Chapter 237: The Meeting In Helheim [ 1 ]

[Amon’s POV]

"Hmm~"

As I stared at the painting on the wall, I nodded to myself in satisfaction.

Then, I walked over to the door and stepped outside. Since our home was still intact, Clementine was just idling by in the living room, reading one of her mangas.

Granted, there were some problems with the structural damage and stuff, but with a little touch of my Telekinesis and Atomic Stabilization, I managed to fix it all.

On another note, today was the day the meeting was going to start.

Yesterday, while Clementine and I were sleeping, I got some kind of weird wave of energy in my mind. Aside from a location, there was nothing else.

But a location was enough for me, since I already knew why I got it in the first place.

Just then, Clementine lifted her eyes off her manga and glanced over at me, a slight pout on her face.

"Are you sure you don’t want me to come along?"

"I’m sure. You have basically nothing to do with the demons. Just because you’re dating someone who’s like a demon doesn’t really give you the same leeway, you know? I’m afraid you’re going to get targeted there," I replied.

Then, I approached her and sat down beside her.

"Besides, I’ve been practicing, you know? I learned Atomic Anchoring."

In short, I’d freeze my own atoms, and no one else would be able to move or excite them. By that logic, I was now immune to every kind of Gift or ability that would try to manipulate my body, whether it was Telekinesis or something else.

The only way they’d really be able to bypass me is if their energy reserves were at least double mine. But unless they were a Grade 80 being, that shouldn’t be possible.

Closing her manga, Clementine leaned her head on my chest and exhaled an uneasy breath. She didn’t say anything, but I already knew what she was feeling. I was feeling the same.

"I promise I’ll come back. But until then, you also got some work to do, you know?"

She pouted slightly.

"I know... But do I really need to do this? Why is Evelyn so important?"

"Because she’s good at convincing people to do immoral things," I replied.

"I’m pretty sure she should be waiting inside the Heirloom Kingdom. I only need you to protect her. Remember what I told you about the emperor?"

She grumbled.

"He has an artifact that lets him turn back time a few hours, and he can use it ten times per day. He’s weak without it..."

I let out a chuckle.

He might be weak without it, but that artifact would come in handy.

In truth, he doesn’t really turn back the time of the whole world. It’s more like a large radius. As it so happens, the radius is just large enough to encompass his whole kingdom. Basically, if Clementine can toss Evelyn inside the throne room and she has a talk with the emperor, I was sure these two girls would make the best out of it.

But then again...

"The world’s still pretty much in ruins. The Western Continent wasn’t hit as hard, since they have the Holy Order protecting them. I think Elodrenia was hit the hardest, since all their strong people were training in solitude."

The Skyward continent wasn’t hit that hard. Sure, Lenice was wiped out in an instant, but the cities and towns were really~ far apart from each other. Since everything was so spread apart, the powerful people had more time to react.

Still... Some places like the Heirloom Kingdom were in good hands, so they didn’t suffer even a single loss since the emperor just turned back time, killed all the people who would turn into demons, and then just went about his day, offering a safe haven to other survivors.

But I needed that safe haven for myself, and the faster I could get it, the faster I could set up an impenetrable base that could hold back even Demon Kings.

I smiled slightly and brushed her hair. I really wanted to propose to her before all of this happened, but it seems like I’ll just have to do it next week.

***

A few hours went by as the two of us just cuddled in each other’s embrace. Though eventually, I gave Clementine a deep kiss and separated. With a reluctant look, I approached the door, opened it, and after giving her a warm smile, I left.

Despite our hut being untouched, some trees were toppled, and our waterfall wasn’t as clear as before. We’ll need to move very soon, and I was thinking that the Western continent might be a good option.

I’ll have to discuss it with her later... Only after I marry her though.

With that in mind, I flipped open the enchanting book and began memorizing the text bit by bit. All the while, I was making my way toward the Western Continent.

On the very northern tip of the Western Continent was a country controlled entirely by demons. They had several portals leading straight to the Demon Realm there, and they had been there even before the descent of the demons.

The only reason no one really tried to do anything was simple.

With 84 Demon Kings being active, no one could really oppose them, could they? There wasn’t a force in this world powerful enough to do anything to them.

And it was even worse because of how replaceable the Demon Kings were. If one were to die, they’d just pick a Demon Prince between Grade 60 and 70 and offer him the blood of the fallen Demon King.

They’d basically take the mantle... And the only real way of killing one of them was by destroying their bodies completely, which was pretty much impossible, since they had vials of their blood stored everywhere.

They were basically immortal.

Flipping over to the next page, I descended slightly below the clouds. I was above the ocean, and as expected, there were hundreds of gargoyles and all sorts of other demonic creatures flying around. They were all so weak, but their numbers made them annoying to deal with.

So I didn’t even try.

Instead, I went back up above the clouds, and while reading the enchanting manual, I slowly made my way to the north of the Western Continent.

To the country of Lavos.
