Chapter 58: Chapter 58: Only Time Will Tell

"Huh?"

Lena muttered, her brows furrowing in consternation as she gulped audibly.

She hadn’t thought this far. Or more specifically, she just hadn’t anticipated this outcome.

Everything she had ever wanted in life, she had acquired. She thought this would be the same.

But it didn’t seem that way. Feeling the gazes falling onto her, the pressure amplified as beads of sweat dripped down her face. Her mouth opened and closed, struggling to find the right words before finally sputtering,

"Y-you have to."

"Do I?" Ulric muttered, his brows arching in surprise, remembering the pain she had caused the old host when she had annulled the marriage.

Now that he looked back, it wouldn’t be out of the question to say she was the main cause he had lost his will to live. And now she wanted to step back into his life as if nothing had happened.

It seemed she was a lot less smart than the old host had given her credit for, or just straight-out delusional.

And looking at her frame, he could see that realization slowly sink in. As his words drifted into her ears, Lena fidgeted nervously as her eyes locked into the distance where Lyra and Amber were pacing restlessly.

"Is it because of them?" She had noticed how his gaze averted to them every once in a while, which further pressed in another terrifying realization.

Given his monstrous S-rank talent, many ladies would be willing to throw themselves at him just for his existence. And if she were to compare herself, she paled in comparison. Holding no leverage at all.

Before the words were fully out of her mouth, she suddenly felt the pressure oozing from the figure before her intensify.

Causing her knees to buckle weakly as she nearly knelt to the ground. Had her words somehow sparked his rage? Did she say something wrong?

Multiple thoughts clawed at the back of her mind as, with the help of all her strength and the hidden treasure her father had gifted her, she managed to stumble back, her humiliation was complete.

She didn’t know the answers to all of this, but one thing was certain, opening her eyes to the massive disparity between them.

She had thought the overwhelming aura leaking from his frame was because he had yet to learn to control it, but she had been exceedingly wrong. He had. All that he had emitted was just the force of his presence.

Feeling the weight of his aura, even for a second, couldn’t help but fill her with fear, giving her the illusion that if he wanted, he could easily take her life just by releasing his aura.

Which caused her heart to thump rapidly, rage seething deep inside her as her fists clenched tightly. He wasn’t like this before.

At the side, Kaelith shook his head slightly. He had thought with all the lessons he had imparted to her, she would at least be a little sly. But this... this was just disappointing.

Still, trying to salvage what little he could, he shifted his attention to Greyson, trying to get through to Ulric through him.

"Shouldn’t you..." he began.

Before he could say more, he was cut off by Greyson, who easily saw through his intentions.

"It’s best to leave the matters of the young generation to them."

Sighing softly, Kaelith shifted his attention to Ulric. To a certain extent, he could understand the youth’s rage as to why he hadn’t interfered when he released his aura.

But he still couldn’t bring himself to see their two houses not united. It was just all too frustrating. He could already plot out the future with the youth before him as his son-in-law, and it was limitless. He couldn’t let go that easily.

Trying one last time, he shifted his gaze to Ulric before muttering as amicably as possible,

"Please think about it, young lord. If you ever change your mind, the gates to our Silverblood residence will forever be open to you."

With those words, he turned, walking towards Lena, about to drag her back into the carriage before giving her a piece of his mind.

But before he could, just as he approached her, she seemed to regain a sudden burst of courage as she sputtered hatefully, pale dark eyes flashing with disdain.

"No one has ever humiliated me like this before. I don’t care if you’re an S-rank talent. I’ll make you pay! Do you hear me!? I-l..."

Before she could continue, a smacking sound echoed as Lena dropped to the ground with a sudden shriek.

Looking down, Kaelith shook his head rapidly as his lips twitched repeatedly, unable to suppress his rage anymore.

Failing to amend the marriage was one thing. But further escalating it by threatening an S-rank being was just another thing entirely.

This was just outright courting death. Didn’t she hear about his monstrous pace of advancement? Did she want him to decimate the Silverblood residence a few months from now because of this disrespect? Were her eyes so blinded she couldn’t see when she was courting death?

As these thoughts raced at the back of his mind, an urge to pick her up and dish out a couple more slaps couldn’t help but flare deep inside him.

Turning hurriedly, he locked eyes with the two figures before muttering,

"Don’t bother with her. She’s too young to understand what she is saying."

And as if to prove his point, he hurriedly picked up Lena, who looked entirely different.

A red tinge had filled one half of her face, branded with a fiery handprint that was now swelling rapidly to give her a... unique appearance as she apologized through all the shame.

"I-I’m sorry."

Only after seeing the quiet nod from Greyson did a faint sigh of relief escape his lips as he hurriedly rushed to the carriage, afraid she would make another scene.

Tearing his gaze from the scene, Ulric sighed. The sight had been... interesting and oddly soothing. But that was all it was.

And more than that, he understood the reason behind Kaelith’s actions. While he was weak, Kaelith saw through that to his potential brought about by his talent.

But even then, after a while, talent without strength would be useless. It was time to cash in, he thought as he clasped his hands behind his back, his eyes shifting to the the edge of the city.

He walked the path of strength so he would never have to stand on the other side.

With all those thoughts in mind, he slowly walked forward to the edge of the city. It was finally time to press for his breakthrough.

A place beyond the peering gazes of others. He didn’t know if it would cause a commotion, but he wouldn’t risk exposing his cards all at once. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

After all. The blade kept in its sheath is often sharper than the one brandished in the sun.

He reckoned the strength he would acquire would be more than enough to push his combat strength to rival peak E-rank or maybe D-rank beings. It had to. He clenched his fingers, eyes swirling with determination and exhilaration.

When he was a few hundred meters away, his gaze slowly turned as he muttered towards Greyson,

"A few hours and my promise will be fulfilled."

As the words trailed over to him, Greyson’s eyes widened in shock as he stared at the retreating figure.

"Could he?"

He didn’t dwell on that thought for long.

He had learned his lesson long ago not to put a limit on the black-robed monstrous potential.

An E-rank being with the combat power of a D-rank being? The thought was madness itself.

But now, only time could tell. He smiled as his gaze lifted to the sky. Whatever the result, he would be here.

Waiting.
