Chapter 847: Chapter 845: Everything Is Fake (Part 2)

"You probably don’t know, right? Your last name isn’t Ji; everything you have now is a lie!"

Nuonuo was shocked. The fact that she wasn’t a child of the Ji Family was told to her by Le Tong. After that, only Da Bao had mentioned it in front of her, and no one else brought it up.

Of course, the people from the Ji Family and the Yang Family were aware of it, but no one ever made an issue out of it. Everyone calmly and naturally accepted and acknowledged her and Da Bao’s relationship.

To outsiders, this man with an extremely unfriendly attitude was the first person to mercilessly reveal this truth right in front of Nuonuo!

Nuonuo turned her head, wanting to ask the man, "Who are you?" But the man had already stood up and walked away, not even giving her a second glance, striding out without a shred of reluctance.

Nuonuo, nerves taut, watched his silhouette disappear at the door. The facade of calm she’d been forcing herself to maintain finally broke down as she slumped over the desk, drenched in sweat on her back and hands.

Normally very attentive, she couldn’t hear the teacher’s voice on the podium; her ears replayed that man’s chilling laughter and his words, "Everything is a lie!"

She lay on the desk, not rushing to her family for help as she usually did, trying instead to calm herself and analyze the bizarre man and his unpredictable actions.

She didn’t know who the man was, nor his purpose for coming here, or the meaning behind his few words.

Nuonuo was in a daze the entire afternoon. Even when Da Bao came to pick her up, she remained distracted. Da Bao, who had watched her grow up, noticed her unusual demeanor with just a glance.

"Nuonuo, are you feeling unwell?"

This being school, crowded with people, Da Bao dared not do anything drastic; he just frowned and placed the back of his hand on her forehead.

"No! I’m fine!" Nuonuo shook her head in denial, lifting his hand off of her.

But despite her denial, her slightly pale face and worried eyes told Da Bao she was not fine at all.

Da Bao didn’t point it out immediately. He opened the car door and let her in first. As the car started, he didn’t rush her but allowed her to remain silent, pressing her lips tightly while staring straight ahead.

If she were truly as fine as she claimed, then Da Bao must be blind, not stupid!

He just wanted to give her enough time to sort things out and decide how to open up to him.

Da Bao patiently waited the whole ride; until they reached the gate, Nuonuo hadn’t said a word.

Initially, Da Bao thought she might have been unhappy due to some ridicule or exclusion at school, but now he sensed things might be more complicated than he had assumed.

He parked the car but didn’t open the door. When Nuonuo tried and failed to open the door and looked at him in confusion, he leaned over, gently kissed her lips, and softly rubbing her head, said,

"Let’s talk!"

Nuonuo shivered slightly, lifting her lids, a trace of uncontrollable panic flickering in her dark eyes. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

"What’s wrong?" Da Bao gently inquired.

Nuonuo shook her head. She had thought all afternoon but still hadn’t figured out how to bring up the man and his words with her family.

In fact, she wished she could find a way to solve this herself, considering she was already eighteen and couldn’t rely on her parents and brother for everything.

Seeing her silent, Da Bao could only rule things out one by one.

"Were you bullied by seniors at school?"

"No!" Nuonuo answered decisively.

"Were you isolated or tattled on by classmates?" Da Bao continued.

"No!" Nuonuo shook her head.

She wasn’t as delicate or incapable as her brother thought.

Even if such things happened, she wouldn’t bring them home to her parents and brother. She wasn’t a child anymore; she’d long learned to handle such minor interpersonal conflicts.

"Was it that TV reporter bothering you again?" Da Bao’s brow furrowed slightly at the mention of the reporter.

"No, I’ve only met him once."

"Did you encounter any difficulties with your studies?" Da Bao persistently asked each question.

Finally, Nuonuo realized she had to speak up if she wanted to get out of the car.

"Brother, I encountered a strange person during class today!"

Da Bao’s heart tightened, "Hmm?! A strange person?"

Nuonuo nodded, her previously scattered look finally regaining focus.

"Yes, I was sitting in the last row, and there was basically no one in the back seat. When he came in, he called me with questioning intonation, clearly wanting to confirm my identity."

Nuonuo tried to appear calm and rational. Even if the matter needed the strength of her brother and parents to resolve, she needed to show them that if she truly encountered such people or sudden events, she could calmly face them and rationally think through a solution.

Da Bao’s heart hung in suspense, his dark eyes deep with uncertainty, but seeing Nuonuo so composed, he suppressed his own anxiety, encouraging her with a calm tone to continue.

"Mm, what happened next?"

"Then I pretended he had the wrong person and ignored him. He sat a few seats away from me, motionless. I pretended to concentrate on the class. Suddenly, he laughed eerily and said, ’You probably don’t know, your last name isn’t Ji; everything you have now is a lie!’"

Now Da Bao’s heart was up in the clouds, anxiously asking, "Did he give you any trouble afterward?"

"No, he left after saying that. I thought about it all afternoon, but I couldn’t remember who he is."

Nuonuo actually knew very few people. Although people outside knew the Ji Family had three children, the second, Ji Sihan, rarely appeared at normal social gatherings. Therefore, Nuonuo, having thought it over the entire afternoon, was almost certain that she had never seen this man before.

Da Bao instinctively felt the matter wasn’t simple, but he reassured Nuonuo verbally.

"It’s okay. Let’s go home. You don’t need to worry about it; Dad and Mom and I will handle it."

When Nuonuo spoke of the man, Da Bao’s first thought was whether he could be the same man who had threatened Grandpa and Dad about Nuonuo’s background years ago.

However, these were just his speculations, and everything required evidence.

Nuonuo got out of the car with him, hand in hand, as they returned home.

Le Tong hadn’t worked late today and had come home early to prepare dinner. Hearing the sound of their arrival, she came out with a smile, which momentarily faded upon seeing her son’s and daughter’s grave expressions.
