Transmigrated to a Dark Fantasy World of SSS-Rank: King of the Void-Chapter 54: Going to Nemoria
’Death and tragedy...’ He stared at the window for a few moments, deep in thought. ’What’s the difference? Ever since I arrived, nothing but strange things have happened. The only good thing I had was... the time I spent with Ellegaard and Jeanne...’
Mitsuki thought he could endure what this title implied.
’Since then, everything has only gotten more complicated. I haven’t even stepped outside yet, but I can hear worried voices in the distance. It’s my fault, obviously. If I hadn’t appeared—killing the Master of Cinder in a way I don’t even remember—everything would still be the same. And maybe from now on, everything will keep going to hell, but I have the chance to change so I can face it.’
He looked at his hand, dismissing the window.
’Even so, I’m still me. I haven’t changed—change takes time. Like when you farm experience in a video game to keep getting stronger. That’s exactly what I need to do. And to achieve that, I have to go back to where it all began: Nemoria. If I gain the power the prophecy speaks of, I’ll be one step closer to becoming the potential destroyer of the world.’
With that in mind, gathering enough courage, Mitsuki prepared to leave his room and face the world—but he froze in front of the doorknob. His hand trembled, nervous, and his breathing became uneven.
’Yeah... I guess I’m just a loser... I can’t believe I’m afraid of going outside again... It’s been years. If it weren’t for the shadow, I never would’ve remembered anything about who I am, nor the story that led me here.’
He clenched his fist tightly, steeled himself, and flung the door open. On the other side stood Lulú, who dropped the sheets she was holding when the door suddenly burst open.
"M-Mitsuki? Good morning," she said, picking the sheets up from the floor.
"Good morning..." he replied, looking away to avoid meeting the girl’s eyes.
Lulú straightened up with a gentle smile.
"How are you feeling? You stayed inside all day, and I thought you might need someone to talk to."
Mitsuki shook his head.
"I’m fine. I just wanted to be alone for a while to heal my wounds."
"Your wounds? Oh—right! Miss Ellegaard beat you up and—"
"You didn’t have to remind me, but yeah. Anyway, I think the sheets are stained with blood. Do you think that’ll be a problem?"
"Not at all. Believe it or not, I can remove tough stains with magic, so you don’t have to feel guilty. Besides, it’s my job as the owner of this inn."
’The owner of the inn... Right, I haven’t seen anyone else here since I arrived. Does she run the whole business by herself?’
He felt like asking, but immediately backed down from the idea. Instead, he took out his coin pouch and said:
"I see... By the way, how much do I owe you for... you know, everything?"
"Oh, well... One week, with meals. Uh... that would be around twenty silver coins."
Mitsuki nodded, taking the coins out of the pouch. Fortunately, he still had quite a bit of money left, but he’d have to get more soon if he wanted to survive his upcoming journey.
"Here you go."
"Thank you, but why are you paying me now? You could do it when you leave—" She fell silent, realizing Mitsuki was leaving right then. "Where are you going?"
Mitsuki’s expression turned somewhat gloomy, but in a calm tone, he said:
"I’m going away for a while. I probably won’t come back. Right now, I need to go to the guild to get equipment and some kind of transportation because I’m heading to Nemoria."
"W-What? But Miss Ellegaard said—"
"It doesn’t matter," Mitsuki said, turning his back to her and walking down the hallway toward the stairs, but he stopped halfway. "I know she doesn’t want me to go because I could be killed easily, and she’s right. She is right, but... what about what I think? What if I want to go? No one can deny my autonomy—not Ellegaard, not Jeanne, not even death."
Without another word, Mitsuki went down the stairs, leaving Lulú stunned.
"What happened to him...?"
Mitsuki had always been distant. He still was, but in a much darker way now, as if a part of him had been shattered into pieces, only to be rebuilt by pain in the darkness.
"And his hair... Was it purple?"
***
He left the establishment in a hurry. The eyes watching him in the sunset were suffocating—they disgusted him—but as usual, he kept his gaze on the ground to avoid them. Some people looked at him strangely, since the purple tips of his hair weren’t common in this world.
Maybe in his original world this was normal, but for the people here, it didn’t work that way.
’Some parts of me have changed, but I guess my hair is the most noticeable. If I hadn’t seen myself reflected in the restaurant window, I wouldn’t have noticed. Maybe I’m just still distracted, thinking about everything I have to do.’
He was already standing in front of the guild. Those sturdy walls were what always stood out on a street full of clean, orderly businesses.
He thought about it a couple of times before going in. The people inside were much more hostile, so he had to be ready for anything. And so, he took a step forward, walking straight into the lion’s den.
Soon, he was met with the cold stares of several adventurers. There were still orcs, elves, and demi-humans with animal ears and tails. Humans, of course, were also present—and in a rather strange way, they were the most annoying ones there.
Maya saw him enter and waved at him, showing her usual awkwardness.
Nervous, Mitsuki approached her.
"Hi... How are you? How can I help you?"
His voice trembled before he spoke. "Uh... um... I wanted to know if the guild has any kind of transportation or a way for me to get somewhere faster."
"I’m sorry, adventurer. We don’t offer that kind of service. If you want to travel, you’ll need to do so with someone who specializes in it. There’s a travel agency, but it’s very expensive. It’s cheaper to buy a second-hand carriage and go on your own than to pay for the service."
"I see..."
That was a problem. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
’I can’t fall behind. I need to hurry.’ He lowered his head, disappointed, but at that moment, a loud bang echoed.
A familiar man’s voice rang throughout the guild.
"What do you mean the Witch and the Madwoman went to Nemoria? Are they trying to hog all the treasure?"
Mitsuki turned around, realizing that person was Blondie.
