Chapter 597: Chapter 586: Happy Birthday! (Second Update)

At the police station, Ji Rui and Le Tong didn’t get to meet Mr. Ji, who had no idea they were quietly watching from another room while he gave his statement.

In the following two or three days, Mr. Ji behaved quite out of character. Where he usually called every day to ask about Baobao and Nuonuo, now there was not a word from him.

Even Baobao found it strange, "Daddy, hasn’t Grandpa called?"

Ji Rui had to lie, "Well, Grandpa hasn’t been sleeping well at night these days, so he’s been sleeping during the day."

Baobao was half skeptical, so he called the main residence himself, and Housekeeper Li’s explanation was exactly the same as Ji Rui’s.

"Young Master, the Master has been suffering from insomnia at night these days, so he has no choice but to catch up on sleep during the day; he’s still sleeping now."

Baobao was on speakerphone, so Ji Rui and Le Tong heard Housekeeper Li’s words as well.

Obviously, the story about catching up on sleep was a lie; Mr. Ji probably didn’t have the face to see his son, grandson, and daughter-in-law.

Baobao was a sensible child and didn’t bother Ji Rui and Le Tong with more questions about Mr. Ji. He just privately called back to the main residence, and of course, Housekeeper Li always answered. Baobao could only ask, "Please, Grandpa Li, take good care of Grandpa for me. When he’s feeling better, Nuonuo and I will go back to keep him company."

In the blink of an eye, it was the last day of the year.

To Le Tong, this day felt no different from usual—work as usual, life as usual.

New Year’s coincided with the weekend, so there were three days off coming up. Ji Family’s employees were excitedly discussing their short vacation plans during lunch.

Le Tong also went to the cafeteria to get lunch today. Bringing her food back, she asked Ji Rui, "Ji Rui, do we have any plans for New Year’s?"

Ji Rui shook his head, "I don’t have any. Do you?"

Le Tong couldn’t think of any good ideas for the moment, and after a while, gave up on probing further into the issue.

"Forget it, let’s see what Baobao wants to do."

Ji Rui took the food she handed over but didn’t immediately start eating.

"It’s rare to have a few days off. Why don’t we go look at wedding dresses tomorrow?"

The wedding date was set for Valentine’s Day, February 14th, after much consideration by Old Master Yang and the wise man he consulted.

"So early?"

But in Le Tong’s mind, February 14th was still more than forty days away, so there was really no rush.

Ji Rui couldn’t help but sigh. They say marriage is one of the two most important events in a woman’s life, but this woman in front of him, does she see marriage as important?

She treated everything—a certificate, a not-yet-prepared wedding—so casually.

"Le Tong, can you be a little more conscious?" Ji Rui asked, exasperated.

"Conscious of what?" Le Tong pouted, looking at him with clear eyes, void of any impurities.

He couldn’t tell if she was just naive or if she really hadn’t given the wedding any thought.

"Forget it, let’s eat."

Ji Rui felt like he was becoming more and more petty. At this rate, he’d eventually bottle up an illness, while she seemed to be getting more and more confused. Was it because work was too exhausting?

Suddenly, the seemingly silly Le Tong leaned over, her body trembling. When Ji Rui looked down at her, he realized she was suppressing a laugh.

In an instant, he understood that this woman was teasing him again!

Really, such a smart person, how could she not know the dissatisfaction and thoughts in his heart?

Le Tong giggled on his shoulder for a while before finally stopping and saying, "Mr. Ji, I’ve seen all the wedding dress and attire designs you secretly had sent, and I already gave our details to a wedding planning company. Of course, if you want to organize everything yourself, the wedding company can be canceled."

The pent-up breath in Ji Rui’s heart finally eased out.

"No need to cancel the wedding company. Let them assist us; it will cover all angles and won’t be as casual as Yuan’er’s."

Le Tong rolled her eyes. Remembering Yuan’er’s wedding setup still made her a little scared, yet President Ji said it was casual and not comprehensive?

Did that mean she’d suffer greatly on her own wedding day?

After lunch, Le Tong went out to run some errands. When she returned, Ji Rui was not there.

Le Tong was puzzled; she hadn’t heard he was going out for business today?

Upon leaving Ji Rui’s office, she ran into Lin Ling, who was delivering documents.

"Tongtong, Mr. Ji said he was going to check on the construction site. He asked you not to wander off after work and wait for Xiao Li to come pick you up."

"Oh, thanks, Sister Ling!" Le Tong didn’t think much of it.

Lin Ling teased her with a smile, "Tongtong, does Mr. Ji think of you as a child? He seemed really worried when he told me this."

Throughout these months, Le Tong had been teased enough by Ji Family’s employees that she had become quite thick-skinned.

"Isn’t he treating me like a child! This also shows he’s quite self-aware of his old age."

Lin Ling dared not respond to that; she could tease Le Tong, but not Mr. Ji.

Besides, Mr. Ji was only in his early thirties, in his prime, hardly old.

Afraid of digging a deeper hole, Lin Ling quickly handed over the documents she was holding.

"These are documents that need Mr. Ji’s signature. Should I bring them in?"

"Give them to me!"

Le Tong took the documents and began to carefully review them. She dealt with some parts she could handle personally.

Someone knocked outside, and while looking at the documents, Le Tong called out, "Come in."

"Miss Le, the President asked me to come pick you up."

It was the driver, Xiao Li, who walked in.

Le Tong looked at the time, slightly puzzled, "So early? It’s not even five o’clock yet!"

"The President wants me to pick you up before getting Baobao. The kindergarten is doing a full cleaning today, with no extended service."

Upon hearing they were going to pick up Baobao, Le Tong immediately put away the documents.

"Miss Le, you look pretty tired. Close your eyes and rest for a while, I’ll wake you when we arrive." Xiao Li said while starting the car, speaking to Le Tong in the backseat.

It took over twenty minutes to get from Ji Family to the kindergarten if the traffic was smooth. Le Tong often used this short time to rest.

"Thank you, Brother Li."

Le Tong contentedly closed her eyes and fell asleep. Twenty minutes felt remarkably long, and she had a lovely dream. When the car stopped, Le Tong slowly opened her eyes.

As her mind cleared, the scene in front of her wasn’t the kindergarten but a three-story villa with a garden.

"Brother Li, this is..."

With a face full of confusion, Le Tong rubbed her eyes hard, assuming she was still in a daze and seeing an illusion.

"Miss Le, please!"

Xiao Li opened the car door, inviting Le Tong to get out.

Though puzzled, Le Tong trusted Xiao Li, so she got out of the car swiftly, walking to the wooden fence of the villa.

"Miss Le, go on in."

As Le Tong held the pure white fence, she marveled at how this villa looked like a little castle straight out of a fairy tale and pushed open the gate.

"Boom!"

A burst of streamers spread out before her eyes, drifting down.

"Happy Birthday!"
