Chapter 94: Chapter 94: I Can’t Come In for Tea?

"Sorry, please put your phones away."

Miles reached out to shield Vera Yves’s face, "Your current behavior is already invading her privacy rights."

The group of influencers reluctantly put their phones away.

Miles escorted Vera onto the car.

The influencers’ live streaming channels exploded with chatter.

"Such a handsome man! Is he a celebrity?"

"What’s his relationship with the most beautiful angel?"

"He looks somewhat familiar... I think I’ve seen his legal live stream before, didn’t expect him to be even more handsome in person!"

Miles noticed Vera’s face was a bit pale, and leaned over to help buckle her seatbelt, "Vera, it’s all over now."

Vera seemed to come back to her senses, looking at Miles with reddened eyes, "Why do they still slander Grandpa Yves even after he’s gone? He saved so many people, why...why won’t anyone speak up for him?"

"Vera, there are definitely people who will thank Grandpa Yves, but those voices go unheard," Miles said gently, "After all, it’s easier to destroy a god than to create one."

Miles gently touched her icy cheek, "I’m sorry I wasn’t there with you at that time, but this time, I’ll help you find out the truth from back then, okay?"

Vera turned her face away, avoiding his hand.

Miles looked at his empty palm and started the car.

Miles drove her back to the apartment and saw Nathan Norton at the door holding a bouquet of roses.

Nathan, his legs aching from standing, smiled and handed her the bouquet, "Sister, I’ve been waiting for you for so long. Can I come in for a cup of tea?"

His face was pale, looking as if he’d just recovered from a severe illness yet ready to faint at any moment. Vera found it hard to refuse him.

She took the flowers, having a thought, and looked over at Miles, "Miles, I’m fine now. You can go back."

Miles, somewhat incredulous, glanced at Nathan’s slightly youthful face, "Why, can’t I come in for a cup of tea?"

Vera frowned and opened the door.

Miles and Nathan walked into the living room one after the other.

Vera went into the kitchen, with Nathan trailing behind like a small tail, "Sister, I don’t want tea, do you have any cola?"

"No," Vera turned around to look at him, "and even if there was, I wouldn’t give you any."

Nathan looked at her with a face full of grievance, obediently saying, "I know Sister is doing it for my good, I’ll listen to Sister."

Nathan returned to the sofa, looking across at Miles, his demeanor changing from obedient to cheeky, "Uncle, I have a lot to discuss with Sister. It’s inconvenient for you to be here, can you leave?"

Uncle?

Miles let out a chuckle and bluntly replied, "No."

Vera brought out the tea, deliberately pouring Nathan a glass of plain water. Nathan took a sip, "Water that Sister pours is sweet."

Vera looked at him helplessly, "Just call me Vera."

"Sister is a nickname, Sister will always be eighteen in my heart."

Miles raised an eyebrow at him, suddenly wanting to sew his mouth shut.

"Vera, can I take a look at the materials you organized?"

Vera nodded, and the two of them went into the study. Vera handed him the materials. Nathan followed, "Sister, do you have a vase? I’d like to help you put the flowers away."

Vera walked out of the study. Miles watched her figure disappear, feeling a bit troubled in his heart. Could she really be interested in this young guy?

Vera found a vase and put the flowers in.

Nathan by her side kept calling her ’Sister,’ giving Vera a headache. She pulled out a business card and handed it to him, "I actually wanted to introduce you to a doctor. You should go see him."

Nathan’s smile froze for a moment, but he didn’t take the card, "My illness can’t be cured."

"He is a heart specialist with successful cases," Vera said succinctly, "If you’re interested, I can help you contact him."

Nathan took the business card, "Then I’ll thank Sister in advance."

"No need to thank me, just have your agency delete the statement."

"But I really like Sister and want to pursue Sister," Nathan said with a smile, "I’ve never cared about forever, just the moments we have. I absolutely won’t cause Sister any trouble."

Noticing a figure not far away, Nathan’s legs suddenly went weak, and Vera instinctively supported him.

Nathan took the opportunity to hold her in his arms, though his eyes were on Miles, and whispered in Vera’s ear, "Sister, I remember, I’ve seen this man before."

Vera’s hand paused in response.

Nathan continued, "More than two years ago, he proposed to a woman, a woman you should know, named Jane Shea."

Vera froze for a moment, her heart feeling a bit choked, like a physiological reaction.

Coming back to her senses, she gently helped him stand upright.

Miles, standing at a distance, could only see the two in an intimate embrace.

Flashes of Zoe Monroe’s words crossed his mind.

If it were Zoe Monroe hugging a man at that moment, he was sure he wouldn’t have this jealousy-like emotion.

After leaving Vera’s apartment, Miles received a call from Seth Quinn.

"Scott Abbott got beaten up, he won’t be able to get out of bed for at least a month, now the Abbott Family has reported it. This wasn’t your doing, was it?"

Miles furrowed his brow, "Do you think I’d break the law knowingly?"

"Aren’t we collecting evidence of his crimes?"

Miles’s expression was cold, "Keep investigating."

"The Abbott Family has considerable influence. If you really send him in, can your old man handle it?"

Miles nonchalantly let out a laugh, "Reporting illegal activities is every citizen’s legal obligation."

After seeing the two off, Vera intended to continue organizing her materials, but Zoe Monroe called, insisting she accompany her to choose a dress.

Vera had no choice but to go out again.

In a few days, it’s Old Master Monroe’s 80th birthday. After everything that happened, the Monroe Family decided to organize a grand event to lift his spirits.

Accompanying her to the styling studio, they ran into Winston Valentine as soon as they walked in.

Zoe Monroe immediately acted like a protective mother hen, shielding Vera behind her, "What bad luck!"

Seeing Winston, Vera’s mind uncontrollably flashed back to those ridiculous scenes.

Winston held a cigarette in his hand, his gaze landing on Vera’s face. She seemed to have lost some weight in the few days they hadn’t seen each other.

No one spoke as Winston brushed past them.

Zoe Monroe tried on a dress, with some measurements needing adjustments.

"Vera, have you chosen a dress yet?"

In reality, Vera hadn’t planned on attending Old Master Monroe’s birthday banquet.

Seeing her silence, Zoe knew her thoughts, "If you don’t go, Grandpa will definitely be upset. How long has it been since you celebrated his birthday?"

Zoe decisively dragged Vera to pick out a dress. Since custom orders were too late, she had to choose one off the rack and alter the size.

Zoe settled on a dress and asked the staff to get it.

"Sorry, I’ve already chosen this dress."

Cecilia Vaughn, dressed in bespoke attire and exuding an air of elegance and luxury, smiled at Vera and Zoe Monroe.

Zoe gave her a look of disgust, "You endless pair of scum!"

Cecilia crossed her arms, her gaze dismissive as she looked at Vera, "Tonight, regardless of which one she picks, I want it!"

Vera smiled calmly at her, "A mistress is a mistress; they always love taking what’s not theirs."
