Chapter 409: A memory of the distant past

"Jo-Pil, what are you doing there?" A dreamy voice asked... Somewhat like it was in the distant.

Drowsiness... Ah, I felt so drowsy but it also felt like it was time for me to open my eyes.

There was a ray of sunshine. So bright.

I opened my eyes and what I saw was the familiar classroom and curtains softly swirling to the spring breeze.

My head was pressed down on a wooden desk. A familiar sensation.

"You’re sleeping again, aren’t you?" I heard that familiar voice ask again.

They were just behind the curtain. That voice... It belonged to Ki-hoon, didn’t it?

So, this was a dream.

A dream from back then when we were still classmates.

I raised my head, brushing the back of my neck, and said,

"When it’s so boring, why won’t I sleep?"

The words were slipping out of my lips so naturally, like the scene that played in my memory.

Ki-hoon pushed the curtain aside and then walked towards me, dropping his hand on the table while smiling widely.

"Then, if it’s so boring, why not do something fun?" He asked and then without warning, kissed me.

We were in the classroom at that time but it didn’t seem like he cared if someone walked in on us.

It’s not like anyone had a say in who he desired to have interest in. It was his life, he would say.

But I felt it was too much that someone like him would have an interest in me.

When did it even start?

After our first meeting, when it felt like Ki-hoon had finally acknowledged my existence in that class, he began to watch me.

It was as if his eyes were meant for one thing and that was me.

It was fine, at first. I thought he was only watching me out of curiosity. But then he would walk over at lunchtime, sit in front of me, and hand me my favorite strawberry milk.

"Here, I got extra so I’m giving this to you." He’d say.

And while his actions seemed out of the norm, I couldn’t push him away since I, too, liked him.

If everyone else liked him, what made me any different? I was weak to his handsome face and gentle personality towards me.

There’s no reason why I shouldn’t like him when he treats me so nicely and openly shows his interest in me.

An Alpha and an Omega in a relationship... What’s so wrong with that?

But then the envy and hate began to spread and I was seen as a thorn that needed to be removed.

Cliche, right? It’s always like this no matter where you go, even in the real world.

When people see that you’ve begun to acquire what they couldn’t acquire, they would start to envy and hate you. Some are just luckier than others, you know. And they hate that fact.

Because Ki-hoon showed so much attention to me and seemed to like me... No one could doubt it given how he kept watching me, smiling and even giving me snacks... They felt I had bewitched him with my Omega charm.

Ah, I wish I had a charm but unfortunately, I was just an Omega who seemed to fit his preference completely.

So, one day, I was asked to head to the rooftop. The message was said to be sent from Ki-hoon but... I frowned... That wasn’t Ki-hoon’s handwriting.

As someone who had feelings for Ki-hoon, and wished to improve my academics as well... He was tutoring me quite well... I had seen his notes.

His handwriting was so neat and even his rushed notes were properly organized. So, for someone to suddenly send a letter impersonating Ki-hoon with such rough handwriting, I could only tell that it was a setup.

And as such, I called Ki-hoon.

He left for the teacher’s office and wouldn’t be back any time soon, so they probably thought this was their chance.

They thought I would so stupidly rush up to the rooftop when they sent that note in Ki-hoon’s name but I wasn’t a fool.

I may look like a pushover but I’m far from one.

How dare they try to set me up?

Ki-hoon said he would be back in a few minutes so I quickly told him what was going on. Of course, he warned me not to go on my own so I waited.

I waited for a while, but Ki-hoon still wasn’t back, so I... Ah, you’ll never guess what I did... I went to the vice principal and showed him the note they sent me.

He was furious.

At that time, I didn’t know that the vice principal knew who Ki-hoon actually was or that there was anything particular about Ki-hoon’s identity so when he looked outraged, I felt it was because Ki-hoon’s family was rich and probably funding the school as it is.

He raged,

"How dare they try to sully a fellow student’s image?"

Sure, it looked like he was out for the students but I was sure he wouldn’t act the same way if it had been a regular student.

I couldn’t have the vice principal marching there and ruining everything so I told him to just watch on the sidelines so we can have enough evidence to punish those students.

It would be better if we had more evidence.

They could just deny having sent that note if we march towards them now.

He thought it was a great plan but first asked where Ki-hoon was.

I told him Ki-hoon was at the teacher’s office.

He looked relieved, since Ki-hoon wouldn’t need to worry about anything and he would take care of it.

So, I went to the rooftop and the vice principal followed a few steps back.

Once I walked out the door, I got pinned down immediately by a burly body belonging to the class bully of the next class.

Why was he involved?

It hurt but I didn’t groan in pain since that was likely what they wanted.

I was more worried about the vice principal. He wasn’t just going to spring out because he saw this, right? We hadn’t secured the evidence yet.

"Oh my, he really came." I heard a feminine voice. "I’m sure you were so excited when you got that note, right? Knowing you’d have a secret rendezvous with Ki-hoon must’ve made you lose your mind."

I looked up at her and recognized her to be one of my classmates.

She was one of the people who usually followed Ki-hoon when he was newly admitted into the school, but now she couldn’t even get close to him because he didn’t have time for anyone.

This must’ve made her angry.

She had dolled up every day to school, looking innocent and pretty just so she could catch his attention, but he never looked in her direction once.

"Where’s Ki-hoon?" I asked, but that infuriated her, and she frowned.

"Where’s Ki-hoon? You’re so full of yourself. Why would Ki-hoon want to meet the likes of you?"

"Then... That letter," I closed my eyes. All we had to do was get a confession. "Who sent it if not Ki-hoon?"

"Are you dumb or retarded?!" She took out a cigarette from her pencil case and a light, openly smoking, not knowing the vice principal was watching.

The others too.

There were cigarette butts littered all over the floor, like they had been smoking for a while.

"Of course, we sent the letter." She said and I glanced around carefully.

There were three other students. One female and two guys, and then add the guy who was pressing me down to the floor with brute strength.

"Seriously, what’s so good about being an Omega?" She spat out hatefully. "You’re not even pretty."

Says the one who was blatantly jealous of me and smeared her face with foundation daily to make sure she looked pretty.

Unlike her, my face was natural. And yes, I was pretty. The jealous ones would never admit it, you know.

"Ugh," I grunted. "What... What do you think you’re doing?" I asked. "This is a crime, you know."

"Huh?" Her face crinkled in a weird smirk. "It’ll only be seen as such if we’re found out. No one will know what we’re doing here and even if you tell on us, we just have to deny it. Nothing will happen if we say it’s not us since you don’t have any evidence."

I frowned, my eyebrows knitting together to show my frustration.

School bullying... Was it this bad? I wondered.

They would hurt the other without an ounce of remorse. How can they like their life like this and not feel regret? Do they even have a heart?

"Yes, that’s right. There’s nothing a measly Omega like you can do so you can regret all you can." She said, her face twisting dangerously... Like a villain who would do anything to achieve her goal.

"What are you trying to do? Are you going to ask me to stay away from Ki-hoon?"

"Ah, that would be nice but that’s too easy, don’t you think? In this case, we definitely have to teach you a lesson so you know your place. Ki-hoon has to know he can’t hang out with you because you’re too dirty," her face flushed, heaving like she was insane. "We’ll make sure you’re too dirty so Ki-hoon can never look at you with a smile again!"

"That’s enough!" The vice principal rushed out at that moment. And the students flinched in fright.

"What... what is the vice principal doing here?"
