Chapter 654: Chapter 652: A Small Farewell Part 2 (First Update)

Outside the school, Le Tong, who got off work early, was waiting for Nuonuo and Little Treasure. Little Treasure, as usual, was carefree and bubbly, and the moment he saw Le Tong, he dashed over asking for kisses.

Nuonuo, on the other hand, was like a wilted flower, dejectedly carrying her little backpack. When she saw Le Tong, she weakly called out "Mommy," then climbed into the car by herself, buckled up, sat there properly, and on the way home, just stared out the window in a daze, no longer her usual chirpy self.

Le Tong knew very well that this little girl missed her Brother Dabao. Little Treasure, that little rascal, mysteriously pulled Le Tong over and whispered in her ear, "Mommy, Sister misses Brother."

Le Tong nodded, "Has she been like this all day?"

"Yeah! Little Treasure misses him too..." When he said this, Little Treasure put on a troubled face.

Le Tong smiled and ruffled his hair, thinking, of course, you miss him, just this very minute.

"Nuonuo, shall we go buy some food for the cats and dogs?"

All three children really liked small animals. Even though there were already two dogs and three cats at home, as soon as they went to the pet store, the three kids would be particularly happy and excited.

But today, this trick had no appeal for Nuonuo at all.

"Oh..." Nuonuo didn’t even turn her head, pressed her face against the window glass, and stared blankly at the scenery whizzing by outside.

Le Tong leaned over and hugged her, giving her a kiss on the cheek.

Nuonuo had been a part of the Ji Family for almost eight years, and during this nearly eight-year period, this was the first time the siblings had been separated, so Le Tong understood the little girl’s low spirits.

"Mommy, how many days until Brother comes back?"

Finally, Nuonuo turned her head, looking at Le Tong with eyes full of sorrow.

Dabao’s military training lasts fifteen days; only one day was over so far. Subtracting one from fifteen was a simple math problem that Nuonuo could naturally figure out.

But she still asked Le Tong for the answer. Of course, Le Tong couldn’t say anything directly, so she affectionately patted Nuonuo’s head, "Very soon."

That little rascal Little Treasure didn’t know if he genuinely thought Mommy and Sister were both too silly to solve this arithmetic problem or if he was just too naive. He pouted and hummed, "Fifteen minus one equals fourteen, Brother won’t be back for another fourteen days!"

Seeing Nuonuo’s eyes dim again, Le Tong knocked Little Treasure’s head with the back of her hand and gave him a long look.

"Ouch, Mommy, why did you hit Little Treasure? It hurts!" Little Treasure rubbed his head and asked Le Tong innocently.

"Mommy is talking with Sister, you little rascal go away." Dealing with this mischievous little brat, Le Tong would occasionally put on the face of a strict mom, otherwise, this kid would definitely take advantage.

Little Treasure stuck his tongue out at Le Tong and made a face, then pulled out his iPad to play games by himself.

Back at home, Nuonuo took her violin outside to practice as usual, and Le Tong sighed secretly with relief. Soon, the courtyard was filled with melodious music, several consecutive pieces, all in melancholy tones, which made Le Tong’s heart lift again.

After dinner, Nuonuo, who was sulking on the sofa, the little girl who never missed a class, said she didn’t want to attend her martial arts class tonight.

Le Tong knew she was in a bad mood, so she didn’t force her and let her curl up on the sofa, flipping through dozens of TV channels with the remote.

The phone rang, and Nuonuo, unusually, was the first to pounce on it.

Ji Dabao, in the military camp, had been training all day and was exhausted. After eating dinner in the cafeteria, he returned to the dormitory. The squad leader kindly took out the phone and allocated five minutes for everyone to call home to let their family know they were safe.

When it was Dabao’s turn, he directly dialed the home number, and as soon as it rang once, it was answered.

"Brother, is that you?" Nuonuo’s anxious voice came through on the other side of the line.

"That’s right, it’s me. Nuonuo, do you miss me?" Hearing Nuonuo’s eager voice, the corners of Dabao’s lips couldn’t help but lift slightly.

"Very much, very much..." Nuonuo’s voice was slightly choked with sobs.

Picturing the little face on the other end, struggling not to cry, Dabao felt like his heart was about to break.

"Be good, Nuonuo, Brother will be back soon."

"Brother, why do you have to go for so long? Is it because Nuonuo did something wrong and made you angry?"

This sentence must have been hidden in Nuonuo’s heart all day, no wonder she was sulking all day, she thought it was like this in her heart.

"Nuonuo is so good, how could you make Brother angry? Brother is in college now, and going to the military camp for training is to get physically fit, so I can protect Nuonuo better in the future, you know?"

"But we have bodyguards, why does Brother still need to protect Nuonuo?"

The little girl was stubborn. Protection, in her view, wasn’t important. She just wanted Brother to be there to take her to school, pick her up afterward, be home to practice violin with her, help her with homework, and tell bedtime stories...

"Do you think Brother is the same as the bodyguard uncle?"

Dabao knew Nuonuo would be unaccustomed, but he didn’t expect her to be so sad. Right now, his heart ached, but he could only gently persuade her.

"Not the same..." Nuonuo replied sulkily.

"Alright, Nuonuo, be good. Brother recorded lots of bedtime stories on your iPad. You can listen to them at night, and by the time you finish these stories, Brother will be back, okay?"

Dabao finally persuaded Nuonuo to hand the phone to Le Tong.

"Mommy, all our electronic devices have been temporarily confiscated, and for the next few days, I probably won’t be able to call home again. You’re working hard!"

"Silly boy, Nuonuo and Little Treasure are my children; what’s hard about it? But you, these days it’s so stuffy and hot, make sure to eat well and rest, don’t wear yourself out, Mommy will worry!"

The mother and son talked until the squad leader nearby indicated that time was up, then they both hung up the phone.

After receiving Dabao’s call, Nuonuo’s spirits lifted slightly, and she took out her books and began to do her homework.

Usually, Dabao would be the one to tutor her on her homework, but today it was Le Tong’s turn.

That kid, Little Treasure, just like Dabao, never brought his homework home to do, so he obviously had much more time to play than Nuonuo.

Little Treasure came down from the top floor after finishing his martial arts class, and Le Tong was teaching Nuonuo a math problem when Little Treasure suddenly remembered the promise he made to Brother. Sweaty, he scooted over, "Sister, let me teach you!"

Le Tong glanced at the sweaty little guy, grabbed his shirt collar and yanked it open a bit, "Little Treasure, go take a bath first."

Little Treasure casually raised his arm and sniffed it, "Not smelly..."

Le Tong lightly kicked him, "Go quickly, stop dawdling here."

This kid, though he had a smart head like his Brother Dabao, was worlds apart in terms of carefree and spontaneous personality.
