Nick was still staring at his Fang when Ugyr transformed into a dragon even while in the room, her weirdly noncorporeal form phasing through the mansion. It seemed to be a conscious action, as she was able to touch him just fine.

'She sure knows how to use her tail...'

And the million other ways she loved to tantalize him. Really, it was as frustrating as it was...

WHO KNEW DRAGONS ARE HOT!!!

"Uh, Nick? Are you ok? Your face is all red!!"

'My face?'

The next second Amelia was crouching right next to him, mere inches away from his face. He knew she was merely checking to see if he had a fever or something, but he couldn't help falling in love with her luscious lips. Luckily she was wearing regular clothes instead of gamer armor, or Nick would've completely lost herself.

"Well, your head doesn't feel hot." Amelia stared into his eyes for a second before they widened.

Huh?

"Don't tell me you're dying!! I've heard of this disease before!" She squeaked while holding either side of Nick's face with her hands. Any onlooker would've easily mistaken the scene to be leading up to a kiss.

'The only thing I'm dying from is excitement.' Nick thought before gulping.

This caused Amelia to squeak again, screaming, "Hey, d-don't choke Nick!"

'D-don't choke?'

It was getting hard to breathe...

WHY DID EVERY GIRL HERE HAVE TO BE HOT!!!

"Uh, I'm fine, really. I just... well."

Amelia understood instantly, though she didn't drop her eyes or do anything else that scared people do. It was a weird thing, Nick realized—that at seemingly random moments, she went from a scared mouse to a warrior.

Looking into her eyes, he could tell that there was fear too. It wasn't that she wasn't scared at that moment; it was just that, for some reason, she could fight through her fears now.

After a few seconds of solemn silence, Amelia dropped her head so that her forehead rested just under his chin. She took a few deep, steadying breaths as she took in his pleasant aroma.

Now that they were touching, Nick realized that she had been shaking, just in micro-movements that not even he could detect. Right now, she was doing her best to hide her doubts and fears.

The easiest way she could do that was to rely on him, using his body as a sort of wall to lay her worried mind on.

Another sharp breath came from Amelia and then she was completely still. A second later, a small almost imperceptible whisper left her lips.

"Nick, I-I don't know what you should do. I want you to protect me, protect us. Of course, I want to live. But... to kill Yck..."

Nick grabbed her by the shoulders, careful to avoid her breasts, and pushed her back so that he could look her directly in her eyes.

They were a deep blue today. Lately, he had realized her eyes changed color seemingly on a whim. Some days they were green, others purple. For a few days, they were even scarlet.

Today, they were a deep blue, like the ocean or sky.

More than that, they were beautiful.

So beautiful that they stopped Nick for a second. He was planning on saying something cool, something to tell Amelia that everything would be ok. Whether he ended up killing Yck or not.

Instead...

"HHHHMMMMPPPPHHHH!!!"

Amelia let out a loud squeal as his mouth touched hers.

But at the same time, she was reciprocating. Just like Juls, Amelia did love him.

And maybe it was just the binding thing, but in that moment Nick didn't entirely care. He had found love here, a reason to live, to truly live. His life had meaning again, something more than just gacha and depression.

That new life was to be protected at all costs.

As their inexperienced tongues connected, both unsure of how to move forward but venturing all the same, Nick made a single promise to himself.

No matter what happened, he was going to live this new life to its fullest. Not just him, but his friends as well.

Whether or not he needed to kill to do so.

...

'This system map fecking sucks!'

Nick swore internally as he found himself lost within the endless labyrinth of the city once again. According to Ugyr, Yck's new group was part of a middle-of-the-road clan called the White Tigers.

Apparently, most of their members were already in raids, leaving them with an odd group of 4.

If he could find the damn bastards, Nick was going to be the fifth.

'So where the hell are they!'

Another thing he learned from Ugyr was the fact that there were actually 4 places within the city one could find dungeon portals at. One in the center, one in the far right, one in the far left, and one in the middle of nowhere in the slums.

Should be pretty easy to tell which ones Yck chose.

'Damn bastard!'

With every dead end, Nick's sadism only grew. Even if he didn't have this quest he wanted to kill the man, if nothing else than just because he was annoying.

Of course, that rage was only similar to when someone cut a person off in traffic, or when somebody ate the last piece of cake that was saved specifically for you. When push comes to shove, he wasn't ACTUALLY going to kill Yck.

'Eh. Maybe I will.' Nick thought as he ran into another wall.

He was in the poor district, why the hell were there so many buildings? Don't they know how to be poor? Sit on the street and beg for coins.

Don't block a person's path just because they don't know how to use maps!

[Yck's team is going to find another member soon. Giving you the directions since you have negative amounts of spatial awareness]

Even as the marker appeared overhead, showing that they were just a block over on a street he had passed 80 times, Nick didn't feel any relief.

When the hell did his system get so much sass?
