Chapter 878: Chapter 876: Taking the Initiative to Strike Up a Conversation? (Second Update)

Director Sun threw the ball to Si Han. She wasn’t the type to enjoy causing trouble or forcing others, so naturally, she didn’t say anything and went straight to find Fang Kai.

She knew Director Sun fairly well and understood how to win his favor. Moreover, Director Sun treated her exceptionally well; even if she didn’t offer him any bribes and merely requested leave directly, he would certainly grant it without refusal.

As for Fang Kai, not only did she not know him well, she hardly knew him at all.

Therefore, being sent to find Fang Kai made her quite anxious. But her anxiety wasn’t enough to overcome her desire to accompany her brother on a relaxing vacation. Seeing Fang Kai and his assistant sitting in a corner not far away, smoking and chatting idly, Si Han weighed the box of milk she took from the car in her hand, gritted her teeth, and walked over.

"Brother Kai..."

Fang Kai had his back turned to her. Upon hearing her call, he slightly turned his head, his narrowed, slanted eyes flashing with a hint of surprise, then gave her a faint glance, "Hmm?"

Si Han felt a bit embarrassed. If her memory served her right, when she first joined the crew, Fang Kai, though not particularly warm towards her, wasn’t as indifferent as he had become recently. His indifference was so pronounced that even someone as careless as her noticed he was deliberately distancing himself. He no longer acted with her, and even avoided sitting together during meals whenever possible.

Si Han couldn’t recall anything she might have done to offend him, nor did she have the courage to seek clarification from him. Observing that his attitude was similar towards others in the crew, she had no choice but to endure his neglect, ultimately growing accustomed to his off-camera indifference.

However, she had something to ask of him now and had to muster courage. Facing his slightly squinted eyes, she steeled her nerves and handed him the milk box, "Here, have a drink!"

Fang Kai glanced down at the milk in her hand with barely a hint of amusement crossing his eyes, but he managed to conceal it before Si Han could notice. He raised his eyelids, his gaze returning to indifference. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶

"I’m not a kid; I don’t like milk." His tone was full of mockery.

Si Han’s smile froze on her lips. She awkwardly withdrew the milk, "Don’t like it, huh..."

Even though she’d been rebuffed, her desire to spend time unwinding with her brother couldn’t be quelled. She lowered her gaze, tidied her embarrassed emotions, then looked up at him again, "So what do you like to drink, or what do you like to eat? I’ll treat you tomorrow!"

Fang Kai widened his eyes slightly in surprise. He hadn’t expected her to suddenly take such bold initiative in trying to make peace. He turned to face her entirely, the corners of his mouth lifting in a smile filled with interest.

"Are you planning something? Or are you asking me out for a meal?"

Despite coming from a poor background, Fang Kai had spent the past few years surrounded by accolades and admirers. He was no stranger to people, male or female, making advances towards him.

Thus, he was quite confident in his own charm. He naturally categorized Si Han into the group actively showing interest in him.

The assistant sitting beside him had been with Fang Kai for several years and was familiar with his temperament. Hearing Fang Kai’s question, he wisely stood up, nodded to Si Han, and, on his way out, took Fang Kai’s cigarette away.

"No, that’s not it..." Si Han instinctively denied Fang Kai’s assumption, but as soon as she spoke, she noticed Fang Kai’s slightly furrowed brow and realized she seemed insincere. Surely, it wasn’t too much to ask someone to coordinate their schedule with her while not offering dinner in return.

Upon realizing her mistake, Si Han quickly amended, "What do you like to eat, Brother Kai? I’ll book a table."

Fang Kai noticed every bit of her embarrassment and awkwardness, maintaining a calm demeanor while feeling a restless itch inside.

Since realizing his unusual interest in her, Fang Kai had been forcing himself to remain distant from her for some time.

At twenty-four years old, he was well past the stage of naïve infatuations and fully understood when his heart was increasingly unruly.

Yet, Si Han wasn’t one of those women in the industry who were accustomed to casual relationships, nor was she the type for spontaneous one-night stands. She came from a prominent background, and her personality was somewhat reserved, making her someone he couldn’t provoke nor found any interest in troubling.

Therefore, although he knew he was interested in her, he had immediately stifled his budding interest.

However, that kind of suppression only worked when one was aware that there would be no reciprocation or outcome. Now, Si Han had extended an olive branch, shaking his rationality for the first time.

"I can have whatever I want?" Fang Kai looked at her with a playful interest.

Si Han was unaware of Fang Kai’s internal struggle during this brief moment and nodded, "Of course, Brother Kai, just tell me what you want to eat, don’t be shy."

Si Han said this without much significance, knowing that being a university student meant everyone assumed she wasn’t financially well-off. She was merely assuring Fang Kai that she could afford whatever expensive dinner he wished.

But in Fang Kai’s ears, it sounded like a blatant attempt to please and accommodate him.

Fang Kai, in a great mood, was just about to explore dinner plans with her when he heard Director Sun calling him loudly. He quickly stood up and briskly informed Si Han, "Alright, let me think about it and I’ll tell you later!"

With that, before Si Han could react, he was gone in an instant.

Si Han reasoned that since she had a request, she should certainly wait for Fang Kai’s decision and didn’t delve into his unusually fervent gaze compared to usual.

Returning to her spot, she took out the script for a study when Tian Fang emerged from nowhere, tapped her shoulder, "What were you talking about with Fang Kai? You both seemed pretty engaged."

Though Fang Kai had deliberately distanced himself from Si Han for some time, Tian Fang was aware but didn’t give it much thought.

Fang Kai wasn’t criticizing Si Han during filming, and their scenes together proceeded smoothly. Their off-camera estrangement was simply a matter of them remaining strangers, and Si Han certainly didn’t need to curry favor with Fang Kai given her background.

So, it surprised her to see Si Han standing with Fang Kai earlier. She wondered how this usually shy young girl managed to interact with someone like Fang Kai, who exuded strong masculine hormones.

Truly surprising!

Si Han had no clue about Tian Fang’s inner musings. She looked at her briefly and handed Tian Fang the milk that Fang Kai had rejected.
