Transmigrated Genius: Fragile Heiress Reigns Supreme-Chapter 468 - 471: The Delicate Guest (3)
"All right, all right," Xiao Yanzheng interrupted them. "It’s getting late, and if we don’t go back, Grandmother will be worried." As he spoke, he pulled Sheng along and said, "Look at you, all covered in dirt, and your little hands are frozen like dumplings. Hurry and wash your hands; it’s time for dinner."
Xing reluctantly looked at the table full of clay dolls, while Sheng said, "Let’s play a little longer. This is even more fun than making kites with the teacher." He paused and added, "Aunt Suqing, you’re amazing!"
Hu Suqing smiled at him, "Aunt knows many things."
Xiao Yanzheng, however, took Sheng’s small hand and said, "Miss Hu has been shaping clay all afternoon, she’s tired. Even if you don’t want to rest, you should let her have a break."
Sheng thought for a moment, then stood up, grinning at Hu Suqing, "Aunt Suqing, will you come to our house again tomorrow?"
Hu Suqing sat on a stone stool covered with a rug, her face already pale, sweat on her forehead. She smiled and nodded, "Whatever you want, Aunt will make it today, but Aunt may not come tomorrow."
Sheng showed a disappointed look, "Then why not stay at our house, that way we can have clay dolls every day."
Xing also nodded.
Xiao Yanzheng did not open his mouth to invite her to stay, but Hu Suqing shook her head with a smile, "Aunt Suqing needs to go home, I’ll visit you another day, okay?"
As she spoke, she leaned on the table to stand up...
Unexpectedly, her vision turned black, and she fell backward.
Xiao Yanzheng was shocked and hurriedly reached out to catch her, "Miss Hu, Miss Hu!" She turned to Hu Suqing’s maid beside her and asked, "What’s wrong with her? Could she be sick?"
If she got sick at their house, it would be hard to explain.
Hu Suqing’s maid was terrified and said, "I... I don’t know."
"Useless," Xiao Yanzheng said irritably, frowning, "Help her inside to lie down." She then turned to her own maid and instructed, "Go call the Imperial Physician."
The children were scared stiff, each looking bewildered at the others, and Sheng ran off, shouting as he went, "I’m going to tell Grandmother!"
Xiao Yanzheng wanted to pull him back, but couldn’t.
The Grand Dowager was in her room talking to the Second Madam, "Tong Xihua’s memorial day is coming. This year, let’s handle it as we did last year, inviting Master Puning to our house for a few days to conduct rites."
The Second Madam agreed with a smile, "Someone has already been sent to invite Master Puning and arrange the time; all the paper money and related items are ready."
The Grand Dowager nodded in satisfaction and said, "Thank you for your hard work."
The Second Madam cozily smiled at the Grand Dowager, "It’s my duty, no hard work."
"Grandmother, Grandmother!" Sheng burst in, his little face pale with fright. The Grand Dowager saw the muddy spots all over him and frowned, "What’s happened, you’re all covered in mud." She said, her gaze sharp as an arrow toward the nanny and maid following Sheng.
"It’s nothing," Sheng didn’t care about himself, pulling at the Grand Dowager’s sleeve with dirty hands, shaking it and saying, "Aunt Suqing... Aunt fell."
The Grand Dowager was stunned, exchanged a glance with the Second Madam, and asked Sheng, "What do you mean, fell?"
"It’s... Miss Hu fainted," Sheng’s nanny explained.
The Grand Dowager furrowed her brow, her voice cold, "How did she faint? She was fine when she came."
Sheng naturally didn’t know how to respond, so his nanny answered for him, "It seems she was exhausted," she said, explaining how Hu Suqing had been making clay dolls with the children all afternoon.
The Grand Dowager furrowed her brows, wanting to scold Sheng, but thinking he wouldn’t understand, she commanded sternly, "Go to the outer courtyard and have Housekeeper Hu take a card to the palace to invite the Imperial Physician."
The Second Madam comforted the Grand Dowager, "She’s always been in poor health; maybe she’s just tired."
The Grand Dowager listened, nodded, and said no more.
After a while, the Imperial Physician arrived, and after checking Hu Suqing’s pulse, went to the Grand Dowager’s room to report, "The girl should have a specialist doctor see her condition; it’s not severe now, but perhaps it needs to be checked by her previous doctor first. Specifically, I dare not exaggerate."
As long as there’s no danger, the Grand Dowager had Nanny Wu see the Imperial Physician out.
The Second Madam mentioned Ruan Jingliu, "Hasn’t it always been her looking after her? Just have someone invite her over to the house." She paused and sighed, "She’s in our house; she shouldn’t have any problems."
The Grand Dowager remained noncommittal, pondering for a moment, then instructed Ziwei, "Send someone to Qiantang Alley to see if Nurse Zhang is there and invite her to the mansion." She paused and added, "Explain the situation to her in detail."
Ziwei agreed, took the card, and headed to the outer courtyard.
Xiqiu knew about Hu Suqing’s incident when Min returned, seeing his clothes stained with mud. She asked him in surprise, "Why are you so dirty? Did you go out to play with the teacher?"
Min hung his head, shook it, and said, "No, I was playing at Aunt’s place." He paused and added, "Aunt Suqing made clay dolls for us."
Xiqiu raised her eyebrows; she had heard in the morning that Hu Suqing had come, so she instructed Dongling beside Min, "Take him to wash up and change his clothes." Then she told Min, "We’ll have dinner when your father returns."
Min obediently agreed.
Once Min changed into clean clothes and came out, Tianyi arrived, reporting, "Fourth Master was invited to dine in the palace by the Emperor; he’ll be back later, saying Madam shouldn’t wait."
"Understood!" Xiqiu smiled and nodded, then turned to Min, "Let’s go have dinner."
They quietly ate their meal, Xiqiu and Min sat together on the kang in the Warm Pavilion. Min brought the homework assigned by the teacher, sat cross-legged, carefully practicing his calligraphy stroke by stroke, while Xiqiu absentmindedly flipped through a book across from him. After a while, Min put down his pen, looking at Xiqiu. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
Xiqiu put down her book and asked, "What’s the matter? Is there something you don’t understand?"
"No!" Min tilted his head, thoughtful, "Mother, in a few days it will be Xin’s mother’s memorial day. Xin said he wants to make a gift for his mother..." He paused, revealing a nervous expression, "What would be appropriate to give?"
Xiqiu was surprised to hear this; she hadn’t expected the children to have such thoughts. Thinking about gifting Tong Xihua, she thought for a moment and replied, "Tell Xing that he’s still young. As long as he remembers his mother in his heart, that’s enough; he can give gifts when he’s older!"
After all, there was still the Second Madam in the house; if Xing made too much effort, even if she didn’t show anything outwardly, she would surely feel uncomfortable inside.
Min seemed thoughtful, understanding only partially, nodded, and said no more.
"Min," Xiqiu asked with a smile, "Do you and Xing often visit his mother’s courtyard where she stayed before?"
