Transmigrated To A Beastworld As The Lazy Wife Of The Fox Lord-Chapter 35: Another cold one.
There was joy in the air, and Sienna was not the only one experiencing it. All the servants and guards that followed her had already forgotten their former residence. There was something quite beautiful and peaceful in their new seaside residence. The fact that their arrival coincided with the setting of the sun made it all the more mesmerizing.
The first cottage that was nearest to the winding path from the cliffs was the very first thing everyone saw on arrival. Its windows blinked with warm lamplight. The real estate company had been hard at work, preparing the area for Sienna’s move. They had cleared the oath, placed flower boxes of lavender and wild geraniums along the way.
A path behind it was planted with a rose walk way, leading to the steps for the biggest and second cottage. Ivy clung to its walls like secrets. The garden there was bigger and wilder, with tall grasses and pale moon flowers. It watched the sea from the highest perch like a night watchman. It had six bedrooms, and it was the one Sienna intended to live in with her family.
The third, to the right, had a deck that stretched towards the waves, providing a shade on the shores. It’s porch faced the ocean directly, and a pair of wooden rocking chairs sat empty, waiting for someone to return and enjoy their softness. That cottage also had six bedrooms, which would be divided among the servants.
Between the cottages, ran stone paths, softened by moss and memories of past residents.
"Beautiful, very pretty." Ali screamed.
Everyone agreed with her. It was beautiful. So much so that it brought tears to her old nanny’s eyes.
As soon as the ship’s walkway was lowered, the little girl almost went flying down, in a hurry to reach the beach and play in the water. Two servants, one nanny and three guards raced after her.
"Go with them," Sienna told Soren. "You are her uncle you know. You should get used to babysitting her sometimes. Don’t let go too deep in the water."
With as much excitement as Ali, Soren also raced down the walkway.
Shalin, vibrating with joy, approached Sienna from behind, "My lady, you chose well. This place is much better than the estate. It smells like freedom."
Sienna laughed. "Because, it is freedom. No mother-in-law, no...."
A group of servants at the back laughed loudly, Shalin and Kroton as well.
"What is funny?" Sienna asked with a smiled.
Shalin replied freely, "My lady, when you said that, we all thought about the morning of the oat meal incident. You scrolled through house listings and loudly declared how you had found a new residence and there was no mother-in-law! Lady Cadelaria turned so many shades of red that we thought she would explode."
A young crow beast woman added with a giggle, "we didn’t think you would seriously move out. Your love for Lord Elias is bigger than the sky."
Sienna looked up and shook her head. "Not that big." she muttered. It was as small as the pebbles on the beach. She smiled and clapped her hands. "We should move the luggage first and admire the view tomorrow." 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
She stepped off the ship after, her booths crunching against the gravel path. Behind her, two guards followed, a mixture of beast men with sharp eyes and weapons at their waists.
Next came the single bear beast man, who was another guard. He was carrying her mother who remained asleep, sedated and swaddled in blankets. Just to tease her mom later, she snapped a picture.
As she put her phone away, she finally saw the caretaker.
He stood at the edge of the path, where lavender met stone, his posture straight and his expression unreadable. He was a wolf beast man, just like she had been told. He was tall and lean, with curly haired ears that twitched at the sounds of approaching footsteps. His eyes were the color of sea-washed-silver. Not too bright, but not too dull. They were cool, distant and gave her a feeling that was too familiar.
Sienna felt the echo of Elias’s coldness in the way the caretaker carried himself. In the way he did not smile at his new boss.
Still, he bowed when she reached him.
"Welcome, Lady Veythar," he said, low and precise. "I am Geo. I was told that you were informed about me. I maintain the property." he looked back, "well, it was one property before but now it is practically an estate. Would you like to keep on as caretaker for all of it? I don’t need a salary."
Sienna nodded, unsure of whether to shake his hand as he did not extend his.
"Mama...." a fox cub screamed and launched herself at Sienna’s legs. "Look what I found?" she asked, breathing deeply.
Ali put the snail shell in Sienna’s hands and ran off to inspect the flower beds.
"If you don’t mind, I will show you around," Geo continued as if nothing had happened. "If you’d like, of course."
"Yes," she said, "Please."
Shalin was already taking charge, because Sienna had already told her about the accommodations. This left Sienna with Kroton, two servants and two guards. They followed Geo, who walked at Sienna’s side, his stride measured.
He pointed out the paths, told her the history of the cottages. Coincidentally, all the land there once belonged to his family. He took her to the orchard which was lush with fruits and they stopped by the swings under a grove of half hidden trees.
They stopped by the cellars and storage areas.
"No one’s lived here in a long time," Geo said, almost to himself. "The war between the wolf beast men and mer beast men a century ago resulted in the entire area being abandoned. With all the development in the inner cities, nobody is eager to live in such places anymore. It is good to see it occupied again."
Sienna glanced at him. "You’ve been here alone for a long time. Doesn’t it get lonely?"
He smiled. "A man that seeks solitude does not need company."
She knew there was a story but she did not press. The silence between then was taut but not hostile. As they visited the stables which had only one horse, she asked, "Do you have any demons in your past that I should worry about? I plan to live here until I die. My family needs to be safe."
"You will be safe." he smiled. "No demons."
Ali ran up to her with a fistful of daisies. Most had been crushed somehow in her hands. "Mama, I brought you disies."
"Daisies," Sienna corrected her, taking the flowers with a wide grin. "Thank you Ali. Mama loves them."
Ali ran off shouting, "Mama, I will bring more disies. And the candy smelling flowers."
Geo winced. He could already foresee a disastrous fate for the flowers he had always tended to carefully. "She is talking about sugar blooms. The candy smelling flowers."
Sienna laughed. "Then, she called them by the right name. Can I eat them?"
Like a magician, Geo produced a piece of home made candy, handing it to Sienna.
One of the guards snapped a picture. There was an unrelated fox beast man on the property that would be living near the lady and seducing her with candy! This was information the fox lord needed to know.
