Chapter 31: 31

Thornvale’s south gate opened.

On the horizon, I saw a vast expanse of grassland.

I took a few steps forward, preparing to exit the gate, and behind me, Leysha, Alex, and Cecile looked at me sadly and anxiously.

I knew they were anxious because they were worried about me.

But with the Black Star in my hand, if I remained in Thornvale, the Great Wyvern would come and renew the damage we had already repaired.

"Baron Atreus... forgive me for being presumptuous, but does Baron Atreus have to go alone like this? Honestly, I can’t bear to see you struggling alone..." Leysha said, unable to hold back her sobs any longer.

"What Leysha says is true, Baron Atreus. The Assassins are under my control now, but most of them still have hope in you, Baron Atreus... and so do I... Thornvale has grown rapidly after collaborating with Vermillion, and we don’t want to be completely wiped out by King Victor Dragomir because of this rebellion..." Cecile shed tears, her heart breaking.

I smiled, then approached Leysha and Cecile, placing my hands on their shoulders to reassure them.

But they couldn’t help themselves, and hugged me tightly.

I never imagined these two beautiful, sexy, and strong women would truly have such feelings for me.

I hadn’t felt love this deep since I was married in my world.

"Baron Atreus... please hold this amulet..." Leysha said through her sobs, placing a silver necklace with a simple shield-shaped pendant on it.

As Leysha placed the amulet around my neck, I felt a powerful magical power flowing through my body.

"Oh... what is this?" I asked curiously.

"A protective amulet I created with the healers, Baron Atreus. It’s actually a collaboration between the abilities of a magician and the abilities of a weapon crafter who develops magical gear. Although this magical gear isn’t perfect, I’m confident it will protect the Baron on his journey," Leysha explained.

"Heh... thank you, Leysha..."

Ah, what a comforting warmth.

Even before my journey, they cared so much and longed for my return.

It was a far cry from when I was still in my world, where my wife and child didn’t care at all whether I went to work or when I returned.

Despite this longing warmth, I still had to fight for my future, and the future of Vermillion as a whole.

"Take good care of yourselves and our territory, Leysha, Cecile. There will be a time when we can rekindle our passionate lovemaking in that bed filled with beautiful memories," I whispered mischievously.

Leysha and Cecile immediately blushed and let go, slightly annoyed to see me smile like a naughty man.

But deep down, I knew they were longing for the warmth of performing the ’ritual’ with me again.

"Baron Atreus, I hope you are blessed with safety and security on your long journey. Forgive us for not being able to accompany you due to our limited strength... I personally feel ashamed that I cannot accompany you in this struggle..." Alex said, lowering his head in shame.

"Don’t worry too much, Alex. Everyone has their own role. And you also fulfill your role very well as our youngest troop commander, far better than that traitor. I entrust the security of our territory to you, Alex."

"Y-yes, Baron Atreus...!"

I saw the expressions on Alex, Leysha, and Cecile’s faces begin to brighten as I had reassured them and assured them of my safety.

But I, to be honest, couldn’t quite gauge my security with the Black Star in my hand.

"Baron Atreus... do you need a horse for this long journey? We have the best horses with superb stamina and-"

"No need, Alex. I already have one," I interrupted, my right hand immediately conjuring a black flame that was so hot that Leysha had to prepare a magical barrier to protect herself, Cecile, and Alex from the heat of my black flames.

"With this black flame... I never thought Rhaevor’s spirit could evolve into such a different form. I must thank you, Leysha..." I said, summoning Rhaevor’s Spirit.

The tall, muscular, red-skinned man appeared before me.

But gradually, his form changed as black flames suddenly appeared and enveloped his entire body.

WHOOSHHH...!

The black flames grew thicker, as magical energy accumulated far stronger than Rhaevor’s usual spirit level.

A split second after I snapped my fingers, the black flames subsided, revealing Rhaevor’s Spirit, which was no longer in human form, but a large horse with black fur complete with his silver and blue armor.

"W-what is this horse...? It’s almost twice the size of a normal horse...!" Alex exclaimed in shock.

"A spirit in horse form...? Oh, its magical abilities even surpass Rhaevor’s...!" Leysha could hardly believe what she was seeing.

"B-Baron Atreus...could it be...this is the horse you were talking about?" Cecile asked, trembling.

"Yes, this is my new horse. I’ll name it Shadow Moon. How about it? Cool, right?" I said with a proud smile.

I climbed onto Shadow Moon’s rather tall saddle.

I snapped my fingers to summon Vermillion’s coat, which immediately draped over my black tunic.

"Baron Atreus...this magical horse is truly extraordinary...I-I think your journey will be secure with such a powerful horse...!" Alex exclaimed in admiration.

"Of course, Alex...! Leysha...! Cecile...! Don’t worry...! I’ll return with good news for Vermillion...! While I’m gone, please guard our territory against enemy attacks!" I exclaimed firmly.

"Understood, Baron Atreus...!" Alex, Leysha, and Cecile exclaimed in unison.

I pointed south, specifically toward the vast grasslands before reaching the golden mountain of Aaren.

Shadow Moon immediately galloped off.

His breathing sounded steady and firm, accompanied by sparks of black fire with each of his footsteps.

Man, I even felt like I wasn’t riding a horse, but a plane, because his powerful footsteps didn’t produce any vibrations that shook my body!

I looked around and saw an automatic magical barrier surrounding Shadow Moon and me, which served to mitigate the effects of the wind pressure generated by Shadow Moon’s incredibly fast footsteps.

Roughly speaking, I could estimate that Shadow Moon’s speed was ten times that of a normal horse.

The surrounding grasslands I was passing through seemed to be blurred by Shadow Moon’s incredible speed.

Absolutely incredible...!

THUD..!

Suddenly, the Black Star in my right palm radiated a heat that was enough to cause pain.

I don’t know what caused it, but it was as if Black Star was giving me an early warning sign.

However, I didn’t detect any enemy movement around me.

Heck, even if there were enemies, they couldn’t possibly reach me with Shadow Moon’s super-fast speed!

But Black Star was still pulsing and giving off signals.

In the midst of my confusion, something giant suddenly loomed over me from the sky.

Just as I looked up, the giant figure stared down at me with a disdainful gaze.

The Great Wyvern roared loudly, shaking the grasslands.

"ROAARR...!"

"The Great Wyvern...?! Well, I didn’t expect it to be this fast, buddy...!" I exclaimed, revving Shadow Moon again.

I shifted Shadow Moon’s course to the side, but the Great Wyvern followed suit.

The damn dragon was shadowing me from the sky, as if it were a bomber ready to drop its deadly bombs on its prey below.

"NAIVE...! DO YOU THINK THAT A FREEING ME WILL MAKE ME BECOME WEAK AND POWERLESS...?! YOU’RE SO WRONG, ATREUS VERMILLION...! NOW I’VE GROWN SO MUCH STRONGER...!"

The Great Wyvern’s cry shook the sky and the grassland.

The dragon swooped down, releasing its deadly poison breath, which filled the surrounding grassland.

Shadow Moon’s spirit would naturally be unaffected by this poison, but if I were to suffer from it, Shadow Moon would surely disappear on its own.

Although I was confident in my natural immunity to the Great Wyver’s poison, it turned out to be far more potent than usual.

Only in a split of seconds, I saw the surrounding grass suddenly die from the effects of this poisonous gas, not to mention the ground, which seemed to dry up, instantly killing anything living in it.

And unfortunately, this powerful poison was slowly disrupting my breathing.

Even with my high immunity, which had previously counteracted that damn dragon’s poison, it still wasn’t enough...!

Shadow Moon’s speed slowed down as the effects of the damn poison disrupted my breathing.

I saw the dragon soaring high in the sky, circling me as if monitoring me and making sure I wasn’t struggling due to its much more potent poison gas.

"HAHAHAHAH! WHATS WRONG, BOY...?! THIS CHAOS IS NOT ACCORDING YOUR PLAN, ISN’T IT?!" The Great Wyvern shouted loudly.

I was forced to halt Shadow Moon’s progress and stare at the dragon, still perched in the sky.

I took out a special mask made by Leysha and her team to temporarily counteract the effects of this poison.

"Wyvern...! You said you wanted to take over the golden mountain of Aaren, didn’t you?! Why don’t we just work together?! I have a great plan...!" I exclaimed loudly.

"HAH...! YOU’RE ASKING ME TO COOPERATE WHILE IT IS ME WHO ASKED YOU TO COMPLETE MY CHALLENGE...! FOOLISH BOY...!"

"No need to pretend, Wyvern...! I know you’re afraid of the strong defenses of Aaren’s golden mountain...! I have an idea to dismantle it all...!"

"IDIOT...! EVEN THOUGH YOU’RE THE REMAINING VERMILLION AND ARE ALREADY AT THE BLACK STAR STAGE, DON’T YOU EASILY THINK I’LL LISTEN TO YOU...!"

Tch, it looks like the Great Wyvern is still stubborn and won’t listen to me.

That bastard dragon opened his mouth wide, preparing to fire his deadly poison gas at both of you.

Damn, if he swoops down and fires that again, I’m not sure my natural immunity can handle it.

THUD...!

Damn... Black Star is pulsing again and giving a warning.

This is strange.

Didn’t Black Star already warn about the Great Wyvern?

Wait a minute.

Could this be another warning...!

Is there another dragon...?!

Suddenly, I heard a huge booming sound about a kilometer behind me.

From the booming and the surrounding tremors, I knew a giant was coming, and it wasn’t the Great Wyvern.

What kind of giant is this...?!
