Transmigration:The Villain Wants A Happy End Without His BeastHusbands-Chapter 114: A Burden
Night had fallen over Yishu’s manor.
She walked with Ningyan and Meishan through the quiet compound, accompanied by several guards as they escorted the pair toward the exit.
Ningyan idly played with the illusion mask in his hand.
Meishan wore a cloak with the hood lowered behind his back for now.
They had chosen to leave quietly without saying a proper goodbye to Hai Miao. Ningyan knew that if the child started crying again, he might not have the heart to leave at all.
"Your sanctuary is currently being occupied by Lan Shiyu, according to my contacts," Yishu said as they walked. "Which means you truly have nowhere to go if you plan to rely on your status as a divine beast prince."
Meishan didn’t look surprised at all, as if he had already expected it.
"That’s unfortunate," he said calmly. "I thought I could still make use of my status. But I suppose Shiyu is the heir now."
That was all he said.
Yishu, however, looked troubled. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
She suddenly stopped walking.
Ningyan and Meishan halted as well, along with the guards.
Yishu looked directly at Meishan. "You shouldn’t do this."
Meishan raised an eyebrow slightly. "I shouldn’t do what?"
Yishu sighed in frustration and stepped closer to him, closing the distance between them.
She grabbed his sleeve, her expression pleading.
"I know Lan Yunlai no longer regards you," she said. "But that’s only because of the kind of person you are. You’re righteous. Decisive. You refuse to have anything to do with demonic energy or corruption."
Her gaze briefly shifted toward Ningyan. "And I know I helped you find him."
She looked openly displeased by Ningyan’s presence.
Ningyan returned the look with a cold glare.
He didn’t like her at all.
She clearly disliked him and the position he held in Meishan’s life.
And it was painfully obvious that she was in love with Meishan.
Unfortunately for her, Meishan was completely oblivious.
Yishu turned back to Meishan.
"He’s in danger," she said urgently. "He has enemies everywhere and problems he hasn’t even begun to deal with yet. If you go with him now, you’ll only be carrying him as a burden."
Ningyan’s eye twitched.
Did she just call him a burden?
"You could stay here," Yishu continued desperately, tightening her grip on Meishan’s sleeve. "With me."
Now she wasn’t even pretending to acknowledge Ningyan’s presence anymore.
Her beautiful face softened as she looked up at Meishan, her eyelashes fluttering slightly. "We could build something together. You could even establish your own independent clan and—"
"No." Meishan’s single word exploded like a bomb.
Yishu froze.
Meishan’s expression remained completely calm and unaffected as he looked down at her hands gripping his sleeve.
Ningyan, who had been seconds away from jumping in and yelling at her, suddenly brightened with a wide smile.
Yishu forced a stiff smile and slowly released Meishan’s sleeve.
Before she could say anything else, Ningyan stepped forward and slipped between them.
He wrapped his arms around Meishan’s arm possessively and gave Yishu a sweet, almost coy smile.
"I’m really grateful that you care about Meishan so much," Ningyan said politely. "He told me that the two of you have known each other since childhood."
He deliberately kept his tone calm.
Hai Miao was still living under Yishu’s care, after all.
Even though Meishan had assured him that the child would be safe, Ningyan didn’t want to provoke her too much.
Still... inside, he was absolutely furious.
How dare she flirt with his man right in front of him?
Yishu cleared her throat. "I only want what’s best for him."
Ningyan could see that she truly was worried about Meishan.
And she wasn’t entirely wrong.
Yishu was one of the most powerful figures in Water City. If she and Meishan joined forces, they could easily rule the city together.
"I know you’re worried about me, Shushu," Meishan said gently. "But Ningyan and I are getting married. I don’t want to be separated from him."
He said it so casually that Ningyan nearly choked.
His face instantly heated up.
He hadn’t expected Meishan to just say it like that.
Yishu, on the other hand, froze.
The moment Meishan called her Shushu, she had already looked surprised.
But the word married nearly gave her an aneurysm.
"M-marriage?" she repeated stiffly.
Her expression darkened. "What do you mean by marriage?"
She did not look happy. Not even a little.
Alright.
That was enough.
Ningyan suddenly looked up at the sky. "Holy gods! Look at the time!" He gasped dramatically.
Then he bowed politely to Yishu while still clinging tightly to Meishan’s arm. "Thank you so much for hosting us! Farewell!"
Before she could say another word, Ningyan grabbed Meishan and began dragging him toward the exit of the compound.
Outside the manor gates, Ningyan quickly slipped on his illusion mask, transforming into the appearance of a tiger beastman.
Meishan quietly pulled up the hood of his cloak.
A small smile rested on his lips as Ningyan dragged him down the road.
Behind them, Yishu remained standing where she was.
Her guards stood silently nearby.
She stared in the direction Ningyan and Meishan had disappeared for a long moment.
Then she let out a deep sigh.
Turning around, she returned to her chambers.
Once inside, she pulled out a scroll from the top of her shelf and handed it to one of the guards, her expression cold and defeated.
"Deliver this to Lan Tianlong," she said. "He asked me to inform him of Meishan’s whereabouts. I refused before."
Her lips curled slightly. "But since Meishan rejected me... I no longer care."
The guard slowly accepted the scroll and bowed before leaving.
Yishu sighed heavily once the door closed.
"I expected that idiot Mu Yi to kill the damn phoenix," she muttered. "But he’s stronger than I thought."
Her eyes darkened. "Much stronger."
Then she gritted her teeth. "Well... Mu Yi isn’t the only one. He’ll die sooner or later."
A slow smile spread across her face. "And when that happens... I’ll be there to comfort my sweet Meishan."
She lay back on her bed, staring at the ceiling with a satisfied smile.
And slowly closed her eyes.
