Trials of the Abyss-Chapter 985: A Storm of Dao Sources
The smile on Pang Lin's face had long since faded, replaced by a worried frown as the silver canopy continued to drive back the bizarre mist. This battle bore considerable weight to her. She had poured everything into her plans. It was only natural for her to regard it with the utmost seriousness. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
"Brother," she said, her shadowed gaze fixed on the battlefield high above. "That storm of ice shards is not as simple as you imagine. I sense the auras of many Dao Sources within it.
"The supreme will of the starry skies has devoured and assimilated numerous Dao Sources across the ages. Each one advanced its evolution further. That storm can annihilate everything within sight. Be careful!"
"I feel it too," Pang Jian replied softly.
The corruption of the supreme will within the multicolored veils surrounding the Divine Personas of the four Fey Gods grew ever weaker.
It seemed the will of the starry skies had focused its attention on Bai Zi. Even a transcendent existence could not grasp all fronts and be everywhere at once.
"Father!" Pang Ling cried out in alarm, freed from her frozen state and retreating fearfully into the canopy of the World Tree. "The storm devouring the stars can easily destroy the Divine Court of Thunder and crush me! Even my true body can't protect me. That storm can grind my very being to dust!"
The storm of ice shards was akin to the onset of an apocalypse for any starry region. Life, stars, and worlds would be reduced to dust and ash. Not even the Gods would be spared!
Two of the moons in the Primordial Chaos Starry Region were swept into the storm and ground to fragments, fueling the storm's raging force further.
It swallowed the vast energies of the celestial bodies, swelling madly at a rate that none could hope to halt.
This divine technique was annihilation made manifest—an obsession with extinction!
Satisfaction gleamed in Bai Zi's silver eyes. "Of the abysses you've shaped, only the Abyss, with the Dao Source of Metal within it, can withstand this storm."
The supreme will aimed to hurl the storm straight into the bizarre mist!
The Nether Abyss, Thunder Abyss, Shadow Abyss, Celestial Abyss, Demon Abyss, Ghost Abyss, and Fire Abyss would see their barriers and boundary walls collapse upon contact with that storm. Every living being within them would be annihilated in a single breath.
The storm of ice shards drifted across the starry region, sweeping three stars and the final moon into its grasp. The stars and moon exploded within the storm like fireworks.
"The supreme will of the starry skies can display such apocalyptic might even through Bai Zi's Sovereign body..." muttered the Duke of Thunder, having transformed into his human form in the Thunder Pool.
He stared into the starry region above, where light and darkness clashed, and worlds formed and collapsed in endless succession. The God King of Fate remained as steady as Mount Tai in the chaos[1].
If the supreme will of the starry skies descended into Yi Hao instead of Bai Zi, what magnitude of heavenly might could it unleash? the Duke of Thunder wondered. Could it erase whole swathes of the starry skies with a single gesture? A casual strike would surely destroy the abysses within the bizarre mist, reducing their inhabitants to ash in an instant.
There seemed to be no hope of victory.
The Duke of Thunder wore a despairing expression, his eyes steeped with helplessness. No matter how hard Pang Jian struggled, it seemed impossible to overturn this transcendent existence.
At the same time, Pang Jian's physical body, long freed from its frozen state, watched as the storm of ice shards harvested the celestial bodies, swelling madly in preparation.
"Bai Zi!" he roared.
Pang Jian's physical body ignored the Divine Court of Thunder, the Duke of Thunder, and Pang Ling, instead plunging swiftly toward the bizarre mist below.
The sky-shrouding World God Pendant appeared in his hand. With a twist of his will, it condensed into a colossal black-gold blade, which he swung down toward Bai Zi.
Boundless divine power poured into the giant blade. It seemed capable of slashing through the heavens themselves. Its edge blazed with arcs of Dao-infused lightning and was empowered by the Dao Source of Metal.
The fabric of space split open!
Beams of light shot outward from the fissures, scattering like sparks into the turbulent starry region. The Primordial Chaos Starry Region was once again torn asunder.
Vague incantations spilled from Bai Zi's lips.
Pang Jian's Divine Persona glowed as a foreign force shackled him.
The restraint upon his Divine Persona disrupted the circulation of his divine power, rendering the Heavenly Daos resonating within the giant blade ineffective.
Pang Jian was left momentarily dazed.
With desperate effort, he drew upon the emotions of the inhabitants of the bizarre mist, maintaining resonance with his Immortal Divine Soul to forcefully break free of that restraint.
The corruption of the supreme will of the starry skies was successfully purged. However, even that fleeting invasion was enough to disrupt his momentum.
"Freeze!" Bai Zi cried.
The profound truth of deathly stillness was veiled within that single word.
Pang Jian's physical body, already riddled with holes from ice lances, became flooded with a ghostly gray-white radiance. Death, exhaustion, decay, weakness, corrosion, poison—every foul and sinister essence in existence seemed to seep into him through that gray-white radiance. It invaded his flesh and blood, saturating his dantian and permeating his five viscera.
Unlike his Immortal Divine Soul, Pang Jian's physical body was made of flesh, blood, and bone. He simply could not withstand this level of corruption.
This virulent poison eroded his vitality, meridians, and flesh.
Pang Jian's towering physical body shrank at a speed visible to the naked eye. The divine powers within him drained away in a mad torrent.
"So long as you bear a Divine Persona, I can invade and bend you at will. I can decide whether you live or die," the supreme will of the starry skies said through Bai Zi.
1. Mount Tai (泰山) is one of the most famous mountains in China and appears often in classical Chinese writings. In literature, it typically represents greatness, respect, authority, strength, stability, and high ambition. Writers, poets, and philosophers use Mount Tai as a symbol of importance, power, and significance. For example, Du Fu referenced it in a poem to express lofty aspirations, and Confucian texts mention it to describe wisdom and a broad vision. ☜
