Chapter 440: Chapter 438 The Second Monday of the Holiday_1

Late July, Monday.

Morimoto Chiyoda used a knife to diagonally slice the toast, cutting the meat and lettuce inside in half as well.

With the fresh sandwiches made, she carried two plates to the serving window, placed them outside, and then closed the window again.

Morimoto Chiyoda untied her white apron, hung it up, and stepped out of the kitchen.

She went to Aozawa’s door, raised her hand to knock, and said softly, "Aozawa, breakfast is ready. Time to get up."

Her sultry voice drifted through the crack in the door and into Aozawa’s ears.

He woke up to see familiar characters before him.

Superpower: Infinity Big.

Aozawa blinked, and the large characters gradually dissolved into the air. He performed a carp-like flip off the bed and onto the floor.

Judging by its literal meaning, this superpower should be related to making things bigger. Does it make me bigger, or objects bigger? Or maybe just a specific part of my body?

Doubts flashed through his mind, but Aozawa didn’t rush to test it. Instead, he walked to his wardrobe and opened it. Inside, clothes were hung neatly, and even his boxer shorts were tidily folded.

Chitose organized all of this. If it were up to me, I’d just bunch them up and shove them in. As long as the door closes, it’s fine.

He looked over his options and decided on a blue and white combination: a pure white T-shirt paired with light blue tracksuit bottoms. Then, he bent down to pick up the black travel bag from the bottom of the wardrobe.

He turned, walked out of the room, and tossed the bag into the corridor before proceeding to the washroom. He filled a cup with water and squeezed toothpaste onto his toothbrush.

While brushing his teeth, Aozawa raised his left hand and activated his Fate Weaving ability.

Threads emerged from the surrounding walls, converging before him into a book, followed by a pen.

The Book of Destiny’s pages turned as if stirred by an unseen wind. Aozawa saw that the destiny he had written last week was still on its pages, indicating that the previous week’s records hadn’t been erased.

To test how much Fate Weaving had weakened, Aozawa began to write Emily’s destiny.

"Today, Emily will accidentally break her leg while getting out of bed and be sent to the hospital for treatment. After being discharged, she will indulge in something she’s allergic to and have to return to the hospital.

Just as she leaves the hospital, she will choke on water, coughing so hard she breaks a rib, and end up hospitalized once more.

When she is discharged again, she will catch a severe cold and have to return to the hospital for IV drips. All of these events will occur within the next three days."

After writing this unfortunate destiny, Aozawa tried to write about Katerina. He had barely written a few characters of Katerina’s name when the ink seemed to be devoured by the blank page, silently disappearing.

He tried to write Takahashi Saeko’s name, but it too vanished.

Can I only write one person’s destiny per day now? Or does it mean that from now on, as long as one person’s destiny written in the Book of Destiny is active, I can’t write about a second person? After thinking about it, I’ll have to wait until tomorrow to confirm the answer. He pushed aside his doubts. No rush. A day passes quickly.

...

After deactivating his Fate Weaving ability, Aozawa spat out the minty water, washed his face, and quickly wiped his hair with a towel.

He looked at his short crew cut and still ran a comb through it symbolically.

Aozawa set down the comb, left the washroom, picked up the bag from the corridor, and entered the living room.

Morimoto Chiyoda was sitting at the dining table, dressed in a light blue Police Director uniform. Instead of a skirt, she wore trousers more suitable for activity.

Her long, dark hair was tied into a single ponytail, with only a few strands framing each side of her face. She glanced at Aozawa’s attire and asked, "Are you planning to leave this morning?"

"Yeah." Aozawa nodded. Since Tokyo and Fukuoka were quite far apart, they needed to head to Fukuoka a day early and stay overnight.

If Brilliant High School had a girls’ kendo club, he would have had to set out for Fukuoka two days earlier, as the Jade Dragon Flag high school girls’ competition was held for two days before the boys’ matches.

However, Brilliant High School wasn’t a kendo powerhouse. It only had a boys’ division, with no girls participating in the sport, so they only needed to head to Fukuoka today.

In the afternoon, their club captain would draw lots, and the boys’ Jade Dragon Flag competition would begin tomorrow.

How long would it last? That would depend on the strength of both sides. Two days, at least.

According to the Jade Dragon Flag’s deathmatch system, a powerful individual could defeat all opposing teams in a single day.

Aozawa indeed intended to finish all his matches within a single day, and he believed Sunaga Takashi felt the same way.

Accomplishing such a feat would undoubtedly be an honor unprecedented in the history of the Jade Dragon Flag competition.

"Good luck," Morimoto Chiyoda said, though she was pessimistic about his chances of winning.

Aozawa approached with a grin and teased, "Chitose, do you want to come to Fukuoka tomorrow to witness my glorious victory?"

"I have work."

Morimoto Chiyoda had wanted to go watch him at the venue, but unfortunately, too much had been happening lately, especially after the incident last night.

Since it was Monday, she had no idea what new schemes the "heaven-bound" Dio might be plotting. The special task force’s workload was so heavy that she couldn’t spare the time to go to Fukuoka for the Jade Dragon Flag competition.

A hint of mock resentment appeared on Aozawa’s face as he said, "Chitose, you’ve changed. You never used to treat me like this. Don’t you love me anymore?"

His aggrieved tone, like that of a petulant young wife, made Morimoto Chiyoda want to laugh. She rolled her eyes at him. "Listen to you. I didn’t go to the Jade Dragon Flag last time either."

Aozawa didn’t answer, continuing to stare at her with that reproachful look.

Morimoto Chiyoda knew very well that when he put on such an expression, he was angling for some kind of favor.

There’s really nothing I can do with him.

Morimoto Chiyoda sighed inwardly, picked up her coffee, and said, "Alright, to express my affection for you, I’ll wear Hanfu for you as a reward after it’s all over."

Hearing this, the resentful look on Aozawa’s face vanished instantly. He grinned. "It’s a promise! Hehe, I bought thirteen sets of Hanfu—one formal set and twelve disposable ones, for you to mess around with as you please. They should arrive this afternoon or tomorrow. Remember to get them."

"Alright."

Morimoto Chiyoda rolled her eyes at Aozawa. Thirteen sets! This guy really is energetic. It actually made her a little eager and look forward to the Hanfu’s arrival.

...

After finishing breakfast, Aozawa picked up his bag and headed straight for Ayase Station.

The morning sun shone brightly. Patches of white clouds drifted across the azure sky. Aozawa figured he had plenty of time, so he didn’t rush, instead strolling at a leisurely pace.

DRRING! His phone buzzed in his pocket. Aozawa took it out and unlocked it. It was a message from Iroha. He opened it.

It was just one picture.

Large pentagram stickers were placed over each breast. She wasn’t wearing any obstructive clothing, and written on her skin below her neck were the words: "Aozawa, Jade Dragon Flag, good luck!"

The crooked characters looked like they had been painstakingly written one stroke at a time while looking in a mirror. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎

However, Aozawa’s attention wasn’t immediately drawn to the words, but rather to Iroha making a heart shape with her hands. The way her hands pushed her breasts together created a deep cleavage that reminded him of tofu being pressed in a heart-shaped mold.

Reading the words was almost an afterthought. This pose was definitely Takahashi and the others’ idea. Well done!

Aozawa typed back: "Iroha, with your encouragement, I’m sure to win the competition!"

"Yes, I believe in your strength!" Ayatsuki Ayaka replied quickly, then sent another message: "Have you left yet? I’ve finished breakfast and I’m getting ready to go shopping with Saeko and the others."

Aozawa replied truthfully. Then another DING! Shouko also sent a message cheering him on, followed by the class president and the young lady.

His club captain also sent a message, hurrying him and asking where he was.

Aozawa prioritized responding to Iroha and the others, making the captain wait.

By the time Aozawa reached Ayase Station, he had explained things to Iroha and the others and ended their chat.

If I kept chatting non-stop with girls at a time like this, it would definitely provoke the resentment of the captain and that bunch of lonely guys.

"Aozawa, you’re so slow!" Kenji Kojima shouted, waving his hand.

All sixteen members of the kendo club, including the first-years, had gathered here.

At this potentially glorious moment of victory, naturally, no one from the kendo club wanted to miss out. Only five were competing, but the honor would belong to the entire Brilliant High School Kendo Club.

No one wanted to miss the group photo after the matches, holding up the Jade Dragon Flag or the championship trophy. That would be the most precious memory of their school days. For them, it might also be the most glorious moment of their lives.

"Captain, we agreed to be here before eight, and I arrived at seven fifty-six," Aozawa said.

"Still too laid-back! We got here at seven-thirty," Kenji Kojima retorted. He wasn’t so much complaining as just trying to make conversation. His expression was one of extreme excitement; it looked like he hadn’t slept well last night.

Aozawa rolled his eyes and said irritably, "Then you should have told us to gather at seven-thirty."

"Tsk! You really don’t understand the solemnity of departure." Kenji Kojima clicked his tongue but didn’t pursue the topic. Instead, he asked, "By the way, did you see that short video of the miracle performed by the new mayor of New York yesterday?"

"How could I have missed it?" another club member chimed in. "It’s gone viral online. David is being hailed as the Saint Heir, even though he keeps insisting he’s no such thing."

"It’s unbelievable!" someone else exclaimed. "Different Worlds, Monsters, miracles... Does God actually exist?"

"I wonder what Amaterasu Omikami looks like," another mused. "I’m more curious though—if gods really exist, are all those myths true?"

"If they are, then Greek mythology is one wild ride!"

"It’s not just Greek mythology. Almost every mythology has something to do with... *that kind of thing*. Fuxi and Nuwa were siblings, and so were Adam and Eve."

"But none of that compares to Greek mythology!" a boy declared. "Gaea, the Earth Mother, and her son Uranus, the Sky God; Zeus and his sister Hera... The plot twists are so explosive, not even adult manga would dare draw them that way!"

"Hey, careful what you say, or Zeus might smite you with a lightning bolt!" another joked.

"Whoa, how terrifying!"

The group chuckled and chatted away, their expressions showing they weren’t taking deities seriously, let alone Different Worlds or Monsters.

Ultimately, those things were like major international events—too far removed from their own lives. They only saw such things on TV and the internet. In their actual, everyday lives, they never encountered a single Monster.

Aside from giving them more to talk about, their lives hadn’t changed significantly. News about murders caused by Dio or Monsters, or whispers of an impending doomsday, were all tightly controlled by the authorities. Even the disappearance of Mount Fuji, which thankfully hadn’t caused any casualties, only elicited gasps of astonishment at most.

Aozawa chatted and joked idly with them, and time flew by.
