Chapter 149: Sword Training [ 8 ]

Bearing through the pain in my abdomen, I held my hat and shifted my body midair, perfectly catching myself on the wall and staring down at her.

Her eyes widened slightly.

But then, a massive grin appeared on her face as she once again blasted off the ground and aimed for my chest.

However, instead of letting her hit me like before, I firmly gripped the wooden sword and slashed it down on her fist.

Even if I wasn’t using any energy, my strength stat was miles above hers.

And so...

CRACK!

Her wrist snapped as she suddenly skidded across the ground and slammed against the opposite wall, the impact making her lose consciousness.

I stared at her for a moment and noticed the blood pooling under her.

I thought I accidentally killed her.

But my Blood Sight assured me she was fine, just really injured.

Jumping back down and dusting myself off, I approached the rest of the group.

By now, they were trying their best to not even move a muscle, thinking that I might just kill them.

I quickly scanned the group and turned toward the old man with surprisingly thick and bushy brows.

"You. If you’re not an idiot, take your group and leave."

He narrowed his eyes.

"Is it really that serious, young man? I understand you’re upset, but believe me... If we go back empty handed, we’re better off dying here."

Ah...

With the words he just said... it seemed like it really did come to this, didn’t it?

If I let them go now, they’d just gather reinforcements and come back.

Finding someone suspicious claiming to live here... This place would be exposed to a lot of unwanted visitors.

And since I wanted to avoid exposing Aliyah’s and Eric’s whereabouts, this put me at a line I never expected to willingly cross.

I took a deep breath and raised my sword, ready to bring it down.

But before I could, I felt someone tap the tip of my blade, and when I glanced back, I realized Clementine had arrived.

"Don’t worry, leave it all to me."

With a smile, she stepped past me and dragged every single one of the treasure hunters together, including the elf whom Clementine had forcefully woken up.

And then, she raised her arms dramatically and snapped her fingers before finally lowering her hands and pointing at her eyes.

Before any one of them could even react, a barely noticeable wave of energy washed over them, causing the eyes of every single treasure hunter to turn cloudy.

"Drop all the materials you’ve gathered here, forget you saw us, and forget the path you took. Rather... If there’s any public knowledge of this path, get rid of it, and then forget this path."

They nodded like lifeless puppets, then tossed out every resource they gathered here and began wobbling away.

Within just a few minutes, they were gone.

"...Phew. That was close, wasn’t it?" Clementine chuckled.

"Yeah. If you hadn’t been here, I would’ve had to kill them."

She hummed and approached me.

"Thankfully I was here then. Anyways, let’s head back. I phased around and found another underground waterfall. It looks really nice and I want you to see it."

Hearing her warm words, I felt more at ease.

But at the same time...

"Clementine, if I ever do cross the line, would you forgive me?"

"Hmm... If you ever cross the line, I’ll cross it with you. I stopped caring about other people. I only care about you and my parents, so I wouldn’t feel guilty or..."

She trailed off, and it looked like she didn’t know how to finish her sentence.

So instead, she just smiled at me.

"Let’s go back?"

"...Okay."

***

The week flew by in the blink of an eye.

I spent most of my days training swordsmanship and hanging out with Clementine.

At the three week mark, it seemed like she finally finished enhancing all her Soul Weapons.

And now, aside from hanging out with me, she spent all her time memorizing every line in the beginner enchanting book, fully prepared to surpass me.

Also, the underground waterfall she wanted to show me didn’t have any actual entrances, and since I couldn’t phase like her, I sadly couldn’t see it with her.

One option would be to feel her energy and use my Mystic Eyes to track her, then teleport down there.

But since I had promised to not use any of my energy or Gifts for the whole month, I decided to stick to that promise.

Anyhow, as I was in the middle of swinging my sword against the wall, I suddenly felt a powerful wave of energy approach, and I didn’t need to turn toward it to know who it was.

SWOOOOOOSH~

The strong wind blew against me, followed by an annoyed voice belonging to Aliyah.

"It turns out everything you said was the truth."

"Is that so..."

I turned to her and raised my brow.

"What’s up? You seem a little pissed off."

She clicked her tongue.

"I wracked my brain with my friend over what to do with you two."

"For starters, the Holy Order has put a bounty of 500,000,000 Crowns each on your heads. The Vermillions matched that bounty. In total, your bounties are at 650,000,000 Crowns each. Oh, they’ve also found out you’re Amon and Clementine, so that’s that."

"..."

Pardon?

I felt like my brain just kind of stopped for a second there.

Because there’s no way she just said that we had the annual income of the whole Elodrenia continent on our heads, right...?

Staring at her face, I realized that she actually wasn’t kidding.

"I-I get the feeling that there’s more you want to tell me."

Her brow twitched.

"I paid a visit to the Holy Order’s headquarters and spoke with the five Popes about clearing your names. They owed me favors because of what I had done in the past for this continent, but even then, after taking their sweet time, they denied my request and ordered me to hand you over."

Oh boy.

"...And?"

She crossed her arms and scoffed.

"And I told them to fuck off before accidentally destroying their precious cathedral, and accidentally stealing all their sacred artifacts, as well as accidentally breaking into their armory and stealing all their swordsmanship techniques."

O-Oh.

Although I had a feeling she didn’t do it just because of us, one thing became very, very clear now.

...We are absolutely fucked.
