Transmigrated into Another Apocalyptic World (BL)-Chapter 536 - 535: Reaching the first base southwards 2
People’s minds couldn’t be underestimated, so they couldn’t just hand over the letters and phones that they have even though they still have a lot of copies. And, they certainly don’t want their things to be used for something else, so they had to be careful from the beginning.
After waiting for a few minutes, the man who talked to them finally came back with someone who was probably their leader.
Since the leader finally came back, Treyton, Yang, and Zam finally came out of their RV to talk to them.
As for Luciel and the others, they just stayed inside the RV but still listened to the conversation outside.
"Hello, I heard that you guys are from the North Base. I’m the current leader of this base."
"I’m Treyton, the person in charge of this mission from the North Base."
"Nice to meet you. Is it true that the North Base had already solved the problems with the communication signals?"
"The North Base has indeed found a way to reestablish long-distance communication again.
If you have doubts, you can check the letter that we brought along with a video as proof.
If you believe it, then we can continue talking about the reestablishment of long-distance communication," Treyton said and signaled Yang to give the letter and play the video again for the leader of the base.
The leader read the letter first and then played the first video that they had.
"It was indeed Commander Omar; I still recognize him from the news before. However, are you guys really from the North Base?" the leader said.
"If you still have doubts, then please check the second video that we have," Yang said and then played the second video.
After watching it, the leader finally said, "I’m sorry for doubting you guys. Please come with me so that we can talk about the reestablishment of communication that the North Base offered."
"That’s understandable. Then let’s talk again later," Treyton said and entered the RV again, as they were going to enter the base to follow the leader and the man who greeted them at the beginning.
When they entered, they saw that the car of the base leader was actually left at the entrance, so they just followed their car and arrived in front of a four-story building with a very wide parking space.
Treyton and the others went down again, and this time Luciel also followed; he had been in their car for a long time, so he wanted to go out a bit, and he was also interested in the reaction of the leader and the people inside the base because of the reestablishment of communication.
After seeing them get out, the leader guided them inside the building until they reached the second floor, which was apparently the place where they could hold meetings.
When they were finally seated, the leader of the base asked about the reestablishment of communication again. Treyton let Yang and Aldo explain what the North Base wanted and its limitations.
"Even though it’s limited for communicating updates and for emergencies, it’s still very helpful!" the leader said with obvious happiness.
"However, do we need to pay something for it? I understand that it might have been a difficult task to do such a thing, and it might have used a lot of materials and manpower, especially in times like this. If we really have to pay something then—" the leader said with a hesitant expression. 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
Seeing the leader’s expression, Yang immediately explained that they don’t have to pay anything for it, as the North Base is just doing its job as one of the military bases from before.
Yang also said that the North Base would probably ask them to watch over the cell tower that was near them to be sure that those cell towers weren’t destroyed, as it would impair their communication lines again.
Then, he also explained that they were the first base that they had stopped by and would continue going south as they were the people responsible for it, while other teams and soldiers were also responsible for the reestablishment of communication in other directions.
After hearing that they wouldn’t pay anything and they would only have to go and check the cell tower every now and then, the leader became happy again.
Then the leader even asked if their base could also have their own internal communication system so that they could have a more convenient way to communicate with others just like before the apocalypse arrived.
Since the leader was interested in it, Aldo explained what they needed and said that as long as they have enough materials and power, then they could certainly tell them what to do. Samuel also helped in listing what they would need and how much electricity they would need to have to let it continue running.
As soon as the leader heard about the materials and the amount of electricity that it would consume everyday, he immediately said that they would do it in the future if they really had enough materials for the small towers that they could use in their base.
The leader also immediately said that he would surely only use it to send proper updates and receive information from others.
From the state of the leader, who immediately changed his tone after hearing the possible cost of things, it was obvious that their base was poor.
Well, when they entered, Luciel already knew that the base wasn’t wealthy at all. The state of the buildings and the state of the people inside were obvious enough that they didn’t have much.
Even though the people weren’t starving yet, he had also seen that there were a lot of unmotivated people that were just sitting in some corners. And a lot of the people in the base also didn’t seem to be that energetic, and the atmosphere was still tinged with heaviness and depression, which really makes it very clear that they’re in a chaotic world with a lack of resources.
