Transmigrated As The Final Villain of a Death Game-Chapter 124: The Harper Citadel Arc [ 6 ]
The five of us made our way back to the inn and sat down at one table.
Since Maximillian was a little injured, I gave him one of my healing potions, patching him right up.
That also made Cassie and Jake less wary of us.
"Were you really planning on getting a turtle, or was that just something you said to get our attention?" Cassie questioned.
Clementine let out a chuckle.
"We are way too busy to get a pet. Maybe in the future, though."
"We’re also busy, you know? Having a pet will make you two happier, I promise."
Yeah...
I don’t think that’s possible.
Clementine simply smiled and didn’t say another word.
Once we all settled down and our batch of food came, I began relaying the information Clementine and I gathered.
The arrival of the demon, as well as the three Arch Priests.
More importantly, we told them about the hidden dungeon in Arch Priest Fivien’s personal room.
Although it didn’t look like they believed us at first, Maximillian gave us the benefit of the doubt.
"So what’s your plan? Even though we are high-ranking nobles, we can’t just storm the cathedral and get away with it. Our family would literally skin us alive."
"Max."
Jake took a sip of beer and leaned back slightly.
"Who said anything about storming the cathedral? If it’s as these two say, then their demon hunting mission allows them to freely explore the cathedral."
"Since that’s the case, they can just ask for some outside help, which would be us. No one will ask any questions because of our reputation."
So he’s the smart one.
I nodded in satisfaction.
"That works fine. Your reputation will also help us back whatever we find down there."
The three Vermillions nodded as well, agreeing to the plan.
I was honestly surprised by how open-minded these guys were.
And because of Clementine’s suggestion, we now had three Vermillion swordsmen to help us out.
They were all around Grade 30, so they wouldn’t be baggage either.
It was perfect.
"Mind if we join in?"
A familiar voice rang out from the table behind me.
The moment I turned around, I spotted Kai and Vincent sitting side by side.
Kai stared at me with a smile.
"I’m glad you’re not disregarding my information. It means a lot to me. But you know... since I was the one who told you about the underground area, I deserve to be a part of the team too, don’t I?"
No.
As much as I wanted someone as powerful as him, I couldn’t trust him.
After all, whenever I used my Mystic Eyes on him, I always came up blank, as though something was blocking me.
Almost like what happened when I used the Mystic Eyes earlier.
But even if he was suspicious... I couldn’t link him to anything.
So far, all he’s been doing ever since entering the city was playing around, eating... following Clementine and me.
I had nothing to back my suspicion aside from how powerful he was.
Even so...
"You must’ve listened to the entire conversation, so you know that just anybody can’t enter the cathedral. Your identity is unknown, so we can’t take you along."
Kai pouted slightly.
"Fine. What about Vincent then?"
He pointed at his companion.
"He used to be a Paladin before retiring. He still has a badge and everything. Show them, Vincent."
Vincent flinched, then reached into his Dimensional Ring and pulled out a golden ring, engraved with the crest of the moon.
When Paladins begin their service, their respective churches engrave the symbol of who the Paladins believe in.
Since the symbol resembled a moon, Vincent was a believer of the Moon God.
"I used to be one of the captains of the Holy Order, and many recognize my face if I shave my beard. Though I’ve been retired for nearly two decades, so many have forgotten me."
He stored the ring back inside his Dimensional Ring and lowered his head.
Kai patted him on the back and smiled at me.
"See? Take him along instead. The more support, the better. Isn’t that right?"
"..."
Clementine and I exchanged a glance.
Obviously, the Vermillions had their own share of thoughts, but since Clementine and I were the ones who would lead this whole excursion, they didn’t feel like it was right to share their thoughts.
Still, once I saw Clementine nod slightly, I let out a sigh and turned back to Kai.
"Alright. Vincent can come along."
Kai smiled widely.
"Excellent! I’ll let you all get along then. Let me know how it goes!"
His figure flickered.
I knew he was about to vanish just like all the other times.
But this time, I was fully prepared for this movement.
The moment he vanished, I used my Mystic Eyes.
For a brief moment, I managed to catch a glimpse of not only his energy, but also where he arrived, and even his expression as he stared back at me, even though he shouldn’t have been able to.
A slight frown appeared on his face as the energy he began to emanate increased significantly, drowning out his presence and ultimately pushing me away.
Once again, he had vanished.
Yet that slight fraction of a second was enough for me to see just how pure his energy was.
So pure, one might even assume he was the pope of the Holy Order itself.
But I knew who the pope was... and this guy wasn’t him.
Furthermore, just what was he doing in that abandoned district?
Most people avoid that part of the Harper Citadel, since it’s the furthest away from the cathedral.
That also means there’s some shady stuff happening there from time to time.
Still, I put those thoughts behind me for now, as I wanted to put all my focus into this expedition.
"Jeez... I didn’t expect you to be so unreasonable," Maximillian chimed in.
"Brother, he’s not unreasonable. He’s just cautious."
"If that’s how it looked to you, then your brain is smaller than I thought."
The two began glaring daggers at each other.
As for Jake, he merely observed everyone while quietly eating his food.
Clementine was the same, since she probably knew I could handle the rest.
I stood up, and with a smile, I sat down beside the calm Vincent.
So far, he’s been a mystery to me.
But I can tell that his relationship with Kai is complex, to the point that I get the feeling Vincent might be some sort of retainer.
Though whether I’m overthinking it or not... I’ll see soon.
"It’s nice to meet you again, Vincent."
"I would say the same, but you’re still as loud and obnoxious as ever."
Haha.
At least with Kai not being around, he’s acting like himself.
Now then...
"Vincent, why have you come to the Harper Citadel?"
