Chapter 127: The Harper Citadel Arc [ 9 ]

"Bye~ I’ll be back soon!"

With those words, Clementine shut the door and ran downstairs before swiftly heading to the cathedral.

As for me, I stared at the door for a few brief moments, then walked to the bed and sat down.

While she was taking a shower and getting ready, I had a lot of time to think.

And if my suspicions were correct, Kai was the one responsible for all the times the demons miraculously appeared and attacked the cathedral.

After all, what if instead of appearing, they were created as demons instead?

Shaking my head in annoyance, I quickly glanced over at my status screen.

Despite my constant usage, my Mystic Eyes were still level 19.

But now that Clementine was gone, I planned on pushing them to their absolute limits.

And so, when I closed my status screen, I took a few deep breaths, and then used my Mystic Eyes of Perception.

There were several trails of energy scattered around my room, so I followed one of them until I was outside of the inn.

Then, I followed the traces that led directly to the building where we interrogated Vincent.

As expected, the energy was scrambled in this area, and it was likely Kai’s doing.

Every time I tried to get through it, I was pushed back.

But I had a bunch of energy for a reason.

It would be stupid of me to not use it.

So for the first time ever, I decided to infuse energy directly into my eyes.

The reason I didn’t use it before is simple...

POP!

A loud pop resounded as my vision turned pitch black.

Sharp pain shot through my face as I felt warm liquid stream down my face, onto my chest, and lastly, stain the bedsheets.

I gripped the bedsheets and closed my eyelids, then for a brief moment, I activated the Wrath Transformation.

A few minutes passed silently, and I finally turned off the Wrath Transformation.

I slowly reopened my eyelids, and thankfully, I could see again.

Yet as I glanced around, I saw that my clothes and even the bed were stained in blood. There were also a few pieces of my eyes stuck to my arms, which I carefully lifted with Telekinesis and threw inside my dimensional ring.

I took a shaky breath.

The reason why I never infused energy into my eyes is because my eyes become overloaded and then explode.

I had tried it before, except I only used a bit of energy.

Once I felt my eyes hurt, I stopped.

But I also knew that if I could figure this out, I should be able to forcefully pass over the hurdle that is Kai’s energy.

And that’s also the reason why I was so insistent on Clementine leaving.

Since the only way I can achieve what I need is through repetition.

I need to explode my eyes over and over...

And over again.

"..."

I took a few moments for myself.

Then, once I felt like I was ready, I closed my eyes and began practicing once again...

Within just a few hours, the room was a total mess.

Blood... eyes, and whatever else flew out of my head were scattered around, and I was thankful that I had covered this whole room in Telekinesis.

With the snap of my finger, all the blood and eyes lifted off the ground, swirled around in the air, and then eventually flew into my dimensional ring.

After that, I changed clothes, and when I glanced around, it seemed like nothing had happened.

But something did happen.

And that something was very fruitful.

In the end, every time my eyes regenerated, they became sturdier than before.

And after 50+ times of exploding them and covering them in Atomic Stabilization, I could finally endure energy coursing through my eyes while using my Mystic Eyes of Perception.

I was happy with the progress, and so I narrowed my eyes, focusing on the distant energy trace of Kai.

It pushed me back a little.

But by infusing energy into my eyes, I was able to practically drill a hole through Kai’s energy and peer inside.

There wasn’t anything special inside, aside from Vincent’s energy.

But his energy was precisely what I had been looking for.

I had tried tracking his energy in the inn... but it was already erased.

Nonetheless, now that I got what I was looking for, I focused on his energy, and then saw a long path light up across the citadel and beyond.

I followed the path with a smile, passing through the Harper Citadel in the blink of an eye and entering the path where all the carriages traveled.

It was a very irrational path, and it was clear that Vincent had been with Kai all this time.

And it was also clear Kai had intentionally taken detours to merge with the other carriages so he’d arrive at the same time as the others.

I went back further, reaching the railroad and going past the train.

It seemed like the Holy Order had come through and begun salvaging the train, fixing it.

At least this continent’s response was fast.

In just a few more minutes, I was back in the port city Kurenia.

It seemed like Kai and Vincent were here at the same time as us.

For a moment, I thought that this would be the end of it, since I faced some limits the last time I tried to look this far away.

But as I continued tracing Vincent out of Kurenia to the southern part of the Western continent, a neighboring village, city... I realized there were no traces of a limit.

For the next hour, I traced Vincent’s energy until finally, I arrived at a small town of Ceros in the southeastern part of the Western continent.

There were more churches than houses.

A few shops, and even an academy...

It seemed normal at first.

But taking one good look around, I realized just how empty this place was.

Every door was open, including the doors of the academy.

Yet not a single trace of energy belonging to anyone aside from Vincent and another much weaker energy.

Since I felt like my energy was running out, I made this brief.

I glanced around the areas where Vincent’s energy was most present, and finally located a house on the outskirts of town.

Its doors were closed.

But this was also the place where the other energy aside from Vincent’s seemed to go.

Taking a deep breath, I phased through the door and was met with a dimly lit home.

There were a few candles in the kitchen and bathroom.

And a single candle in the living room, which lit up a cracked framed picture.

A picture of what looked like a slightly younger Vincent and then a small, yet happy blonde girl in his arms.

...His daughter.

This was Vincent’s and his daughter’s home.

My body tensed up as I realized just who the second energy trace belonged to.

I turned to my left and spotted a room with a metal lock on it.

Coincidentally, that very same room was where the second energy was headed toward.

"..."

I knew whatever was waiting for me on the other side would not be pleasant.

But even so, I approached the locked door, paused for a moment, then passed through with my eyes closed.

"Hick..."

Sniffle...

She was sobbing, her voice unnaturally distorted.

And when I finally opened my eyes, I finally understood why Vincent was going to such an extent to help Kai.

Crimson horns, patchy and leathery skin, dried black blood everywhere...

She was a demon.

A very low-ranked demon.

...Kai had turned Vincent’s daughter into a demon.
