Chapter 812: Chapter 810: The Feeling of Being Waited For Is Truly Wonderful (Part 1)

While Da Bao was handling business, Nuonuo walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, pulled back half of the curtain, and called home to say she was safe while taking in the view outside.

"Just arrived now?" On the other end of the phone was Le Tong, who had actually received a call from Xiao Li earlier that morning when Nuonuo was left at Da Bao’s dorm, but now she was pretending to play dumb and took the opportunity to tease her daughter.

Nuonuo, still a child, coughed awkwardly a couple of times to cover her embarrassment.

"No, I arrived a little after nine this morning, but I was busy making soup and cooking for my brother, and forgot to tell you all I was okay."

"Ah, children growing up don’t rely on their mothers anymore... Mommy understands..." Le Tong intentionally sounded pitiful, sighing deeply, making Nuonuo feel very guilty.

"Mommy, I was just worried my brother would be hungry..." The little girl’s voice was as small as a mosquito, lacking confidence.

"Oh right, you only worry about your brother being hungry and not about your daddy worrying himself sick!"

"Mommy..." Poor Nuonuo was about to cry.

"Alright, alright, Mommy was just teasing you. Uncle Xiao Li called at nine this morning to let me know you were okay. Mommy’s not upset, go play with your brother."

Simple as a little white rabbit in front of her family, Nuonuo finally relaxed and asked her mommy for some soup-making tips before hanging up the phone.

Turning around, she met Da Bao’s eyes filled with deep affection.

"Aren’t you working? Why are you staring at me?" Nuonuo glanced at him, displeased.

Da Bao blinked, smiling, "I’m keeping a close watch on my little white rabbit, so she doesn’t get bullied and not even know it."

In fact, from the moment Nuonuo walked to the window and dialed the phone, Da Bao had been instinctively listening in like a radar for her voice. So everything she said to her mommy didn’t escape his ears.

Nuonuo knew she wasn’t clever, but she trusted her mommy, "Mommy would never!"

Da Bao looked at his adorable sister and girlfriend, smiling without saying a word.

After the call, Nuonuo obediently sat in the chair next to Da Bao. Da Bao was rapidly typing away on his computer handling company matters, while Nuonuo earnestly scribbled and calculated with a pen, poking at the focused young man beside her with the pen cap whenever she hit a snag.

The young man would always lean over immediately, patiently and meticulously guiding her with different methods to solve the problems.

Known for claiming she wasn’t smart, Nuonuo managed to solve the problems quickly in just two or three minutes, following Da Bao’s guidance and thought process, surprising Da Bao, who was a teacher.

"Girl, I think you’re improving fast, really turning over a new leaf, no wonder you cracked the top ten in this test. It seems you’ve been working hard!"

Nuonuo humbly responded, "Brother, you’ve spent so much time helping me, and Guo Yuhang has been outlining for me recently. I focused intensely for two days on the key points he highlighted before the test, so I managed to do well this time."

Even though he knew the little girl wasn’t interested in Guo Yuhang, Da Bao couldn’t help but feel a bit jealous.

"He’s really nice to you!"

He said sourly, remembering the large bouquet of flowers the little girl brought to visit Guo Yuhang when he was sick at the start of the year.

"He’s nice to me only because you’ve helped him a lot!" Despite appearing naive and innocent like a little white rabbit with her family, Nuonuo was quite shrewd when it came to outsiders.

Da Bao laughed, ruffling her hair, "Hmm, not as silly as I thought!"

"You’re the silly one, your whole family is silly!" Nuonuo retorted without thinking, realizing afterwards that she had insulted herself with that statement.

Da Bao crossed his arms and watched her with a satisfied smile, as if to say, "See, you are a little silly."

Honestly, neither the name Guo Yuhang nor the person himself could affect their relationship much, and the topic quickly passed. They bantered a bit, then both naturally got back to their own work and studies.

The clacking of keyboard keys and the scratching of pen on paper echoed in the office. Occasionally, when the "click-clack" paused, it was because Da Bao was tilting his head, squinting at the pretty little girl diligently writing away. The more he looked, the softer his eyes became, and he couldn’t resist leaning over to steal a kiss on her cheek.

The little girl was not as blatant as Da Bao with such sneaky actions. After finishing her math homework, she began writing an essay. Several times, when her thoughts stalled while writing, she’d look up to see her handsome brother pursing his lips, focused intently on the screen, his long fingers typing briskly and powerfully on the keyboard, his thick, dark eyebrows slightly furrowed. That serious, focused look made her heart flutter.

They say a man absorbed in his work is the most charming, and Nuonuo was keenly experiencing that now.

Nuonuo worked on her assignments until after three, though she still had two subjects left, but her mind was set on making soup and cooking dinner for her brother. She packed up her books and notebooks, and went back to the dorm first to make soup.

Back in the office, Da Bao kept himself busy. Around five, he received a message from Nuonuo, "Brother, you can come up for dinner now." 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

At the time, Da Bao was in a meeting with several subordinates, discussing some important matters. After reading the message, he quickly replied, "Wait for me for half an hour, be good!" He then continued the meeting without distraction.

The subordinates had no idea Miss Ji was visiting, so after the meeting, they invited Da Bao to join them for dinner.

In the branch company, there were many young single male employees like Da Bao, who lived in the top-floor staff dorms, usually either eating the dorm manager’s cooking or dining out together. Normally unattached, Da Bao didn’t mind joining his colleagues, but today, he was anxious to head back.

"No, thanks. My sister is visiting, and she made dinner for me, so I won’t be joining you tonight!"

The young men were used to joking around, "In that case, maybe later we can all take Miss Ji out for some singing, have some fun?"

Da Bao repeatedly declined their kind offer, "No way, don’t set your sights on her, she’s only sixteen."

The colleagues chuckled and teased a bit more before wisely gathering up their files.

Da Bao checked the time; it was nearly seven. He hurried back to the dorm, opened the door, and was greeted by a room filled with soft lighting.

All along, when he returned here from work, he was greeted by darkness and silence.

But today, there was not only soft lighting filling the room, the air was rich with the aroma of rice and dishes, most importantly, there was the girl he loved most, waiting for his return.

This feeling of having someone waiting for you in a specific space was really wonderful!
