Transmigrated to Game World with SSS Wife-Chapter 69: Heaven’s Burrow Pt.2
It was significantly harder to descend a ladder with a sword in hand. However, after just 10 feet he was completely shrouded in darkness.
Darkness was a place that held many monsters and demons and things of their nightmares. There was no way he would unequip his Fang when threatened with that kind of danger.
So, instead, he held his Fang away from him with his right hand, holding it with his top two fingers. His thumb and bottom two fingers held onto the rung of the ladder while also providing support to the Fang.
It was a long and arduous journey, but after another 100 feet of deliberate movements, Nick found himself at the bottom. He shook out a few cramps that had begun forming as he took a deep breath.
The cellar was musky and dark. Little beasts scurried by: rats, spiders, evil shet like that. Hopefully, none of them were primordial.
Taking a hesitant look above him, he saw a tiny speck of light far above him. Even with his enhanced senses, the trapdoor was entirely imperceptible. No wind flowed down through the small crack, so the scents of the cellar were decided entirely by what existed underground.
Cold, damp death.

Turning away from the only source of light left, Nick sighed as he looked around the expanse, hoping his eyes would adjust.
Darkness.
Nick lifted his hand to his face, pulling it closer and closer in an attempt to see it. He felt the hand collide with his face before he ever saw it. As he lowered his hand in defeat, Nick knew this wasn't any regular kind of darkness.
It was pitch black.
"Elise?" Nick called out among the darkness, hoping his guide hadn't left him. Some NPCs did that, amongst other stupid things. That's why nobody liked quests where you had to follow someone.
In the real world, where he couldn't even see his hand as it slapped him, Elise leaving wouldn't just be some minor inconvenience. It would be a detrimental, deadly conflict.
"Are you coming or not?" Her voice called from somewhere to the right, gentle yet harsh.
Turning to the voice, Nick started walking as he raised his hand in front of him. All of his life he had wondered what it was like to be blind, and now he had a perfect chance to learn. A chance he couldn't say he was particularly fond of.
"I can't see."
An understatement. At any moment he could walk right into a monster's mouth and be none the wiser.
"Oh. Well, that makes sense I guess. Uh, let me come to you then."
'Did she teleport?'
He could've sworn he was walking to the right but... her voice just now came from the left. Was his sense of direction really that bad?
No. The answer was far more simple and obvious
Safety only existed as long as darkness permitted it.
At any moment, he could be led astray down one of its infinite halls.
A soft, almost imperceptible force rushed forward until it crescendoed into touching his shoulder.
"I got you. Follow–"
Elise's sudden voice made Nick's hair stand straight upright as he jumped. When his boots touched the ground again, a soft echo sounded across the room.
'Empty.' Nick thought as embarrassment flushed on his face. It was almost red enough to shine through the darkness.
Almost.
"Uh, so I'm gonna put my hand on your shoulder again. Don't freak out this time, ok." Elise made sure to speak this time, instead of randomly placing her hand on his shoulder and expecting him not to react.
A grin flashed across his face as she wrapped her arm around one of his. If he could see them, he knew that any outsider would think they looked like a couple.
Turning to where he imagined her to be, he whispered, "Hey, if you were this nice from the start I never would've jumped."
A small sigh filled the air completely opposite of him, followed by an annoyed voice saying, "Just follow me."
...
She had led him through the labyrinth of a cemetery for what felt like hours at this point. They walked past endless path after endless path, an endless expanse of pure darkness. Luckily, no Fallen decided to attack them.
Nick knew that his only line of defense would be his [Farseeing Eyes]. Following an enemy through the eyes of their sword didn't invoke too much confidence for Nick. However, if that's what he ended up needing to do then he knew he'd be able to make do.
After all, he had already defied one grave.
"Stop!" Elise forcefully whispered as she pulled back hard on Nick's arm.
He complied instantly, albeit in an awkward position. Having been in the middle of walking, his legs were spread in a fairly wide V-shape. Maintaining the position was already causing great strain on his muscles but he refused to return to a comfortable state.
Somewhere in the darkness, he heard a large collection of clacking bones. Not just 1 or 2, but 50. Maybe 100 or even 100s.
Either way, he knew that even the slight sound of fixing his position would instantly alert them to their presence. Although the fight would be in Nick's favor if there was light, he knew that with his vision limited by their weapons and Elise's guidance, they would kill him.
This wasn't something he could reliably fight his way out of. No, they had to maintain perfect stealth and assassinate this necromancer.
Nick bit his bottom lip as his legs began to wobble. The thick taste of blood overloaded his senses but the brief pain helped to keep him still for a little—
Clack!
Clack!
Clack!
The sounds of the Fallen were approaching closer and closer. Willing his legs to become still, Nick wondered if it even mattered. Unless his ears were tricking him, they were accidentally getting closer and closer just by walking.
At any moment, they would be on top of them—
"Run!!"
The entire earth shook at Elise's command, a stampede of death rushing to take out the Progenitor and his newest ally.
