Treasure Hunt: Tycoon's Priceless Runaway Wife-Chapter 838 - 836: Without Her, It Feels Unusual (Second Update)
That night, everyone played until past two in the morning, thoroughly enjoying themselves. For safety, Da Bao stayed in a room reserved by Da Bao to rest.
Early the next morning, the group happily went for breakfast tea before going their separate ways.
Nuonuo and Da Bao had taken the day off in advance, so when leaving the hotel, Da Bao asked, "Where do you want to go?"
Little Treasure and his friends had gone out, leaving only Da Bao and Nuonuo in the car, obviously directing the question to Nuonuo.
Nuonuo usually has a very healthy lifestyle, never sleeping later than midnight. However, last night she didn’t lie down until past three, and today she was woken up early by Little Treasure’s call, having slept only a little over two hours, she was both sleepy and had a headache.
"Can we go home? I’m so sleepy!" Nuonuo said, her eyes slightly open, looking at Da Bao with sleepy eyes.
Since Nuonuo started working as a student worker at the Ji Family, she has been busy with Da Bao, hardly relaxing since finishing her college entrance exams.
Originally, Da Bao planned to accompany this girl to eat, play, and shop crazily the whole day. Wherever she wanted to go or whatever she wanted, he wouldn’t say no.
Unexpectedly, at this moment, Nuonuo felt that the bed’s allure was the greatest and most irresistible.
"Alright then..."
It was indeed a pity to spend a rare vacation day sleeping, but seeing the little girl with her eyes barely open, looking pitiful, Da Bao had no choice.
Nuonuo slept all the way in the car, and even when it stopped at the house’s door, she was still sleeping soundly with her head tilted.
Da Bao looked at her and smiled helplessly, got out of the car, and without saying a word, directly carried her inside.
"Mmm..." In her sleep, Nuonuo dreamt her brother was holding her, humming a lullaby, and she wrapped her arms around her brother’s neck, nuzzling into the warm embrace, continuing her sweet slumber.
When she finally woke up, it was pitch dark around her.
Nuonuo broke out in a cold sweat, sitting up abruptly, feeling inexplicably anxious in the darkness.
She could clearly hear her own heartbeat pounding in the darkness, her mind completely blank.
Where is this?
Nuonuo frantically reached for the edge of the bed and got down, her mind still in a daze, unable to recall anything.
A "click" sounded like the door lock being turned opened.
"Who is it?" Nuonuo asked in a trembling voice in the darkness.
"Nuonuo?"
A deep, pleasant voice came from the door, very familiar, filled with worry. Nuonuo frowned slightly, and before she could respond, a "pop" was heard, and the room was immediately flooded with light.
Standing at the door, Da Bao immediately saw Nuonuo standing barefoot in front of the bed, her face filled with panic.
"Brother?"
"Nuonuo, what’s wrong? Still not fully awake?"
Da Bao furrowed his brows and ran over, pulling her close, pressing his forehead against hers.
Only then did Nuonuo’s mind gradually clear a bit.
"Didn’t we just leave the hotel? How come I’m in bed?"
Nuonuo’s memory finally connected with the pre-sleep images.
"Silly, you were still sleeping when we got home, so I carried you to bed. You slept like a log, wouldn’t even know if you were sold!"
Though Da Bao teased her, he gently placed a palm on her forehead to confirm her temperature was normal, finally relaxing a bit.
Nuonuo had slept the whole day but felt weak and drained, leaning against Da Bao. "Getting sold wouldn’t bring much money either!"
Then she seemed to think of something, glanced around the room, and uncertainly asked: "Is it night now?"
"Yeah, you’ve slept the whole day! Can’t imagine how tired you must’ve been during this period!"
Da Bao affectionately kissed her forehead, realizing perhaps allowing her to work as a student worker at the Ji Family was a mistake!
Detecting unusual vibes from Da Bao’s words, Nuonuo quickly pushed him away, nervously clarifying.
"Brother, I’m not tired! Really, I’m not lying. Sleeping all day wasn’t because of exhaustion but because I know I’ve finally been admitted to R University. After finally laying down the years of heavy burden, I relaxed completely, having no more pressure, so I slept the entire day."
Nuonuo’s explanation did little to ease Da Bao’s concern; if anything, it only deepened it.
He always knew that growing up in the Ji Family meant Nuonuo faced much more pressure compared to ordinary children.
Of course, if she were completely without ambition, she could have lived a leisurely life in the Ji Family.
But the problem is, she is very ambitious and holds herself to a high standard. This means living in the shadows and comparisons with him and Little Treasure, making her future life quite strenuous.
"Girl, you’re still young, you should focus on studying. How about this, wait until you’re twenty to help out at the Ji Family, alright?"
Da Bao hoped that as both her brother and boyfriend, he could persuade the stubborn Nuonuo.
"I’m not that young! Didn’t you and Little Treasure start helping out at the company at thirteen or fourteen? Though I’m not as smart as you two, I can still handle some odd jobs."
Only then did Da Bao realize how insignificant his role as brother and boyfriend was in the face of her stubbornness.
Seeing Da Bao silent, Nuonuo grew a bit anxious, "Brother, do you and Sister Rong think I’m not capable?"
"Not at all, Miss Lei has praised you countless times in front of me." Da Bao didn’t want to undermine her accomplishments.
Deep down, Nuonuo had a sense of inferiority, and if he indiscriminately criticized her, it would only reinforce her inferiority complex and make her more unable to hold her head high.
And so, Nuonuo continued working as a student worker at the Ji Family until the end of August.
The proposal Da Bao was responsible for had been approved, and in September, he took a ten-day vacation to travel with Nuonuo for a few days. After taking a couple of days to relax at home, Nuonuo started school.
Just like Da Bao’s own experience, after reporting to college, Nuonuo was immediately informed she’d be sent for a half-month military training in a boot camp, which Da Bao had already prepared for and directly sent her there.
On his first day back at work at the Ji Family after vacation, Miss Lei brought him a steaming cup of tea in the morning.
"Good morning, General Manager!"
Da Bao suddenly lifted his head from a pile of files, looking strangely at Miss Lei.
"Why is it you?"
Miss Lei paused for a moment, then quickly realized and let out a laugh. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
"General Manager, you don’t still think I’m Si Han, do you?"
Miss Lei’s question reminded Da Bao that Si Han had gone to school and was probably marching to the officer’s commands in boot camp at this moment.
Waving Miss Lei off, Da Bao turned to look out the window.
Outside, the sun was shining brightly, a hot and beautiful day. He wondered if that girl could handle practicing in such heat.
He only knew that after enjoying the close "service" of a little assistant for over two months, he was suddenly very unaccustomed to her absence!
