Transmigration: The Main Character is Not Becoming the Cannon Fodder!-Chapter 111 - 4: The Queen Returns (Part 4)
Shen Yue saw her eldest daughter return safely, and even a strong woman like her couldn’t help but feel a warmth in her eyes.
Seeing Shen Yue embrace Li Shuning, Li Shuyan lowered her head and sneered on the side.
It was always like this; their gazes were always focused on Li Shuning.
"Mom, stop crying. My sister and I are both fine. Earlier, my sister even wanted to travel. Thankfully, she didn’t. Our whole family is safe, and that’s the greatest luck."
Shen Yue smiled and reached out to pull Li Shuyan, who was standing beside her, bringing both daughters closer. Only then did her heart settle.
Li Shuyan felt completely uncomfortable, wondering how long it had been since she’d been this close to anyone.
Back then in the south, she had to fight alone every day, wary of others. Because of this, she was even angrier, thinking why Li Shuning could do nothing, sitting back and enjoying the fruits, and still be so happy in the end.
The Li Family and the Xue Family both held significant status in the military. After finding Li Shuning, the two families began preparing to relocate, but there were still some things to accomplish before the move.
Lin City remained very dangerous.
About a hundred kilometers away from Lin City, there was a secret base, originally used by the military to train secret troops. Now that the world had changed drastically, anyone with status was being protected and sent there.
But Li Shuning knew that the secret base wasn’t reliable. The once hidden and safe place had now turned into a paradise for zombies.
Those originally in the base, for some reason—whether it was due to being a closed underground world or something else—two-thirds of the people there turned into zombies. Although the surviving people’s physical qualities were good, those who turned into zombies were also once excellent individuals.
Eventually, everyone in the base became zombies.
The first batch of people to arrive there quickly sensed something was wrong, but the losses were significant. Many important figures died in the zombies’ mouths.
In the story, the Li Family and the Xue Family avoided a disaster because Xue Han determinedly went to find Li Shuning, and the two families were assigned some tasks, so they arrived relatively late.
It was precisely because of this that they escaped a calamity.
Afterward, they rerouted to nearby Song City.
Song City was a reconstructed ancient city.
High city walls surrounded it, and the gates were sturdy, making it a relatively good place to hold strong.
Song City was a tourist city, but it was summer now, and the high temperatures were unbearable. Few traveled to Song City, and its population was small, but there were plenty of supermarkets and such.
From the moment they changed route, the Xue Family and the Li Family together created a base of their own.
As Xue Han’s power grew stronger, Song City became one of the more famous bases in the northern region.
These are things Li Shuning knew, but Li Shuyan didn’t. She was in the south at the time, and though she heard bits and pieces about the north, many matters were unclear to her.
They were preparing to leave Lin City, but both the Li Family and the Xue Family had brought many people and needed a lot of supplies. Resources from Lin City couldn’t be wasted, which was one of their remaining tasks.
Xue Han planned to search for supplies at first daylight.
That night, none of them slept very well.
After dawn, Xue Han and Li Shuyan, along with several others, hadn’t woken up; they were experiencing fever.
After the mutation, everyone knew a few things; fever was a sign.
Li Qing and Xue Ting were both worried. If someone survived the fever, their superpower might awaken. If not, they would turn into zombies. Some people experienced fever early, some late, and some never did, and those naturally wouldn’t awaken any superpowers.
Previously, there were night patrols, and if someone was found with a fever, they would be watched. If anyone turned into a zombie, they would be quickly dealt with to avoid becoming a hazard.
By around eight o’clock, Xue Han was the first to wake up.
He felt his whole body brimming with power.
With a flick of his hand, a ball of fire appeared in his palm.
He had awakened the Fire Ability.
Soon after, Li Shuyan also woke up; she had awakened the Thunder Ability.
Some others also woke up and awoke their abilities, but many never woke up and turned into zombies.
After clearing out the zombies, Xue Han led a team to gather supplies.
Li Shuyan stayed at home, protecting everyone.
Li Shuning never left Shen Yue, and Li Shuyan couldn’t find an opportunity.
When Li Shuyan found that her little aunt was feverish and didn’t dare to come out, she rolled her eyes, thinking she’d found her chance.
The Li Family didn’t have many servants anymore, and with so many people at home, they still needed to eat.
Li Shuning and Shen Yue, along with Xue Han’s mother and sister, cooked and shared meals. They still had hot food to eat now, but soon, even hot meals would be a luxury.
After the meal, Li Shuyan pretended to find her aunt missing and took Li Shuning to look for her.
While going upstairs, they ran into Shen Yue, who was worried about her sister-in-law and went along.
Reaching her aunt’s door, Shen Yue opened it and entered.
The next moment, Li Shuyan pushed Li Shuning in and closed the door, locking it from the outside.
Most people were downstairs, and the Li Family’s soundproofing was excellent.
Even if something happened inside, there was no way anyone downstairs would hear.
What a shame that mom insisted on coming along.
By the time Shen Yue realized something was wrong, she found the door already closed, and her eldest daughter had been pushed inside.
But instead of her sister-in-law, there was only a drooling zombie staring at them.
Shen Yue couldn’t believe it; how could her youngest daughter do such a thing?
Her heart was broken.
Shen Yue rushed to open the door but found it locked, impossible to open.
Li Shuning, however, drew out a Tang Blade, standing in front of Shen Yue.
Though scared, Shen Yue tried to pull Li Shuning behind her.
"Ningning, don’t be afraid. Mom will shield you. Quickly use the blade to chop the lock and escape. Don’t worry about mom."
Li Shuning’s heart warmed, and she held Shen Yue’s hand firmly, shielding Shen Yue behind her.
"Mom, I’m not that fragile. Mom, I’ll protect you."
Li Shuning dashed forward.
She’d been through so many Task Worlds, and in the last world, while she couldn’t cultivate spiritual power, she did learn some martial arts, which served to train her body.
Though her body was a bit weak now, but with the techniques there, she dodged the zombie, and the Tang Blade was sharp enough to decapitate the zombie.
With the zombie threat gone, Shen Yue collapsed onto the floor.
As Li Shuning came over to comfort her, Shen Yue suddenly began to cry.
"Ningning, what’s wrong with Yanyan; why would she do such a thing?"
Li Shuning thought for a moment and said, "Mom, I don’t know. Ever since my sister didn’t go on the trip, she’s been acting weird. I was living in a villa, but photos of it leaked and circulated on many forums. I had a friend help check, and it turns out my sister shared them. Last night, when I sensed something was wrong, I drove back myself. On the road, I ran into my sister and Brother Han. Brother Han protected us on the way back, and we encountered twenty to thirty zombies. My sister suddenly pushed me. Luckily, I used to learn dance, so my body coordination was good, and I managed to redirect myself, and Brother Han caught me."
"Mom, I don’t know what my sister is thinking either. She’s tried so many times to kill me, and I find it terrifying."
Mother and daughter stayed in the room for a while before finally breaking the lock and going out.
