Chapter 101: Chapter 100 Blue Dot

Alka explored and took the oil lamp, which flickered with a blue outline, down from the wall.

He asked, "This thing is a Magic Item, right?"

Upon hearing Alka’s question, Chadite took the oil lamp from his hand and examined it carefully.

After checking it, she nodded and then looked at Alka with a strange expression, saying, "You’re quite perceptive. This is indeed a Magic Item, but it’s very old and hasn’t been well maintained, so its protective functions are considerably compromised."

"Besides, it’s just a Magic Item for convenience in daily life."

After saying that, Chadite infused Magic Power into the oil lamp.

The oil lamp’s shade immediately lit up with a white flame. It was extremely bright yet very gentle.

It then gently floated in the air. Chadite took two steps to the side, and the oil lamp hovered beside her, illuminating her surroundings.

"Is that all it does?" Alka couldn’t help but ask, watching Chadite’s demonstration.

"Yes," Chadite nodded.

Alka was visibly dejected. He’d thought it was something incredible, but it turned out to be just this. If this thing were worth even one Golden Sail, I’d twist my head off and use it as a football!

Seeing Alka’s expression, Chadite smiled and patted the oil lamp beside her. "No need to be discouraged. Although this thing isn’t very useful, it’s still a Magic Item. If Gami gives it a simple repair, it should be worth at least two Golden Sails."

...That’s not bad, Alka conceded.

Then, the two of them let the Magic oil lamp float along as they continued forward.

As Alka walked, he took the oil lamp and infused his own Magic Power into it.

It turned out to be much better than he’d initially thought.

Just by infusing Magic Power, he didn’t need to control it much; the oil lamp would follow his simple thoughts, moving to where Alka wanted to illuminate.

However, it only worked within a four to five-meter radius around him; any further and it wouldn’t respond.

It was somewhat intelligent and provided a decent user experience.

As he walked, Alka suddenly crouched down and picked up an object from a patch of grass.

It was an object emitting a white light.

It appeared to be a decorative piece that had fallen from somewhere: a small, palm-sized octopus statue made of pure gold, with crimson Gemstone eyes.

If it hadn’t been for its outline, Alka would have completely overlooked it hidden in the grass.

Seeing the item glow in Alka’s hand after he wiped it, Chadite’s expression grew increasingly strange.

She had watched Alka walk right over, crouch down, and pick the thing up from the grass.

Yet she hadn’t even considered that something might be there. It felt very surreal.

It was as if Alka could find valuable things as effortlessly as drinking water or eating a meal.

She couldn’t help but tease, "Could you be some kind of treasure-hunting rat?"

For various reasons in this world, the profession of Treasure Hunter was somewhat common. Nobles often referred to Treasure Hunters with derogatory terms like ’rats.’ Treasure Hunters sometimes used this term in self-deprecation, and over time, ’treasure-hunting rat’ became a way to describe someone very skilled at finding treasure.

Hearing Chadite’s teasing, Alka turned his head to look at her.

He made an exaggerated, sniffing gesture.

"So you’ve found me out! Be careful, or I’ll steal your treasures."

"Hahaha..."

Chadite couldn’t help but laugh. After composing herself, she took the small octopus sculpture from Alka’s hand.

She began examining it under the white light as they walked.

"It seems to be some kind of custom-made decoration. Apart from the expensive materials, it holds no great value and isn’t a masterpiece of any kind."

After pondering for a moment, she assessed, "Its value is probably similar to the oil lamp, mainly due to its materials."

That’s not bad, Alka thought. He took back the small sculpture and tucked it into his ring.

Along the way, there were still many white points of light visible beneath the completely collapsed ruins.

As they approached the position of another blue point, Alka looked up.

A faint light emanated from there, but it wasn’t the blue outline Alka was looking for.

Instead, it was a pale, eerie green glow. Seeing this color made Alka frown.

The skeletons’ skulls wouldn’t have such a bright Soul Fire, Alka mused. This color reminded him of the Evil Spirit they had encountered on the previous island.

He couldn’t help but stop and pull the Locking Device from its holster on his thigh. Seeing Alka’s actions, Chadite, who was walking behind him, immediately clenched her fists.

"That light looks like something an Evil Spirit would emit," Chadite warned. "Be careful; it can turn invisible and attack."

"Don’t worry, I’m prepared." As she spoke, Chadite opened her palm, and two white cloth strips materialized there.

The cloth strips were inscribed with faint golden patterns, which Chadite then wrapped around her fists.

As a faint magical glow flowed into them, the golden patterns on the cloth strips began to emit a soft golden light.

Chadite flexed her fists and gave Alka a confident look.

This blue dot indicated a Difficulty of One Spiral, likely referring to the Evil Spirit in front of them. It was within a range they could both handle.

Alka raised the Locking Device. The influx of Magic Power made the bronze metal at the back of the gun shimmer with blue patterns. Then, with a flick of his left wrist, a Red Card appeared in his palm.

Pinching it between his index and middle fingers, he flicked it forward sharply.

The Red Card traced a beautiful arc, flying diagonally through a hole in the collapsed structure and landing precisely on the wall that glowed with green light.

He snapped his fingers.

"BANG!"

A burst of flames erupted, forming two pillars of fire.

The Red Card Alka had thrown wasn’t a finished product but rather one of his practice failures. However, he had kept some of the better-quality rejects.

Although it was a reject, being one of the best among them, it could still inflict considerable damage.

With the eruption of flames, a hoarse roar echoed from within; the piercing screech and agony in the sound were unmistakably clear.

A green Spiritual Body shot out of the hole at great speed, trailing a green streak behind it.

The appearance of this Evil Spirit suggested it might have been a humanoid creature in its former life, but its face was now indistinct.

Its outstretched hands ended in sharp claws, and it had no legs, only tattered clothes that dragged behind it.

Unlike the previous one Alka had encountered, this Evil Spirit didn’t hide its form; it was plainly visible.

Seeing its state, Alka didn’t even need Lucilia’s location prompt and pulled the trigger.

A spray of pellets shot out from one of the barrels.

Each pellet was wreathed in pure white Holy Flame.

"AAAARGH!"

The painful screech tore through the air again as the green Spiritual Body was riddled with countless holes.

The pain momentarily rooted it to the spot. Chadite launched herself forward with a kick, silver light engulfing her leg. Her speed was incredible, like a silver comet.

Her right hand drew back. As she reached the Spiritual Body, the golden patterns on the hand wraps glowed even more intensely. She punched hard.

It felt as if her fist passed through empty air, yet it dealt severe damage to the Evil Spirit.

The punch was like striking a cloud of mist, causing more than half of the Evil Spirit’s body to disperse into green smoke.

Its remaining body was still riddled with pellet holes when her left fist swung up from below.

It swept the rest of its form into green smoke, which vanished into the darkness.

Watching the Evil Spirit disappear, Chadite dusted off her hands.

She turned her head towards Alka and raised an eyebrow expectantly.

Seeing this, Alka smiled and gave her a thumbs-up.

"Those two punches were really cool."

He said this as he walked over, looking at the building from which the Evil Spirit had rushed out. The fire from the Red Card’s explosion had ignited something inside.

Flames were now flickering out from within.

Alka hurriedly ran towards the building, calling back to Chadite, "That thing was an Evil Spirit! There might be something valuable stored where it was."

Chadite quickly followed. They both leaped directly into the hole left by the collapsed upper section of the wall.

Inside, the flames were consuming some dried plant branches and roots.

In a corner, illuminated by the firelight, they both spotted a skeleton.

The skeleton appeared to have been sitting on something before death, and had died in a reclining position.

"Could this be the physical remains of that Evil Spirit?" Chadite couldn’t help but ask.

Alka nodded. "It’s very possible."

Then he picked up a small twig from nearby and walked over to poke at the remains.

The clothes on the skeleton had long since rotted away. A casual poke revealed bones, completely blackened and yellowed, mixed with the soil.

As Alka poked around, he noticed a blue outline on the side of its femur.

He dug fiercely with the stick and pried the object out.

He took it in his hand.

The blue outline vanished.

Alka patted off the dirt and grime, roughly revealing the object’s appearance.

It looked like a pair of peculiarly designed shears; the blades were thick and wide, while the handles were disproportionately short.

Alka cleaned it a bit so it could be operated, then tried snipping it in his hand.

Then he saw a very conspicuous Spell engraved on one of the blades, carved directly onto the metal.

This indicated that the craftsmanship of this Magic Item wasn’t very good. Moreover, Alka recognized the Spell.

[Sharp]. It’s a Spell specifically used for engraving on objects. It’s usually engraved on blades and the edges of various weapons to enhance their sharpness.

Even without Chadite’s appraisal, Alka knew these shears were just a bit sharper than normal.

They could probably cut through many things ordinary shears wouldn’t even dream of tackling.

"A very simple Magic Item, not even worth one Golden Sail," Chadite commented, looking at the shears.
