Transmigrated as Cannon Fodder — I Rise to Female Lead Through Hard Work-Chapter 104: Chen Youyi’s Gratitude
Yi Roujing saw that the child had regained consciousness and stopped her actions. However, the child on the ground struggled to get up, and Yi Roujing stopped him.
"Is there a door panel? This child needs to lie flat and go to the hospital, and a doctor should examine him thoroughly to check for any other problems." As soon as Yi Roujing finished speaking, someone enthusiastic went to find one. Soon, Chen Ali came carrying a door panel.
"Let the child lie flat on the board, and don’t let him move around," Yi Roujing instructed.
"Could this comrade accompany us to the hospital? It’s a little way, and if anything happens..." Chen Ali earnestly implored. Having just witnessed Yi Roujing’s technique that successfully revived Chen Guole, he was overjoyed, not to mention that this was a great benefactor. He had to get the details so that the little uncle could properly repay her.
"Le, don’t move. Third brother will take you to the hospital now. Once there, you can see your dad." Chen Ali comforted softly, and Chen Guole obediently stopped moving.
Yi Roujing and Ding Anguo were then surrounded by people as they went to the workers’ hospital.
Wu Aihua remained in place, but no one paid much attention to her anymore. Somewhat bewildered, she followed by pushing her bicycle, her eyes constantly on Yi Roujing. Her grip on the handlebar tightened, filled with curiosity about who that person was and what the actions she had just performed were all about.
Looking younger than herself, yet today she made her look like such a fool, although she was more relieved that Mr. Chen’s son was saved. Otherwise, her path as a doctor might have ended here.
Chen Youyi had finished breakfast at the staff canteen and planned to go to the county government at 9:30. He was sitting in his office drinking tea when the door suddenly burst open, and the head of internal medicine rushed in.
"Mr. Chen, hurry to the second floor. Le is in trouble."
"Crash—" The cup Chen Youyi was holding shattered, and he was frightened. "Wha-What happened?"
"Don’t worry, Le was rescued and is alright now. Go and see him."
With his heart pounding, Chen Youyi managed to calm himself a bit and hurried downstairs. Upon seeing Chen Guole lying in the hospital bed and the orthopedic doctor examining him nearby, he kept silent, knowing as a doctor that he shouldn’t disturb them.
Chen Guole’s shirt had been removed, revealing a large, slightly purple-red mark in the center of his chest, indicating an impact.
"I can feel that the bones aren’t broken, but it’s hard to tell if there’s a fracture without an X-ray," the doctor said.
"Dad," Chen Guole called out hoarsely when he saw Chen Youyi.
"Ah, ah, be good, Le. Go get an X-ray. Dad will wait for you here," Chen Youyi said, patting his head affectionately.
"Okay."
A nurse pushed Chen Guole off for the X-ray, while Chen Youyi looked at Chen Ali, who was drenched in sweat and trembling from running too much.
His son had been staying at the family residence on the outskirts of the county, just an hour’s walk away. His old mother missed her little grandson, so of course, he allowed it. But...
"Ali, what happened?" Chen Youyi asked.
"Uncle, I’m sorry," Chen Ali immediately knelt down, startling Chen Youyi, who rushed forward to help him up and let him sit on a bench. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
"A man should stand tall; there’s no need to kneel. Just tell me what happened. I’m just interested in what happened to Le; everything else is secondary," Chen Youyi said sternly.
"I know Le is usually mischievous, and you all take good care of him, which I appreciate very much. This incident, I’m sure Le himself cannot completely shift the blame," Chen Youyi continued.
"Uncle, we didn’t watch Le well and let him go into the water," Chen Ali said guiltily. "We went to the creek to catch fish. There were so many big ones that we were thrilled, and nobody noticed when Le leaned into the water."
"We were careless, thinking the creek was only as deep as Le’s shoulders and nothing would happen, so we let our guard down. By the time we realized, Le had already passed out."
"I ran all the way here carrying Le. Oh, right, Uncle, it’s all thanks to this comrade that Le was saved," Chen Ali quickly mentioned Yi Roujing to his uncle.
"This comrade pressed on Le’s chest and gave him mouth-to-mouth and saved him," Chen Ali said excitedly, his eyes sparkling.
"Yeah, yeah, at first it seemed he was gone, and his chest wasn’t moving. But unbelievably, after pressing for a while, he was saved."
"It wasn’t just pressing, the comrade pressed for a long time and so quickly. An ordinary person couldn’t do it."
"Exactly, Doctor Wu couldn’t do it. He was so scared that all he could say was for Ali to take the child to the hospital."
...
Chen Youyi never expected the marks on his son’s chest weren’t from a collision but from being pressed. He took a close look at Yi Roujing, a very young and beautiful girl.
"Thank you, comrade," Chen Youyi deeply bowed to Yi Roujing, genuinely grateful as a father.
"It was nothing, just had to help when I saw it, especially since it’s such a young child," Yi Roujing said humbly, waving her hand.
"May I ask, what is the principle behind such pressing?" Chen Youyi asked, eager to learn.
Yi Roujing wasn’t sure how to explain. If she mentioned CPR, people wouldn’t understand because the term wasn’t used domestically at the time. Yet historically, traditional Chinese medicine had similar techniques long ago.
"It was my grandfather who taught me," Yi Roujing came up with a suitable explanation since there was no way to verify it. "If someone’s heart and breathing stop from drowning or electrocution, you can use this rescue technique."
"Rescue?" It was a new term, and Chen Youyi repeated it.
"Some situations are urgent, and by the time you reach the hospital, it might be too late. Immediate on-site rescue is required. As long as they’re breathing and the heart is beating, the rest can be treated once at the hospital," Yi Roujing explained.
"Are you a doctor, comrade?" Chen Youyi inquired further, "May I ask your name?"
"Yi Roujing."
Chen Youyi found the name very familiar, though he couldn’t recall where he had heard it before. He figured it was so pleasant-sounding because she was his son’s lifesaver.
"I’m not a doctor, but I’m working towards that goal," Yi Roujing smiled. "For now, what I know is what my grandfather taught me."
"And may I ask who your grandfather is, Comrade Yi?"
"My grandfather was a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner, though he’s passed away," Yi Roujing said somberly.
"I’m sorry," Chen Youyi apologized immediately.
He thanked everyone who had come to help warmly and personally escorted them downstairs. But when Yi Roujing and Ding Anguo were about to leave, Chen Youyi stopped them.
