Transmigrated as the Villain Boss's Precious Darling-Chapter 98: A Honeyed Mouth, a Sword in the Belly
"She’s always dizzy. The last time she was pouring boiling water, she fainted and nearly scalded herself," Amanda Chapman revealed, deciding to hold nothing back. She was ready to risk it all.
Her heart ached for her mother, and she was furious at the selfishness of her grandfather, grandmother, and father. Today, she was determined to expose her grandmother’s true colors.
"Goodness, dizziness is no small thing. Why didn’t your mother go to the hospital sooner for a check-up? This could be fatal!"
A neighbor with a little medical knowledge could tell right away that Phoebe Thorne’s condition was serious. For a pregnant woman, dizziness and vertigo could indeed be life-threatening.
Amanda Chapman’s eyes turned red as she choked back a sob. "Mom has to work every single day. She doesn’t have time. It was my uncle who insisted on taking her today."
"Why didn’t your mom tell me? I didn’t know anything about this."
Mrs. Chapman, snapping back to reality, was furious. ’My reputation as a kind mother-in-law, which I worked so hard to build, was almost destroyed today! It’s all that damn girl’s fault. I’ll have a word with my son later. We can’t let the Thorne family visit anymore.’
’Even if they come to drop things off, they won’t be allowed to stay and eat. Just leave the things and get out. I get furious just looking at that den of bandits.’
Tang Xiaonan sneered inwardly. ’Here she goes with her act again.’
"Mom told you several times, but you said pregnant women aren’t that delicate," Amanda Chapman retorted, repeating Mrs. Chapman’s exact words with a hint of hatred in her voice.
"I’ll beat you to death, you damn brat! When did I ever say such a thing? Your mother never mentioned it to me... you little liar..." Mrs. Chapman grabbed a feather duster and swung it at her. Amanda Chapman ducked behind a neighbor, crying and shouting, "Mom told you several times, and you said the exact same thing every time!"
The neighbor blocked the furious Mrs. Chapman, shaking her head discreetly. She now saw Mrs. Chapman’s true colors.
’This must be what they mean by "a honeyed tongue and a heart of daggers." No wonder Phoebe Thorne is busy from dawn till dusk and never seems to get a break. And to think Mrs. Chapman tells everyone her daughter-in-law is just being filial, that she can’t bear to let her mother-in-law do any work. What a cruel woman. She doesn’t even treat her daughter-in-law like a person.’
"Patrick... Aunt Phoebe is so miserable... Can we please take her home with us?" Tang Xiaonan said, her voice thick with tears.
"Of course we’re taking her home."
Patrick Thorne was furious. ’Back when his aunt was still unmarried, she had been cherished by the Thorne family. But after marrying into this family, she was being tormented by this old hag. Damn it all! We’re not going to put up with this anymore!’
"And Amanda, too."
Tang Xiaonan hadn’t forgotten Amanda Chapman. ’My cousin just exposed so many of the old hag’s failings; if we leave her behind, she’ll surely be beaten and scolded. It’s better to take her with us.’
Amanda Chapman looked at Tang Xiaonan gratefully, a warm feeling spreading through her chest. ’Even though my cousin is a little lazy and a little dense, she has a really good heart.’
"We’re taking them both back. We’re done waiting on this old witch."
Patrick Thorne picked up Tang Xiaonan, took Amanda Chapman’s hand, and shouted at Mr. and Mrs. Chapman, "This isn’t over! My dad will be here to settle this with you!" 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
’He was just a kid, so his words carried no weight. He had to get Felix Thorne to come handle this.’
The neighbors jumped in alarm. Things were really blowing up now. They had seen Felix Thorne a few times before—his ferocious appearance was more intimidating than a guardian spirit’s. They’d heard he was a butcher, the kind of fearsome character that even a plague god wouldn’t dare to cross. The Chapman family was in big trouble now.
A chill ran down Mrs. Chapman’s spine. She finally felt a pang of regret.
’If that bandit chieftain, Felix Thorne, really showed up, her entire family wouldn’t be able to handle him!’
’Oh, for heaven’s sake... We never should have married our son to that bandit woman, Phoebe Thorne!’
"Amanda, you get back here! If you dare to leave, then don’t ever come back!" Mrs. Chapman shouted, running after them.
’If her granddaughter leaves, who’s going to do all the work?’
"We won’t come back, then! My cousin will live with us."
Tang Xiaonan didn’t back down an inch. Amanda Chapman had hesitated for a moment, but her cousin’s words strengthened her resolve. ’As long as my uncle and aunt are willing to feed me, I’ll be fine. I can do any kind of work, and that’s much better than being treated with contempt at home.’
