Transcending Realms With My Leveling System As A Demon-Chapter 47: What is Family to You?
Fred and Lucas approached each other in completely different manners; one came up as nervous, the other came up as arrogant.
"That’s the guy with the sss elemental ability, Lucas Waine."
"He’s pretty hot, but he doesn’t compare to the other guy."
"Whatever that guy’s ability was, it must’ve been even greater than SSS."
"But Lucas also has a wealthy family."
Whispers spread among the girls as Zylus smirked and walked back to his original position. He now stood all alone, every girl too nervous to speak to him, and the guys were clearly envious of his sudden glory.
"Fighters, shake hands!" Mr. Cruz yelled as Fred and Lucas started to walk up to each other.
Lucas leaned over, "Hey," he whispered in Fred’s ear.
Fred shook, as if time started to slow down, "Promise me you’ll let me get with Eldra and I won’t kill you." Lucas declared.
Something in Fred completely numbed his senses; he realized how much of a poor brother he had been. Fred and Eldra were siblings, but just two sides of the same coin.
She never wanted to associate with him, not in public, because of the embarrassment Eldra felt being around a nerdy kid like Fred. In this, she separated herself from him, and then, slowly, Fred started losing everything around him.
A tear dropped down from Fred’s face, "N-No."
"What did you say?" Lucas leaned closer, angrily. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"I said no!" To his surprise, this was the first time Fred genuinely stood up for himself, and a time when everything would change.
"Ungrateful brat, I’ll kill you." Lucas started walking back, as Mr. Cruz demanded.
Fred wasn’t big; he was small, slightly overweight, and had always been made fun of.
"Opponents! Separate yourselves!" The teacher yelled as a barrier started to encircle the students viewing the bout.
Zylus looked intrigued, suspicious of what they were talking about over there. Eldra began walking towards him, and Zylus’s interest piqued while watching the bout.
"You’re pretty strong, you know that?" Eldra said, moving her chest towards Zylus.
He pushed her back, "Not too close." Zylus smiled gently, "I have a girl waiting for me back at home." He whispered, not enough for Eldra to hear.
"That’s my bad." Eldra ecstatically responded, "But who are you? The people selected to receive an elemental affinity are only the top one-hundred who passed the Spirit exam score." She paused, staring upwards, at Zylus’s intense look, "If I saw someone like you in the exam room, I would’ve most definitely remembered you. So where did you come from? Really?"
"Didn’t I just beat you?" Zylus said, "Intrigue should only be given to those who win."
Eldra blushed, "I really want this guy," she whispered, as the other girls looked at her angrily, because they didn’t want to allow her to have him all to herself.
"Just watch the battle in front of us," Zylus said.
"Battle?" Eldra wondered out loud, "This is going to be a complete slaughter fest, my brother can’t take Lucas on, not for as long as he lives."
"Your brother?" Zylus snapped, "Fred’s your brother?"
"Yes-, well, not really." She responded. "I kind of separated myself from him since we were younger, hate weaklings like him, they don’t even deserve to be graced with my blood."
Zylus’s gaze shifted downwards, a nerve tingled through his spine, then he calmed himself down, looking up at the sky as a tear slipped down his cheek.
"Jeez, what has gotten him so sad?" Eldra whispered to herself.
"What was your name again? Edreth?" Zylus asked, continuing to stare into the beautiful blue sky.
"It’s Eldra. Eldra Forless." She responded calmly. "We’re already getting close; he’s all mine now," Eldra whispered at her end.
"Listen, Eldra," Wiping off the one tear in his eyes, Zylus glared at the fight that was about to happen, "Family is everything."
"But you can’t count someone like that as family." Eldra angrily declared.
"In everyone’s family, they are given roles..." He whispered sadly, "And your role is to protect your brother. Because the moment you lose him, you’ll end up pinning the blame on yourself, and then you’ll end up losing yourself to rage."
"And just how do you know that?" Eldra curiously wondered, but nothing that Zylus said changed her ideals.
"Me...?" Zylus whispered, his face couldn’t keep his smile, "It’s an assumption..."
"Okay...?" Eldra was confused, but then something in her heart began to ache.
But of course, Zylus knew this all too well. When he lost his family, he blamed himself for every action, for every mistake, for every talk. And once this happened, Zylus made it his lifelong goal to seek vengeance, and without it, he can’t rest at ease.
And now, with Zenos unable to fight, possibly never again, he deemed it his journey to succeed for his cause.
"Let the fight..." Mr. Cruz whispered, "Begin!"
Fred finally had a bit of confidence, enough to pull off one technique against Lucas, after what Lucas said about his sister, in a lustful fashion.
"Elemental Affinity: Activ-" no, Fred couldn’t say it, because at that moment, Lucas’s technique came bashing down on him, and he stood there, afraid.
"Elemental Affinity: Activate," Lucas smirked, "Welcome back, Authority."
With that, a type of grey mysterious aura surrounded him. Zylus watched, a bit curious about the matter, actually.
At this point, Zylus realized something. Elements aren’t simply the common stereotypes like ’fire, water, grass.’ No, it was much more than that; anything can count as an actual element, not just your natural environment.
Amidst all this chaos, Eldra bumped her chest onto Zylus’s right arm, "What’s your rank, anyways?"
"Rank?" Zylus wondered out loud.
"You know, the ability class your elemental affinity was given after the exam sheet. Mine’s B class, pretty good if I do say so myself." Eldra confidently said, "Yours gotta be at least an A for beating me."
Thinking back, I do remember an instant when my system gave me a class. But I can’t remember what it was.
With that said, Zylus’s system began displaying the answers he was looking for.
[Elemental Affinity: Blood Oath]
[Rank: Unknown???]
Zylus turned to Eldra, "You’re right, I’m an A rank." He sarcastically smiled. What an obvious lie.
"Of course I’m right." She responded, "I’m always right."
