Transmigration; Married to My Ex-Fiancé's Uncle-Chapter 262; Lu Yuze 14
And through it all, the whispers continued, building and spreading like ripples in water.
Each nurse who checked Lu Zeyan’s vitals heard the same phrase, delivered in the same broken tone.
Each visitor who passed his room caught fragments of his confession through the door.
Each staff member who updated his chart noted the same unchanging condition: Patient remains fixated on a single phrase. No improvement in cognitive function. Prognosis unclear.
The story grew with each retelling, accumulating details both true and imagined, until Lu Zeyan’s condition became less a medical case and more a cautionary tale.
This is what happens when you destroy an innocent person.
This is what happens when you think you can escape justice.
This is what happens when karma finally comes to collect.
And in a luxury bed, like Shuyin lay sleeping soundly.
— — — — —
It was 8:30 in the evening, and Shuyin had been sleeping for an hour and a half.
She stirred, her eyes opening slowly as a soft yawn escaped her lips. Even before she was fully awake, she sensed them, two small presences close by, their breathing quiet but unmistakable.
"Momma, you’re finally awake..." Yuyan’s voice came first, bright with relief.
"We thought you’d sleep forever," Chen Xiao added, his tone still a little shy, still adjusting to this new family, this new life that had begun only this morning.
"Mnnhhh... You two slept even longer than I did," Shuyin murmured, stretching her arms above her head as she sat up.
The children were perched on the edge of the large bed, close enough to watch her but polite enough not to disturb her sleep. She reached out instinctively, her fingers gentle as she smoothed their tousled hair. "Did you have good dreams?"
"Yes!" Yuyan said immediately.
Chen Xiao nodded, though he didn’t elaborate.
"Good." Shuyin smiled warmly at them both. "Are you hungry?"
"Starving!" Yuyan declared dramatically.
"Me too," Chen Xiao admitted more quietly.
"Then let’s go find your papa and have dinner." She started to swing her legs off the bed, but before she could fully stand, two hands grabbed hers.
"Come on, Momma!" Yuyan tugged eagerly, already pulling her toward the edge of the mattress.
Chen Xiao held her other hand more carefully, as if still learning how much he was allowed to reach for her.
"Okay, okay," Shuyin laughed softly, letting them guide her to her feet. "But give me five minutes to freshen up first. I can’t go to dinner looking like this."
"You look just fine Momma!" Yuyan protested.
"Five minutes," Shuyin repeated gently but firmly, squeezing both their hands before releasing them. "Wait right here, and then we’ll go together."
She slipped into the bathroom and closed the door behind her.
The shower was quick but refreshing, just enough to wash away the heaviness of sleep and clear her mind. She changed into comfortable evening clothes, ran a brush through her hair, and checked her reflection briefly in the mirror.
She looked... peaceful. Rested.
Strange, she thought, how easily she has settled into this.
When she emerged, both children were still waiting exactly where she’d left them, sitting side by side on the bed like a pair of patient sentinels.
"Ready!" Yuyan announced the moment she saw her. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
"Then let’s go." Shuyin offered them each a hand again, and they took it without hesitation this time, Yuyan eagerly, Chen Xiao a little more carefully but with growing confidence.
Together, the three of them made their way out of the bedroom and down the corridor.
They walked through the corridors, and Shuyin could feel the presence of shadow guards positioned strategically throughout the mansion, silent sentinels watching over the household.
They descended the stairs to the sitting area, but Yuyan didn’t see her father there.
"Father should be in his study room, I think," she said softly, glancing toward the hallway.
"Let’s find him then," Shuyin agreed.
Yuyan led the way confidently. When they reached the study door, she waited for her momma to knock, but Shuyin didn’t hesitate; she just pushed it open and walked straight in.
Lu Yuze looked up from his desk, completely unsurprised by the intrusion. Having a wife and kids, you should expect anything.
"Hehehe... Sorry for the rudeness!" Shuyin laughed, quickly stepping back out with the children. This time she knocked properly on the doorframe and waited.
"Come in," Lu Yuze’s voice came from inside, laced with amusement.
He didn’t know whether to laugh or cry at their little performance. What exactly did they think he was doing in here that required such belated formality?
They entered properly this time. Yuyan and Chen Xiao stayed near the door while Shuyin walked forward.
"Good evening, my dear husband," she said warmly.
"We’re sorry for that, my dear husband," she added with a teasing lilt, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
She moved around the desk and, without hesitation, settled herself onto Lu Yuze’s lap, her movements graceful and deliberate.
She was wearing comfortable pajamas, a soft cotton top, and matching trousers. Her fingers went to the buttons at her collar, beginning to unfasten them absently as she leaned into him.
Then she noticed the monitors.
All three screens were active. Video feeds. Multiple faces in small windows, clearly a business meeting in progress.
"Damn," she breathed, her hands freezing mid-motion.
She hadn’t been thinking about anything except the frustration from earlier that evening, when he’d left her wanting and they’d been interrupted by circumstances. Her body still remembered that unfinished heat.
"It’s okay," Lu Yuze murmured, his hand covering hers, not quite stopping her, but not quite allowing her to continue either. His voice was low and controlled, though she could feel the subtle tension in his body beneath her.
He glanced toward the children. "Yuyan, Chen Xiao... wait for me in the dining room. We’ll join you shortly."
"Daddy! You’re catching up so fast!" Yuyan giggled knowingly, grabbing Chen Xiao’s hand and heading for the door. "You two better hurry up though!"
