Treasure Hunt: Tycoon's Priceless Runaway Wife-Chapter 670 - 668 Firmly in the Pocket (Part 2)
"Si Han, your daddy is so handsome!"
"Si Han, your brother looks like your daddy."
"Si Han, your daddy is so good to you, I’m so envious..."
The band members gathered around Nuonuo in twos and threes, saying compliments that were either sincere or insincere.
Nuonuo took a glass of juice, biting on the straw and listening quietly without saying a word. It wasn’t that she was trying to act aloof, but because these words didn’t really mean anything, and she had no idea how to respond after thinking it over for a while.
Should she really arrogantly say, "Yeah, my daddy is handsome, and my brother is handsome too, you must be so envious!"
A few girls chirped and chattered for a while, yet the female protagonist surrounded by them remained in a detached, unaffected manner, and gradually, the liveliness subsided, leaving behind a few awkward, embarrassed laughs and an uncomfortable silence.
Nuonuo drank a lot of juice, went to the bathroom, and when she came back, she accidentally overheard someone behind the screen say, "Hmph, what’s the big deal, isn’t she just relying on her identity as Miss Ji to look down on others?"
"Yu Han, don’t be sour. If you had such a powerful dad and brother, you might be a thousand times more arrogant than she is."
Nuonuo was very grateful that she had firmly rejected the probing of the two senior sisters last night. Just thinking about those two girls hovering around Brother Dabao made her feel disgusted.
Ji Rui arrived on time at ten o’clock to pick up his precious daughter. Once she got in the car, he noticed that the usually talkative girl was silent the entire way, which made him a bit puzzled.
"Nuonuo, didn’t you have fun?"
Ji Rui patted his daughter’s head. Although he wasn’t very good at understanding kids’ psyches, he could still tell whether she was happy or not. Especially since Nuonuo was the type of girl who wore her feelings on her face, completely different from her introverted Brother Dabao.
Nuonuo indeed wasn’t very happy, having spent the entire night regretting having misjudged people. After being in the band for so long, she only realized today that the two senior sisters she admired were actually hypocrites who acted differently in front and behind people.
"Uh..." Nuonuo instinctively leaned against Ji Rui.
Even though Ji Rui didn’t spend as much time with her as Da Bao did, and she was somewhat afraid of him when he was stern, her instinct told her that daddy, like Brother Da Bao, mommy, and Little Treasure, was someone she could rely on without worry.
"Is someone bullying Nuonuo?"
As a father, Ji Rui didn’t often get the chance to ask this question, after all, Da Bao and Little Treasure were both so fiercely capable that he never had to worry about them being bullied.
"Not really..." Nuonuo shook her head, a bit confused about the irritated feelings inside of her, whether it was due to disappointment or being deceived and bullied.
Ji Rui assumed he was just bad with words, unable to coax anything out of his daughter. Once they got home, he followed Le Tong into the kitchen while she served dessert, telling her that their daughter was not very happy today and that she should try to comfort her.
Unexpectedly, when the pair of concerned parents came out of the kitchen, only Little Treasure was left in the living room.
"Where are brother and sister?" Le Tong placed the tray on the coffee table, looked around, and didn’t see the other two children anywhere.
Little Treasure gestured towards the yard, "Outside."
"Looks like I’m not needed anymore." Le Tong said, pulling Ji Rui down to sit, and urged Little Treasure to eat while it was hot.
Outside in the yard, the brother and sister sat side by side on the swing. Da Bao, with his long legs, stretched them conspicuously in front of the swing, while Nuonuo kicked the ground lightly with her toes, causing the swing to sway gently with her movements.
Da Bao could naturally sense his sister’s low mood, but as the little girl slowly grew up, he didn’t dare to directly ask, so he brought her out to sit, thinking that the little girl usually couldn’t hold back her words in front of him, so he waited quietly for her to speak.
The waiting was a bit dull, and Da Bao absentmindedly kicked at the fine sand on the ground with the tip of his shoe, inadvertently shaping it into a heart.
After swinging for a while, Nuonuo couldn’t help but ask.
"Brother, what kind of girls do you like?"
From an angle where Nuonuo couldn’t see, Da Bao furrowed his brow slightly and, in a rare occurrence, replied in a somewhat impatient tone.
"Why are you asking this?"
Because Nuonuo hadn’t let him accompany her, Da Bao had thought a lot about it later, recalling the things Little Treasure had said before and the information he had seen online.
Although their mom had confidently declared that Nuonuo wouldn’t fancy other boys, it seemed like a couple of fourteen or fifteen-year-old boys in the band were indeed good-looking. More importantly, they were very attentive to Nuonuo.
Of course, Nuonuo, who had been spoiled and protected by himself and the family since she was a child, wouldn’t be moved by that level of attention, but if a boy really caught Nuonuo’s eye, then that kind of attention could indeed become very troublesome.
Da Bao had thought of a mess of things at home by himself, getting so anxious he felt like he was on fire, eventually having to engage in several bouts of sparring with the instructor, winning and losing about equally, and sweating profusely, finally managing to quell his restless mood for a moment.
But now hearing Nuonuo ask such a question, it seemed that all that sweating was for naught, as the anxiety he’d just managed to suppress rose up again.
And Nuonuo, asking such a question, simply hoped to hear her brother describe a girl’s image that was opposite to the image of those two senior sisters. She thought simply, wanting only to calm her inner anxiety a bit.
"I just want to know..." Nuonuo could tell Da Bao was not very happy, but she couldn’t understand what part of her question had angered him, leading to a sense of grievance.
As for Da Bao, he thought she might be trying to find out what kind of girls boys like, after all, the only person she could refer to was her brother, right?
They say girls dress to impress those they like, she wouldn’t be trying to find something out from him and then use it to please other boys, would she?
So, hearing Nuonuo’s question, he almost blurted out "I like your type" but bit back the words before they left his mouth.
He was afraid that if this little girl knew how popular she was, she might readily accept the favor of some boy she fancied!
At that moment, Da Bao even began to hate that he wasn’t Little Treasure, so that he could be at Nuonuo’s side all the time, whether at school or elsewhere.
For the first time in his life, Da Bao had the urge to turn the little girl into a Thumbelina, to keep her tightly in his pocket so no one else could see her.
"Nuonuo, it doesn’t matter what kind of girl brother likes."
Da Bao felt like he was being led far off by the little girl; when she came back, just from the look on her face, he knew she wasn’t happy, and he just wanted to console her, not add to his own frustration.
"Tell brother why you aren’t happy?"
For this girl, maybe it really wasn’t necessary to beat around the bush; she would understand if spoken to directly.
"Brother, today I heard the senior sisters talking behind my back..."
