Tribal Sign-In: Immortal At The Start-Chapter 253: In The Sea
The ship sailed forward and moved towards the veiled islands that were about two days’ distance with its speed at that moment.
As usual, Rion’s Zone covered the whole of the ship and the sea around it to make sure that there were no surprises.
However, the sea itself was too vast and deep, so surprises were still bound to happen.
Beside him, Zaelyane was reading books that she had wrapped in the cover of the herbalist guild, but unfortunately for her, he was able to see beyond it, and the things she was reading were quite surprising at the least.
On the other hand, Yuura was not with them; instead, he was on the deck... it appeared that being a godblood didn’t make one immune to being seasick.
For the past hour, the only thing he had done was curse the sea and vomit in it.
The pirates laughed at him, but his single glare made them feel like bugs were crawling in their bodies.
Francis stayed by the helm as he steered the ship. Alita remained beside him and provided him with everything that he might need.
Rion wasn’t much curious about the sea, not because he didn’t find it interesting, but because the sea was known for its ether beasts that were even stronger and richer than those of the lands, but it lacked a proper civilization or anything similar to be curious about.
He was never interested in the ether beasts because of the kareths, which were simply better, at least according to Rion.
All of a sudden, Rion’s eyes snapped open, and he shot up from his chair.
He glanced at Dora before he left the room and walked over to Francis.
Seeing him, Francis glanced at him and asked with a wide grin, "What happened? Why are you here instead of taking care of that one?"
Rion turned his head to him. "Do not step into things that you’ll regret."
"I have never regretted anything," Francis stated as he puffed his chest in pride.
"Then it will be your first," Rion answered, as he commanded Barney to move all the pirates away from the edge.
Hearing him, Francis burst into an amused laughter and said while looking at the boundless sea that gleamed under the sunlight like it was made of gemstones.
"Life is too damn short to waste on regrets."
The corners of Rion’s lips curled upwards, and he said, "Regret helps you in understanding yourself."
"Not regretting anything and having the strength to move forward are different from each other. One runs away from the consequences of his actions and the other accepts them to continue living."
Francis fell silent at his words, and Rion walked closer to the front edge.
He took out his spear from the inventory, golden flames coiled around it, and he threw it into the sea.
The following moment, a sharp cry tore through the silence, and a heavy amount of seawater rose above the surface.
Once the water fell, their gaze fell on an enormous sea ether beast about half the size of the ship.
Seeing the beast made Rion remember the Krakens that he had read about in the novels of his past life.
The ether beasts had multiple ancient scars, and they appeared furious from Rion’s attack.
Its gigantic eyes locked onto the ship, and it looked around before its eyes stopped on Rion.
Seeing Rion, a bad premonition hit him, but before it could escape, Rion muttered, "Stop."
During the last few months, Rion had found out that each sign-in he did made his Absolute Will more complete and stable, and as he had already signed it at thirty-three locations, it was much stronger than before.
The words left his lips and transformed into the conceptual firmament of stopping, then it flew towards the ether beast and wrapped around it, halting it in its steps.
The ether beast thrashed its tentacles in horror, waves followed them, and Rion muttered, "Pierce."
He placed the conceptual firmament of piercing at the tip of his spear and hurled it at the ether beast.
The spear cut the air as it flew forward and pierced right through the monster’s heart.
The ether beasts let out a sharp, pained shriek, and Rion called his spear back to him.
’It’s not enough..."
Seeing that the monster was still standing, Rion threw his spear once again.
The spear cut the air as it reached its destination, and unlike before, Rion had covered it with his aura.
Just as the spear struck it, golden flames exploded outwards and engulfed the gigantic ether beast.
The pirates and Francis watched him deal with the monster with wide eyes, and Francis mumbled under his breath, "What the heck?"
Even with all of his experience, he couldn’t understand what was going on, why the monster stopped, how his spear pierced it so easily, and how the hell he had such a powerful aura.
Utterly baffled by the person before him, he mumbled, "What is he?"
Rion ignored him and stared at the body of the ether beast as it sank in the sea, and his eyes turned red for a moment.
A heavy sigh escaped his lips, and he mumbled, "According to what Emerson had told Zaelyane. Ether beasts weren’t supposed to attack our ship."
Rion’s grip tightened around the shaft of his spear, and he once again threw it at a nearby ether beast that had enough strength to cause trouble.
His spear streaked towards it, and a single attack was all it took to kill it.
’Why are there so many of them?’ Rion questioned himself upon seeing more than a dozen ether beasts the size of the one he had just killed.
He shook his head to push away all the thoughts and muttered, "It seems others had more than one reason not to journey to the veiled islands."
Francis nodded. "Looks like those seagiants have migrated to this side of the sea."
Rion nodded as he raised his hand, and a golden and black streak flew towards him, and he grabbed his spear.
Seeing his spear, Francis blinked a few times and remarked in his head, ’A serpent...?’
For the next few hours, Rion continuously slayed any ether beast that could cause them any kind of trouble, and once the afternoon fell, they were sailing without any ether beast in the proximity.
Rion returned to the room, and the pirates finally took a breath of relief.
Upon returning to his room, Rion checked Dora’s internal condition and made Zaelyane aware of it.
Zaelyane, who had already finished reading two of her books, listened intently and said, "Stop worrying, the day after tomorrow we will set foot on the islands and with the help of your Zone and the elven sorcery we will reach my motherland within an hour."
Rion nodded, and a weak groan reached his ears as Dora woke up from her slumber.
Just as she woke up, her hand instantly shot towards Rion’s hand as she mumbled without even looking at him, "Rion..."
"Yeah?" He responded while forcing a smile.
She turned her face toward him and said with a smile, "It doesn’t hurt that much..."
"Is that so...?" He asked with dark eyes.
He wanted to believe her... by doing that, he could rest his mind, but seeing that she had gone so pale that even her veins were visible, Rion couldn’t believe her...
He knew she was hurt, and the only reason she had said the opposite was not to make him worried.
Forcing his lips to curl up, he inched closer to her and mumbled, "You are feeling better, yeah?"
"Mhm..." she nodded. "I am."
’No, you are not.’ He knew her condition well.
He looked at Zaelyane and Yuura and stated with a wide smile that didn’t reach his saddened eyes, "See, I had told you, my Dora would be fine before you know it."
Zaelyane looked at the two, her lips curved, and she said, "Yeah, I apologise for not believing you."
"I told you my liege is never wrong," Yuura interjected with a smug look.
All of them burst into laughter, and Dora shifted closer to him.
He brushed her hair, and she said, "I always wanted to see the world beyond the mountains."
"I know." Rion knew it well; it was a dream both of them shared with one another after all.
A flimsy, broken chuckle escaped her dry lips, and she added, "But now that I am here, I want to return to the tribe... do you think I am being ungrateful after everything you have done for me?"
A genuine smile appeared on his face, he shook his head and answered, "No, you aren’t being ungrateful. You simply miss the tribe just like how I do... I also want to go back but I won’t return until I have gained enough to elevate our tribe."
"You still want to turn the tribe into a kingdom...?"
"It’s not a want, it’s a need."
