Tokyo: My Superpower Refreshes Every Week-Chapter 523 - 521 Seeking Wealth and Danger_1
WHOOSH.
More than a dozen missiles trailed long flames through the air, striking an AH-64A Apache attack helicopter and an F-15I Ra’am fighter jet that were attempting to approach the forest.
BOOMING sounds erupted as the fighter jet and helicopter burst into flames mid-air, subsequently crashing towards the ground.
This wasn’t the first time Julia had seen a fighter jet and helicopter being shot down. It seemed like their own military desperately wanted to rescue the high-ranking officials trapped inside, repeatedly trying to send helicopters escorted by fighter jets. But before they could even get close to that forest, they were hit by missiles coming from who knows where. And it wasn’t just one missile; often it was several, even more than a dozen, as if, at this moment, missiles cost nothing.
Julia, who wasn’t a military enthusiast, understood well why the Iron Dome Air Defense System couldn’t block those missiles. She knew that under the enemy’s intense fire, achieving one hundred percent interception was simply impossible.
It was said that the surrounding countries all wanted to wage a holy war, and the domestic situation was on edge.
But those were not Julia’s concerns.
She carried a backpack, a mobile phone bracket in her right hand, and clutched a flashlight in her left, ready to enter the forest in front of her to start livestreaming.
This was a task assigned by the company.
Whoever could enter here and livestream, the company would provide expensive networking equipment free of charge. They also said the profits from this livestream would be split nine-to-one: the company would take only one part, leaving the remaining nine parts for the brave soul who ventured into the forest.
Julia was in dire need of money.
In the past, she had joined the blogger industry, envying those bloggers who easily made a fortune.
Now, she had to think about her grandmother’s medical expenses.
Adversity always forces one to grow. Her only relative was ill, and she had no money. Julia, who had always indulged in daydreams in the past, had no savings, and her grandmother’s pension was insufficient for surgery. At this point, she didn’t care what she had to do as long as it would make money.
"Okay, Julia, hurry up and get in there," someone from the company said before she entered the forest.
Julia followed the path the person indicated, took a deep breath, and ran towards the pitch-black forest.
This path lay outside the main road blockaded by the military.
After all, the pressure from surrounding nations meant the military couldn’t spare many people for this area, and the few they could deploy weren’t enough to secure such a vast expanse of forest.
Moreover, since she was moving alone, she didn’t encounter any attacks from foreign forces.
Julia had previously witnessed a military troop attempting to enter.
Drones and missiles had rained down on the crowd, blasting them into an indistinguishable mess, likely leaving few survivors.
Watching this made Julia’s heart pound with terror, but she knew that great risks could lead to great rewards. The thought of her grandmother lying in the hospital made her feel that taking this risk was necessary.
Julia plunged into the forest in darkness, then turned on her flashlight, adjusted the direction of the mobile phone on the bracket, and began the livestream.
"Welcome, everyone, to the Brilliant Butterfly livestream. I’m your host, Butterfly~
"Today, I will take all of you on a livestream into the forest that has sprung up in Jerusalem, giving you a firsthand look at the true nature of this miracle forest.
"It’s so dark. Nighttime is truly terrifying. I hope my family can send some gifts or tips to protect me~"
After a few simple words, the number of people in her livestream room shot up visibly.
In just a short while, the viewer count surpassed three hundred thousand!
And the number kept growing, with many people tipping money or giving gifts.
Among them, a user ID flashed by: ’Early Summer’.
Julia glanced at the ID, which was partially obscured. As she watched the surge in viewers and gifts, she became elated. "Folks, look here, the ground seems different from a normal forest.
"I’m not sure what it is exactly, but the trees here are so tall; they’re practically skyscrapers.
"If there are any knowledgeable viewers, you can boldly share your opinions in the comment section."
Julia panned the camera toward the surroundings and illuminated the path ahead with her flashlight, slowly walking along the edge.
She and the company had arranged for her to just wander around the periphery of the forest and draw in a wave of viewers.
But after walking in the woods for a while, Julia suddenly realized she was lost. The surroundings were dim and profound, as if shrouded by a mysterious veil, making it impossible to distinguish directions.
The flashlight’s beam revealed robust tree roots, upturned soil, and dense patches of low bushes.
"Haha, I seem to have lost my way, family. Does anyone have expertise in finding their way in the forest?"
Julia forced a smile; her adaptability was the only strength worth boasting about in her life.
Once again, people showered her with tips, and one of the big spenders commented, "I know, you should head right, that’s the way out."
"Thank you for the advice, Heartless Brother."
Following their advice, Julia proceeded to the right.
Before long, she turned a corner and saw a beautiful sight: the air was filled with tiny, scattered specks of silver light.
"WOW, what’s this?"
Julia shone her flashlight towards the silver sparkles and discovered numerous little insects floating in the air.
They emitted a faint glow like fireflies but looked like caterpillars, without being repulsive like caterpillars.
Perhaps it was their transparent, crystalline bodies with thin wings on their backs that allowed them to fly.
Instantly, comments began to flood in.
"Never seen such a species before, it truly is a miracle!" "Nonsense, these are clearly Monsters from a Different World, be careful, host." "Die, simps." "Lord, burn all these Heretics!" "My boss, the Great Sage Equal to Heaven, isn’t afraid of fire."
For the first time, Julia was experiencing comments coming in faster than she could read them. As she watched the number of viewers in her livestream continue to skyrocket with waves of tips pouring in, she felt a wave of emotion.
No regrets in this life!
The thought flashed through her mind that even if she were to perish here, the profit from this livestream would be enough for her grandmother to undergo surgery.
The top patron, ’Early Summer’, was truly generous, donating thousands upon thousands of US dollars. The other patrons were also very supportive.
Julia felt a surge of gratitude. She knew she couldn’t disappoint her financial backers. She moved her flashlight away and said, "Let’s continue to look ahead."
The insects once again became silver glimmers of light floating in the air.
Julia pushed forward, continuing her adventure and her search for an exit.
In the western part of the forest, darkness enveloped the surroundings.
Tani lay on the ground, feeling like he was close to death.
That damned monster bird had suddenly appeared, and he instinctively dodged to the side, falling straight from the tree—from a height of over ten meters.
If it weren’t for the very soft, enigmatic creature that happened to be in the bush below, cushioning his fall... He wasn’t sure he could even breathe.
Nonetheless, even with the creature cushioning him, he had broken his leg, and it seemed his internal organs were damaged too. He lay on the ground, daring not to move a muscle.
His phone had been flung several meters away.
To reach it, he would have to endure the pain and crawl forward to call for help.
However, his legs were in excruciating pain; they seemed completely broken.
The good news was, he wasn’t paralyzed.
Tani experienced excruciating pain if he moved even slightly, so he decided to lie still for the time being to avoid aggravating his injuries.
In his heart, he hoped that Nock and the others would arrive soon.
His cheek rested against the earth, fragrant with the scent of soil.
As Tani reflected on his life, a sense of desolation arose within him. Could it be that he would die here, unnoticed? Would some unknown Monster come and gnaw on his body, then turn him into dung to fall in the forest, serving as fertilizer for trees and shrubs? This manner of death was something he had never contemplated. In the occasional thoughts of death that flitted through his mind, he had always imagined his own demise to be honorable. A grand and glorious funeral would be held, accompanied by national mourning, and his tomb would be more luxurious than anyone else’s. How could he die like this? Tani was unwilling to accept this fate.
At that moment, human voices wafted through the air.
"Mr. Prime Minister, where are you?"
Beams of light pierced the darkness to his left. Tani’s eyes lit up with hope. He endured the pain and shouted, "I’m here! Nock, hurry over!"
Hearing his voice, the sources of light approached, all from phones with their flashlight function activated.
"Mr. Prime Minister, I’ve finally found you."
Nock looked greatly relieved as he quickly approached. He had intended to display his loyalty but quickly realized the Prime Minister, lying on the ground, was likely in poor condition.
His legs were obscured by bushes, but the blood leaking out indicated severe injuries.
"Doctor, come and take a look."
As Nock had circled the area, he had spotted those who had met a worse fate, as well as surviving Guards, doctors, and some clerks.
One of the doctors quickly pushed through the others, medical kit in hand.
Hearing familiar voices, Tani gradually regained the confidence befitting his position as Prime Minister.
He wasn’t going to die that easily!
A Guard shone a flashlight onto the nearby bushes.
The doctor put down the medical kit and carefully parted the bushes with his hands, revealing the broken legs.
At the section near the ground, fleshy, root-like tendrils grew, connecting the legs to the flattened mass of flesh below, causing the surface of the legs to look like varicose veins.
"What—what is this?"
The doctor, who had never seen such a sight, looked shocked. Suddenly, one of the fleshy, root-like tendrils shot out and plunged into his forehead.
"AH!"
The doctor screamed piercingly.
The others quickly directed their flashlights onto his face.
"What happened?" Tani shouted, turning his head to see a tail-like fleshy tendril burrowing into the doctor’s forehead, blood spurting out.
"What the hell is that?" the Secretary of Defense, Nock, yelled in horror, drawing his gun. "Die!"
"No!" The doctor tried to stop Nock. His eyes filled with blood vessels as something burrowed towards his brain.
BANG! BANG! Gunshots rang out. Blood sprayed from the doctor’s body. He swayed but did not fall. Instead, fleshy tendrils began to sprout from his mouth and nose.
"Aim for the head," Nock commanded, quickly changing his order upon seeing this.
The Guards, armed with M-16 rifles, fired at the doctor’s head. Greenish blood splattered, and the writhing fleshy tendrils quickly withered.
The doctor fell backward.
Nock hurriedly distanced himself from Tani, pointed the gun at him, and shouted, "Are you a Monster?!"
