Transmigrated to Game World with SSS Wife-Chapter 72: A Long Line of Corpses
[Nick's PoV]
Death was rampant.
Death was strong.
Death was overpowering.
It was infinite, endless, ever encroaching.
No matter how many times his sword swung, no matter how many corpses decided to die again, it felt like thousands more took their place.
Even worse than that, not a single death gave him any experience points. It was the same as it was back in the tutorial, what felt like forever ago.
Except, back then, the enemies he faced weren't all that strong. Additionally, he could actually see those goblins.
Just like he had feared, [Farseeing Eyes] was not nearly a good enough substitute for actually being able to see. Sure, it was the only reason they were still alive. Still, relying on the vision of his enemies' weapons was far from ideal.
In front of him, Elise guided the two past corridor after corridor, through room after room. Because of the situation, he practically put his life in her hands. If she led him astray or betrayed him, he highly doubted his ability to survive this graveyard.
Something told him he wouldn't have to worry about that though. And besides, there wasn't much he could do about that problem.
There was a lot he could do about the Fallen who were feeling lonely though.
'I'm sorry guys, but not today. I'm not into that groupie stuff.'
[Emperor's Slash]
[Emperor's Slash]
One of the few advantages he had right now was his perk. Because of their large, concentrated zombified attacks, they made pretty good targets. With just a single slash of his sword, Nick could damage hundreds of them at once.
In almost any other scenario, that would be enough to win the battle. When facing an endless enemy, though, it was moreso just delaying the inevitable.
Gritting his teeth as he barely caught a strike from one of the Fallen, Nick muttered, "You know, it would be nice if we could get to that necromancer!"
"I'm trying, Progenitor!" Elise called, short and sweet.
'Focus... yea yea.'
Nick threw the Fallen to the side, unequipping his Fang as he did so. He ignored the sound of the Fallen colliding with a few of his comrades as he re-equipped his Fang. By doing this, he eliminated any possibility of losing his weapon when throwing the Fallen.
With a singular fluid motion, he swung his Fang, once again killing at least a hundred dead beings.
Just a few seconds later, a hundred more took their place.
'What the hell is this?'
It did feel like an upgraded version of what Ethos had thrown at him. An endless horde.
Like it was a welcoming party, meant to tire him out before he faced the true boss. Was that what this was?
The work of the necromancer, in an attempt to create a fight he could win?
'Well, you'll be sorely disappointed. I'm here to unlock the first seal of annihilation, not lose to some old dude infatuated with his dead friends.'
With his resolve set even deeper, Nick closed his eyes for a second as he attempted to expand the sight of his [Farseeing Eyes]. First, he was hit with a cruel reminder of the impending threat. Then, he moved past that and focused on the corridors they had yet to explore.
Empty.
Empty.
Empty.
All throughout the courtyard, he could sense no weapons or skills in play except for the ones right next to him. Taking a momentary break from this expansion of the senses, Nick swung his sword and ended the most prominent group of attackers. Within seconds more would take their place, so he had to be quick.
'C'mon, you dam eyes!'
Empty.
Empty.
Once again, everything he saw was completely empty. Except for impending doom, of course.
But there had to be something... the necromancer had to be somewhere, using some kind of skill to control this wave of the dead. Yet... there was nothing. Nothing except thousands of weapons threatening to end Nick and Elise.
Was there even really a necromancer? Or did that man send them on a wild goose chase, expecting them to die?
Enraged with such a prospect, Nick ended the fruitless chase instantly. Shaking off Elise's arm, he turned to where he knew the Fallen were.
Ignoring her soft, "HEY!" he activated his skills [Evisceration] and [Shadow Step].
Just a singular instant after doing so, none of the Fallen knew where he was. When they finally figured that out, it was far too late. They were already decapitated, with the resulting [Emperor's Slash] having killed all of their comrades as well.
He knew he only had a few moments of this omnipotence, but he also knew that didn't matter all that much.
When a king decided to enforce his will, it was absolute as long as he followed through. Which Nick had every intention of doing.
Even though there wasn't a single system chime notifying him of any experience, Nick knew he was cleaning through the ranks of the dead like a man spraying water on an ant hill.

To them, Nick felt like their master. Those were the only two beings they ever knew that could cause death on such a large scale.
Thousands of the dead died in seconds. An endless horde was reduced to nothing more than a pile of flesh, a mountain of bones.
If they hadn't already created a river of blood 532 years ago, the corpses would have certainly flooded the entire courtyard.
As it stood, even without his vision Nick knew not even a single speck of red had dotted his armor or weapons. He was well acquainted with the feel and smell of blood at this point.
Taking in a few deep breaths, Nick activated his [Farseeing Eyes] to make sure there wasn't a single Fallen left. Smiling, he realized there wasn't a single one.
Then he saw it.
An eye.
One that definitely wasn't there earlier.
One that watched him closely, intently.
It seemed to scan him and then...
A laugh penetrated through this special vision as the eye grew wide with life and excitement.
For Nick, the intention was clear.
The necromancer was deeply impressed by Nick's mastery over death and wanted to see his prowess firsthand.
