Chapter 91: Chapter 91: The Return Journey

On May 4th, Yi Roujing and the other three, along with Yuan Xiangyu, had breakfast at the Hu Family’s house and then went to the hospital.

Hu Heping was drinking chicken soup, and upon seeing the group, she smiled first, "You all have arrived?"

"Cousin." Yuan Xiangyu bowed deeply to Hu Heping, "I’m sorry, I was wrong. I won’t throw tantrums and lash out at others again in the future."

"In the days to come, I will help you with the little one to atone for my wrongs. I hope you can forgive me, cousin." 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

"It’s okay, I have already forgiven you," Hu Heping said with a smile, "But you must keep your word and not vent your frustrations on others for your own reasons."

Zhu Lanzhen had already stepped forward to help her up, gently patting Yuan Xiangyu’s hand, "Alright, alright, have fun in Jiangcheng these days. What your uncle said yesterday was just out of anger; don’t take it to heart."

"Uncle is already very nice," Yuan Xiangyu said, wrinkling her nose, "If it were my dad, my legs would definitely be broken by now. Anyway, there’s no avoiding a beating when I get back home."

Zhu Lanzhen laughed at this. She was familiar with Yuan Xiangyu from Jing City, a lively and proud little girl with a kind heart, straightforward speech, and a knack for minor troubles, comparable to the boys in the courtyard. But she still liked this child, so it was no wonder her mother-in-law was fond of her.

After being scared yesterday, there was some blame towards her, but since Hu Heping and the child were fine, and this child genuinely admitted her mistake, the little grudge in Zhu Lanzhen’s heart faded away. She only hoped this child wouldn’t cause any more trouble.

"With your grandpa and aunty protecting you, your dad won’t dare to hit you," Zhu Lanzhen said with a smile.

"That’s not good," Yuan Xiangyu shook her head seriously, "If I really did something wrong, I should accept the punishment; otherwise, I won’t remember. My dad is still considerate about me; he won’t beat me to death or cripple me. I just have to endure a few days in bed, which isn’t new to me."

Her words made everyone in the ward laugh.

"Congratulations, Heping." Yi Roujing congratulated Hu Heping and then mentioned their intention to return.

Hu Heping’s face was full of apology, "It’s all because of me..."

"Heping, our relationship is too close to talk like this. It’s not like we won’t see each other again. Next time we come to the provincial city, we’ll expect you and this little bundle to host us," Yi Roujing said, teasing the half-squinted eyes of the little baby lying on the bed.

Hu Heping laughed, "Indeed, it’s thanks to you that this little bundle could be born."

"From now on, this little one’s nickname will be Little Bun," Hu Heping decided.

The group with Zhu Lanzhen had no objections. First, Little Bun sounded quite cute, and second, it was just a nickname. So, everyone in the ward started calling the child Little Bun.

"The fine cotton fabric chosen by Roujing is really nice. Last night Old Hu gave it to me when I came back, and this morning, the child’s grandmother took it to make clothes, which should be ready in a few days," Zhu Lanzhen expressed her gratitude for the items Yi Roujing and the others bought.

"It just happened at the right time, this child with the tiger-headed, tiger-brained look, seems full of energy."

"Absolutely," Zhu Lanzhen immediately echoed.

...

"Have you bought the train tickets?" Hu Zhishu asked concernedly.

Ding Ancheng nodded, "Don’t worry, Mr. Hu, everything is arranged."

"What time is the train?"

"One in the afternoon," Ding Ancheng replied.

"Then you’d better have lunch at home. I’m going back to buy groceries and cook now. If you don’t try my cooking when you come over, I won’t agree," Zhu Lanzhen said with a laugh, rushing back to prepare.

"I’ll take you to the station in the afternoon," Hao Zhijian said, making sure everything was well arranged.

Zhu Lanzhen’s cooking was rightfully praised by Hu Heping several times. The dishes were both exquisite and flavorful. The roast duck slice with meat wrapped in dough with some cucumber slices and sauce was famous Jing City roast duck.

"I made several; you can take them when you go back so your family can try them. They won’t spoil in a day," said Zhu Lanzhen, who was skilled at making roast duck. Her family even bought a roast duck oven.

A tofu fish head ball soup was also exceptional, free from the earthy or fishy smell, with fish balls tender, bouncy, and chewy; a braised pork dish that Yi Roujing thought was comparable to her mother-in-law, Li Hongying’s skill.

There was also beggar’s chicken, shredded eel fried noodles, tomato beef brisket, sweet and sour fish... a table full of hearty dishes.

Yi Roujing and her group ate till they were full, with Yuan Xiangyu giving Zhu Lanzhen a big thumbs-up.

After lunch, they had a cup of tea to digest, then got packed up and ready to leave.

Hao Zhijian took the four to the train station, pulling out three large piles of items in woven bags from the trunk, "I’ll help you carry these onto the train. These were prepared by the in-laws on my wife’s side," sent over to prevent Yi Roujing and the others from refusing them.

Fortunately, the return compartment was for all four of them, and the woven bags were stuffed under the bed, while the four got on the bed to rest, discussing how to carry these items home after getting off the train.

"I’ve called someone to help," Ding Ancheng said. Before the train started, he specially went to the duty room hoping to make a call. After showing his introduction letter, and knowing he was a teacher, the staff at the train station quickly agreed.

"Big brother, you already thought of this earlier," Ding Anmin was extremely impressed.

Zhu Lanzhen prepared dinner for the four, so Yi Roujing’s group didn’t go to the dining car. Ding Ancheng and Ding Anguo fetched hot water and heated the food.

Zhu Lanzhen prepared some convenient meat sandwiches for the road, along with mantou, accompanied by a bottle of homemade mushroom meat sauce for them to enjoy another wonderful meal.

"Surely Lanzhen Aunty’s family knows someone working at the supply and marketing cooperative or somewhere, being able to buy all these good ingredients," Ding Anmin remarked with amazement.

The train arrived precisely at nine o’clock at Huaixi County train station. There weren’t many people getting off, and when Yi Roujing and the others got off, Gu Shizhao was already waiting on the platform.

Gu Shizhao came directly driving a tractor, and after placing the woven bags properly, the group boarded the tractor, which went "putt-putt-putt" heading towards Dingping Production Team.

"Mr. Yi, I’d like to trouble you with something, could you please keep an eye on Xingchen more often when at the team?" On the way back to the team, it was very quiet, with only the sound of the tractor and the earthy chirping of animals in the countryside until Gu Shizhao spoke, overriding the ambient sounds.

"We’ll let Xingchen stay at home upon our return, not at the educated youth point, making it easier to watch over everything," Yi Roujing replied.

Gu Shizhao smiled, "Mr. Yi, you are indeed thorough."

"Is there a problem with Wen Chaokuan?" Ding Ancheng asked.

"I’m not sure yet, but it’s always good to be cautious." Though Gu Shizhao’s words were casual, his expression was very serious, "Wen Chaokuan likes Song Yiluo, and we all know that. Zhao Guang mentioned it before and said everyone is a lovebird at heart, and because of his loose tongue, Wen Chaokuan got him to spill the beans, sharing with him about how we previously tied up Xingchen and let her go after reprimanding her."
