Transmigration: Space-Aided Rise to Power and Prosperity-Chapter 448 - 284: Night Visit to Dali Temple
Ming Mo returned to the Gu Mansion, saying that only three children were rescued. The children were quite young, one legitimate daughter aged twelve, and the other two were boys, one still in swaddling clothes and the other only five years old.
Gu Chengyu knew that the Guo Mansion had only these two young masters of such ages. The girl seldom went out, and there could still be someone to replace her, but those descendants could only be abandoned.
Gu Chengyu ordered Ming Yan to properly arrange for them, not to contact them recently, to avoid being noticed by those with ill intentions. He showed the token to Guo Shi, disregarded Guo Shi’s sobbing, and handed him and the adviser over to Hu Maoshen.
As for the insider in the Wan Mansion, Gu Chengyu did not bother to put effort into finding them. Having found the adviser, there was no fear of not being able to find the insider, naturally leaving it for Hu Maoshen to worry about.
Everything was ready, only lacking the east wind. When midnight arrived, he would go for a night visit to the Dali Temple.
However, he suddenly remembered one more thing that needed doing.
"Ming Mo! Take some people and put all the valuable items in the mansion into the secret room, and replace them with things that aren’t worth a lot of silver."
Gu Chengyu recalled Zhu Pang saying before that when people from the Military Department conducted searches, it was like locusts passing through. After their search, the wooden furniture at home would suffer, and the porcelain would be smashed to pieces. Those small valuable items would just be conveniently taken by these people.
Gu Chengyu had added many expensive items to the mansion over the past two years. He was unwilling to give away good things for free.
Ming Mo paused, somewhat stunned. At this critical moment, his young master was still thinking about these things.
Gu Chengyu waited until midnight, preparing the mystery powder inside the space. Speaking of the mystery powder, this version was an improved one, with a time limit; one would wake after sleeping for half an hour and not notice anything unusual afterward, just thinking they accidentally fell asleep.
Half an hour was enough to get things done. He glanced at the time inside the space and changed into black night clothes.
"Young master, let me go instead!" Ming Mo saw Gu Chengyu preparing to leave and hurriedly tried to dissuade him. The Dali Temple was heavily guarded; no matter how high the martial arts skills were, how could he break in?
"No need, you all stay in the mansion; maybe tomorrow we’ll have a tough battle. I’ll be back soon, don’t worry." Gu Chengyu said, and with a few light steps disappeared into the night.
Ming Mo knew that the young master always did things confidently and didn’t like disobedient servants. He could only worry inside the mansion; the young master’s martial arts skills were high, fearing he might complicate things.
Leveraging the night, Gu Chengyu briefly touched the roof and headed towards the Dali Temple. Tonight’s moon was large and round, the moonlight bright, covering the gardens of those wealthy families with a layer of Yin Shuang, looking extremely beautiful, but Gu Chengyu was in no mood to appreciate the scene.
He quietly arrived outside the Dali Temple, finding two soldiers guarding the gate. Outside, there were also two teams of soldiers patrolling. He looked around; to enter, he could only wait for the moment, when they switched shifts.
Gu Chengyu waited for about half an hour, watching the soldiers just complete the changeover, guessing it must have been the shift change time, and no swap was needed shortly, he then set his mind at ease.
Taking a turn around the rooftops, he found only one house inside was slightly lower, other places with floors had soldiers guarding.
Lying on the rooftop, Gu Chengyu glanced at the moonlight, feeling the urge to curse. Damn it, wasn’t it half-moon, how come the moon was so round and bright? Tonight was really not a good opportunity! But time waits for no one, he could only act tonight. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Looking at the soldier guards over there, he decided to take them out first; only then could he go into the low courtyard.
Gu Chengyu moved slowly, holding his breath. Sprinkling a little mystery powder, the soldier fainted once inhaling. Gu Chengyu promptly came forward, leaning his body against the nearby pillar, using his hand-held spear for support, preventing him from collapsing. In this way, when he woke he could fake having accidentally fallen asleep.
Gu Chengyu flew downwards, avoiding patrolling soldiers all the way, spotting an entrance marked as the Heavenly Prison. Guards were still stationing there.
Gu Chengyu finally felt he underestimated the Dali Temple; indeed every obstacle having two guards, coupled with several battalions patrols.
Watching the soldier battalion having just passed by, he glanced towards the two guards and quickly scattered the mystery powder; fortunately, those soldiers didn’t constantly patrol the place.
Seeing the two about to fall, Gu Chengyu replicated the technique, leaning both bodies against the wall. Having watched these patrol patterns on the rooftops, only a quarter-hour remained before they would check here.
Knowing time was limited, Gu Chengyu took the keys from the guard and unlocked the Heavenly Prison gate.
Pushing the gate aside, upon entry, several rows of cells appeared inside. Some cells contained people, while others were empty. Luckily, not many people were inside, otherwise Gu Chengyu would’ve wasted much time searching for individuals. And if prisoners awoke, unsure if they wouldn’t yell.
Litfootedly, Gu Chengyu searched through two rows of cells, without spotting Wan Xue Nian and Song Shuqing. A glance at the cell layouts, inside were several solitary confinement cells.
Suddenly remembering, Wan Xue Nian and Song Shuqing were just imprisoned. Their issues unresolved; of course, they’d be held separately to prevent contact with outsiders.
As he stepped forward to enter, suddenly, voices were heard.
"Brother Wang, you can’t sleep! If there are nighttime interrogations from the lord, caught sleeping, we’ll be in big trouble!"
A sudden voice startled the unprepared Gu Chengyu, who dodged to the side, observing surroundings, fearing the voice might wake prison inmates.
"What’s there to fear? Is anyone able to enter? Know this is what kind of place? Even inviting, they would refuse to come!"
A following snore came from one, while the other had no response.
After a few breaths, seeing prisoners unreactive, must be accustomed. Some even carrying injuries, likely without energy to meddle in prison guard affairs. Nonetheless, to be safe, Gu Chengyu scattered mystery powder into those inmate cells and spent little time since not many prisoners.
Researching around entrance glanced at, noticing two guards with food and drink. One seemed drowsy, yawning heavily; another already dozing on the tabletop, eyes shut, appeared asleep.
Believing this guard probably unable to endure; surely, the prison guard, seeing the other asleep, also lay down for rest. Stealthily entering, Gu Chengyu scattered the mystery powder, immediately deepening both guard’s sleep.
Glancing at a few cell setups, one inhabited cell, another opposing direction, housing an individual inside.
"Is that Lord Wan?" This cell was near the guard, thinking keeping Wan Xue Nian.
Seeing portraits of Wan Xue Nian and Song Shuqing, this person lay face-up, covered by messy hair strands, obscuring facial features.
"Cough!" Wan Xue Nian, in a daze, seemed hearing someone calling, very familiar term, he listened for decades.
