Chapter 325: Chapter 161: Killing Without Blinking

Yao Mengxian was deep in thought, not expecting Qing Dai to kneel before her.

"Miss! This maid truly deserves to die!" Qing Dai sobbed as she spoke, thinking if it wasn’t for the noise she made, they wouldn’t have encountered the River Bandits.

Yao Mengxian remained silent. Qing Dai was lively by nature and usually quite diligent and clever.

However, she felt Qing Dai was too rash in handling situations. From this incident, it seemed she might still lack loyalty. Still, perhaps Qing Dai was just scared out of her wits earlier. No matter what, though Qing Dai from her dreams didn’t accompany her to the end, she never betrayed her.

"Get up!" While Yao Mengxian could understand, she couldn’t completely forgive her just yet. Qing Dai’s temperament indeed needed some change. Life in the mansion was tough, and if Qing Dai wasn’t cautious, she could endanger not only herself but everyone else too.

So, she planned to keep her cold for a while.

Qing Dai noticed her mistress didn’t say anything to blame her but her expression was aloof, which made her feel somewhat wronged. Of course, she was truly terrified and was too scared to react. Her legs went weak, so when the River Bandits intended to insult the miss, she couldn’t help in time. Was the miss upset because of this?

Or was she angry because her scream attracted the River Bandits?

Gu Chengyu instructed the steward to gather some people to watch over the five River Bandits. As for the injuries on the other passengers and crew, they could only do some simple bandaging. Gu Chengyu took out hemostatic pills from his stash and gave them to everyone. The remaining injuries being external, they would have to wait until the next dock to find a doctor.

What worried Gu Chengyu now was that by the next checkpoint, there would definitely be inquiries and searches. They might even need to take the government officials to search for the bodies of the River Bandits, which would take a lot of hours. Additionally, these injured people would stop at the next dock to find a medical clinic, costing even more time.

This will certainly delay the trip by several days, beyond the original expectations. His mother and others waiting at home would become anxious, and if they heard rumors, they might be worried to death. Thinking of this, Gu Chengyu decided to write a letter by hand and have the escort agency deliver it when they docked at the next town.

As for the cleanup, Gu Chengyu didn’t get involved; it was the shipmen’s job. He called Ming Mo and Sun Xian, preparing to rest in the cabin. With their emotions tensed from the start and fighting later on, it took nearly two hours, and everyone was exhausted, wanting to rest first.

The skilled middle-aged man had already been carried away. There was another person on the ship with impressive abilities. That person stood at the stern during the fight and though he didn’t strike often, each time he did, a River Bandit got injured. He was quite the master.

It seemed this ship had no shortage of skilled people, but it was a mystery why the River Bandits came. If it was for money, that reason seemed insufficient. He didn’t want to question the captured River Bandits, as the more you know, the quicker you die! Besides, only one looked like a small leader, and the others were just minions unlikely to know much, even if questioned.

On the way back to his cabin, Gu Chengyu was met with stares from everyone.

"Look! It’s him, doesn’t even blink when killing people!" One passenger pointed at Gu Chengyu, speaking while stepping back, a fearful look on his face, as if Gu Chengyu appeared terrifying.

"Is it really him? He sure doesn’t look it! Appears like a scholar, really can’t judge people by appearances!" Someone beside him also retreated two steps, glancing Gu Chengyu up and down, clicking his tongue in disbelief.

Gu Chengyu rolled his eyes. He killed a few River Bandits and turned into a ruthless killer, not blinking an eye? What he didn’t know was that, in their eyes, his swift actions and expressionless face during the fight really painted him as someone ruthless.

Ming Mo and Ming Yan were very tired, wanting only to rest in their cabin. Hearing people speak like this about their young master made Ming Yan almost explode with anger. Their young master fought bravely to protect everyone on the ship, yet these people almost called him heartless.

Ming Yan, the most hot-headed one, immediately shouted, "Some people just don’t know any better, hiding in their rooms like turtles when the River Bandits came. Yet when we kill them off, they come out to criticize. Where do they get the nerve?"

Those people, hearing this, looked embarrassed. It wasn’t that they didn’t want to refute, but seeing Gu Chengyu and those who fought also glaring at them, they knew they had no ground to argue, and could only pull their companions back to their rooms.

"Why bother with them? You all go rest. I’ll ask the shipmen to boil some hot water." Gu Chengyu also knew that Ming Mo and the others were indeed exhausted. Earlier, he had noticed their hands trembling as they held their short swords.

"How can we let you, young master, do this? I’ll go ask instead. You should wash up too! You’re the most exhausted!" Ming Mo felt moved, knowing their young master always cared for them. But he killed the most enemies, he must be really tired too.

Gu Chengyu didn’t say much more; it was just a command after all. He also wanted to rest early.

That day, under the bright sky, besides the ship captain, crew, and the kitchen staff, everyone else went to bed. Those hiding in their rooms, after such a huge scare at night, wanted to sleep for comfort too.

Gu Chengyu slept until it was time for the evening meal, and Ming Mo and the others had already woken up.

"Brother Sun and Brother Ye have woken up yet?" Gu Chengyu, after washing up and sitting at the table, thought about Sun Xian and the others.

"Mr. Sun and the others haven’t woken up yet!" Ming Mo brought the food to the table; everyone hadn’t eaten all day and were famished.

Hearing this, Gu Chengyu nodded, "Tell the shipmen to save some food for them, in case they wake up late and there’s nothing left in the kitchen."

Ming Mo nodded in agreement, then remembered what someone had said earlier.

"Young master! Someone came to visit earlier, saying his master wanted to meet you!"

"Oh? Did they give their name?" Gu Chengyu was a bit puzzled; they didn’t know anyone on this ship.

"They didn’t say, only that his master had a business proposal for you!" Ming Yan also brought a teapot and cups from outside. The tea on the ship had to be fetched from the kitchen. Of course, servants from rich families could set up a stove in their rooms and brew tea themselves.

Gu Chengyu frowned, deciding not to bother, feeling there was nothing good ahead. Besides, if someone wanted to discuss business, they should show sincerity and not expect others to accommodate them.

"Ignore it. If they truly have good intentions, they’ll come themselves! You all should go down and eat!"

"Knock, knock, knock!" Just as Gu Chengyu took a few bites of his meal, someone knocked on the door, and Ming Mo naturally went to open it.

"Young man, is your young master awake?"

Gu Chengyu heard the voice of an older woman, and it sounded quite familiar.
