Chapter 96: Hidden within the obvious

"You want him to be the vice guildmaster? Is he that special?" Izzy wasn’t too sure about his choice even though she was looking at the file they just received from their parents.

She knew how this person was pretty famous within a large corporation and had excellent skills when it came to management.

He was quick-witted and was great at reading people. One of the top individuals in the city had kept him close to him since he knew his talents.

Many were envious of him, so when the pillar fell at the time of tutorial, they pushed him away and made sure he couldn’t rise.

"He’s a liability as well. We will have to go against those who were pushing him down." Izzy didn’t want to get into unnecessary conflicts with other organizations just yet.

They were just starting out so having even a little dirt on their names will pull their chances of getting good individuals down.

"He’ll be worth it, Izzy. He’s the right one. If you’re uncertain, you can test him as much as you want. He’ll be all yours anyway."

KiRA couldn’t share the status windows that he was seeing through his authority or else she would have seen just how amazing he would be once he awakened as a player.

The skills that he had were not easily seen and it’s not every day you find someone so skilled.

"I know you trust him. I could tell that the moment he entered the room from your expression. What I don’t want to deal with are the ones that were pushing him down.

If even those in power in these times are wary of a simple human, there must be something special to him."

But her worries were about those powerful people.

"If they come after the guild, I know Mom and others will crush them completely. If they aim for the guild members, I know I won’t leave them alone. And if they aim for any of us..." She looked at him warily, knowing full well how he would be the biggest threat to them if they did anything remotely foolish.

He wasn’t as forgiving as he seemed.

She had seen the darkness he carried within him and if those people did anything out of their league even by mistake, she knew this city and the stability that was established with great efforts of the association would crumble down once again.

The people in question may not be players but they had powerful players under them and that made them important for the city.

It was best to deal with this matter as covertly as possible. And she just wanted to know

whether that person was worth so much trouble.

"Don’t worry, silly. They aren’t so foolish that they would come for us directly." Tucking her hair behind her ear, a classic move, he smiled at her warmly. "He’ll be great as a vice-guildmaster. We won’t have to worry about the work efficiency with him around."

The way he used the word ’we’ was pretty concerning to her. She didn’t know if that person would be worth their efforts or not, but she knew for a fact that he wasn’t going to make it easy for him.

’Should I be worried about that person or happy about the guild?’ She wondered, but then just chose to not think much about this.

Things will work out somehow.

"Should we continue now?" With a helpless expression, she asked to move forward.

"We should. There are still many left." His answer came with a smirk. She knew he was enjoying her misery once again.

Then again, what could she do here? She was simply a helpless, weak maiden.

"Next!"

The mechanical voice was actually KiRA’s aunt, but those sitting in the interview queue couldn’t tell the difference.

"Let’s see who we have next..."

They were choosing the guild members based on not just their skills and potential awakening skills.

The process was more than KiRA choosing individuals based on their skills and stats.

When they were choosing those who weren’t players for the various guild roles, they were choosing those who had experience and potential to awaken skills as well as those who might become useful in the future.

With KiRA’s judgment skills as well as his <Desire> stat that made the interviewees hesitant about various things, he psychologically forced them to reveal all that he wanted to know without them realizing.

It was manipulation as well as a mental testing process that Izzy was always stunned to witness. But then again, it was more efficient than going through various rounds of interviews and testing.

"Why do you want to work in the administration?"

That was the first question for those who wanted to work in the administration section of the guild.

"What makes you want to be part of this specific guild?"

That was the question he asked the players who wanted to join the guild and had come without the approach of the agency.

"Why not the battle units but the production units?"

Those who wanted to join as a lifestyle player were asked why they wanted to join as a lifestyle player instead of the battle units.

Even if they only had the lifestyle skills, they could very well join in as a support unit for the battle teams. With the right training, their skill could be useful to the teams that were going into the dungeons.

"Because it’s safe to work in a place rather than in a dungeon?"

Some people answered honestly, expressing how they wanted to be an in-house player instead of a field players. They valued their lives above everything else like cowards they were.

Many weren’t shy to accept that fact.

"I have the skills that would be better suited for a production unit."

Many players tried to answer the question with politically acceptable answers, something they weren’t looking for in this guild.

"Oh? Then it would mean you know well about your skills. Can you elaborate on what your skills can bring to the table?"

No player who hadn’t played the game was aware of the skills that they possessed and even the players that had played the game weren’t experts of the skills that they had.

Skills were special powers. One cannot limit them to the automated and instinctive use that they express when activated.

There were countless ways to use a skill, especially a lifestyle skill.

The limitless potential that these skills had was not something a player would ever be aware of.

It may be hidden right in plain sight, but those who could wield their skills well could very well be best suited for the fields instead of the production.

He wasn’t going to waste anyone with potential. They needed to gather support units as much as they needed the production units.

"Show us how you use your skill." That was the question those who wanted to join the battle units received.

And, while some wondered why they needed to show them how they used the skill instead of what the skill was, they did as they were asked in this room where everything KiRA said was the law.

They followed his instructions as well, and as the interview proceeded, the two of them stumbled upon someone they had asked for specifically.

"Hello... I’m here with the Agency’s recommendation."

KiRA had been waiting for her.

And he was pretty happy that they were actually about to find her despite the little information he had given them.

"Hello, Miss Moon."

She was going to be a key player within their lifestyle production group.

But she herself wasn’t aware of that fact...
