to use them later, he sighed and said. "Alright, I’m done. You can leave."
Buan still had many questions about the spell and this new world he ended up in; however, he judged them a worry for later. He would discover more information in time anyway.
For now, he thought of the spell as any other system in a game or novel.
The spell disappeared after whispering a last line into Buan’s ears.
Archery requires a bow and arrows; I assume you understand that much.
Buan didn’t react for a brief moment, thinking dazedly afterwards.
’Is it telling me to acquire a bow and arrow, or is it simply making fun of me?’
’The latter seems more likely.’
An amused smile curled his lips, finding the system’s jab a bit funny.
Rumble.
At this instant, his stomach grumbled loudly, protesting against the unbearable hunger. He hadn’t had a grain to eat since the moment he woke up in Buan’s body.
In the original owner’s memories, he had a week’s worth of food stored for him, and if Selera and Lira were included, the food should last them three days.
At this moment, an irresistible aroma assaulted his nose, making his mouth water.
He went out of his room into the huge hall to check. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
Selera and Lira had finished cleaning the house, and Selera was busy making a stew of some sort, stirring a ladle in a pot kept on top of a huge hearth of flames.
Meanwhile, Lira was resting on one of the wooden chairs around the taupe colored, wooden dining table.
Buan’s eyes shone with surprise upon noticing the myriad of furniture in the hall. There was the huge hearth of fire that Selera was using, burning with crimson flames without any firewood. He could see runes inscribed on it, different from the runes on the spell’s panel.
The runes were glowing with a mix of vermilion and amber, the flames in the hearth burning at a constant pace, neither growing nor decreasing. He was confused, unable to comprehend the source of the flames, however, that was only for a minute, as information from the memories gave him his answers.
Similarly, there were lanterns with similar runes, burning without any oil or a wick. It was as if someone captured a sphere of bright flames inside the lantern.
The hall also looked much brighter due to the illumination of these sources of light; however, what surprised him even more was the warmth. The hall was much warmer than outside, including his room, as if someone had turned on a heater from earth inside the house.
He could feel that this warmth wasn’t because of the hearth; it was as if the house was emanating heat from its charcoal colored solid walls. And when he looked at the walls to check, he saw the same glowing runes, just in a different pattern this time.
Buan knew from the memories what these runes were and how they helped create these bizarre phenomena.
By now, Selera and Lira had noticed him.
Selera glanced at Buan and revealed a motherly smile: "Buan, come and take a seat. It is about to be done."
"Mother worked hard to cook for you." Lira informed tiredly, resting her head on the wooden taupe dining table.
’Finally, I can have a meal in peace.’ He sighed in his heart.
However, that turned out to be his wishful thinking, as the entrance door was banged hard three to four times with fists, a rough voice coming from outside,
"Buan, come out and pay us!"
