Tribal Sign-In: Immortal At The Start-Chapter 203: Teases and Cries
For the next few hours, Rion continued to take care of Dora.
During this time, he told her about the elves, the journey they would be making after three weeks and about the ether.
Dora listened while latching onto his arm like a koala, and because Rion found her act rather cute and heartwarming, he didn’t complain — instead, he patted her back and rested a few kisses on her cheeks, arms and neck.
Each kiss caused a giggle to escape from her lips, and upon hearing them, he could finally rest his troubled mind.
While they were talking, the sun neared the horizon, and just as it was about to dip, the wooden door creaked open, and Zaelyane stepped inside with her usual flat expression.
Dora instantly tried to push herself away from Rion, not wanting his image as the high commander to be sullied because of her, but Rion pulled her back and moved his arm under her tunic, rubbing her slightly muscular abdomen with a calm smile.
"It’s fine," he said gently.
Dora nodded, her cheeks reddening, and her gaze shifted to the doctor.
Zaelyane ignored both of them and just stared at the broken armrest of her second chair with a confused expression.
Guessing her thoughts, Rion answered without turning his head towards her, "Sorry, I got a bit heated."
Zaelyane’s gaze shifted towards his hand that was rubbing Dora’s abdomen, and she commented, "That I can see."
A chuckle escaped him, and for the first time in her life, Dora felt embarrassed by such a showcase.
Usually, she didn’t care if Rion wanted to show affection before others, but for some reason, before Zaelyane, she was feeling embarrassed.
She hid her head into his arms and tried to just completely forget about Zaelyane and the place where she was.
Zaelyane, on the other hand, was now completely interested in Dora. After taking a step towards her, she stated, "I have to check her current condition."
Dora looked at Rion from the slight gap between her head and his arms, and Rion responded, "Sure."
Zaelyane quickly walked over to Dora, and with a snap of her fingers, a bright green flame appeared on her fingertips.
Dora finally came out of hiding and looked at Zaelyane just in time to see her place her flaming index finger on her forehead.
Just as she did so, a soothing feeling washed over her, and all of her senses became extremely sharp.
Her eyesight, her hearing and above all, touch became extremely sharp, and Rion’s gentle rubs sent a tremor across her body.
Her lips snapped open, and the sound escaped before she could stop it. "Angh~"
Rion instantly froze at Dora’s rather unexpected moan, and Zaelyane raised an eyebrow, though, as she knew such a thing could happen, she immediately forgot about it and focused on examining Dora.
Dora’s embarrassment reached the sky. Her face didn’t look any different from a tomato, and seeing the wide, gleeful smile stretching across Rion’s face, she just closed her eyes and mumbled, "Can you please do this faster...?"
A mischievous thought appeared in Rion’s mind. Lowering his head, he whispered in Dora’s ear, "You sure you don’t want it slow?"
She carefully decided to ignore his words; however, they had caused the corners of her lips to arch upwards.
As the examination continued, Zaelyane frowned multiple times, and each time, his expression darkened.
After about ten minutes, Zaelyane moved her finger away from Dora’s forehead.
Dora opened her eyes, and Zaelyane stared into her eyes for a few moments before she stepped away from her and walked over to her usual chair.
Seeing her silence, Dora gulped in worry, and Rion was already readying himself for the bad news.
The silence stretched for a few more minutes, and Rion broke it with his question, "How is she?"
Zaelyane, who had already taken out and filled her smoke pipe with dried intoxicating herbs, lit the far end of the pipe and said, "For some reason which I believe to be the curse of the prophecy, her life essence is weaker when she is awake and because of that..."
She pointed her smoking pipe at the purple upside-down teardrop, and Rion added, "The sorcery symbol is much more unstable and is using more aura to keep itself stable, making Dora effectively unable to use her aura."
Dora’s face went pale at the revelation, lowering her head, she mumbled in a trembling voice, "H-H-How is t-that possible...?!"
Rion bit his lower lip, his hands caressed her body, and he mumbled, "Calm down, Dora."
Dora turned her head towards him and sobbed, "R-Rion... M-My A-Aura..."
Rion stood up from his chair, pulled her into a tight hug and whispered in her ear, "It’s fine, everything would be fine."
"Sniff...sniff..." Tears streamed down her face, her arms tightened around him, and she buried her face into his chest.
Zaelyane watched them with a flat expression. Taking a puff, she said, "I recommend you take sleeping medicine to further your lifespan."
Smoke seeped out of her lips and drifted around in the hut.
Rion’s gaze shifted towards Zaelyane, Dora didn’t answer and Rion stated in Zaelyane’s head, <Wouldn’t it be better for her to stay here?>
<Nope. We still don’t know if my people have the cure for her curse,> Zaelyane responded with a shake of her head.
Rion nodded in understanding but this wasn’t a case that could be solved with pure logic. <Do you think she can travel to the elven forest in this state?>
Zaelyane exhaled the smoke and answered while staring at Rion’s chest, more specifically, his heart. <Try stabilising her condition with your aura.>
Rion slowly moved his gaze towards Dora, who was clinging to him with all of her might, and he whispered with a forced smile, "I don’t think it would be the right time to have a child."
Dora’s arms tightened even further, if Rion wasn’t as strong as he was, he probably would’ve been lying on the ground asking for breath.
Rion softly lay her on the bed and placed his hands on her chest.
Dora’s eyes widened instantly, her lips parted to question, but Rion insisted, "Trust me, this is to help you."
