Chapter 91: Chapter 91: Who Are You to Her?

"Bang bang bang!"

It felt like you could hear his accelerating heartbeat in the carriage.

A soft tongue licked at his lips, trying to pry open his teeth.

Little hands urgently tugged at his clothes.

His brain didn’t even have time to think, only wanting instinctively to respond to her.

Her lips were soft and sweet, her body felt as soft as water, threatening to drown him.

The light from outside the car fell on her flushed skin and her misty eyes.

His brain began to restart. No, it shouldn’t be like this! It can’t be like this!

Winston Valentine forcefully pushed her away, leaned against the car window, and breathed heavily.

Vera Yves’s hair was a mess, her clothes were disheveled by her own hands, her lips swollen from kisses, and her innocent eyes looked at him as she followed her body’s instincts to lean in again.

Winston snapped back to reality, took off his coat, and wrapped her tightly.

Vera could not move and looked up at him with a pitiful gaze.

Even Winston’s body was tense, not feeling much better than her, as he took a few deep breaths, "What are you looking at?"

Vera uneasily moved, "You look so handsome, let me kiss you, okay?"

Winston reached out his hand, pressing against her irresistibly charming eyes, "Shut up!"

The car stopped, and Winston breathed a sigh of relief.

At the hospital, after a sedative, the little woman in his arms finally quieted down.

Her eyelashes trembled lightly, with tears of grievance still hanging from the corners of her eyes.

Winston placed her on the hospital bed, reached out to wipe her tear stains, but before he could touch her, a force pulled him away.

Miles looked at Vera, lying helpless on the hospital bed, his heart was in a knot. He turned around and fiercely grabbed Winston’s collar, "What did you do to her?"

Winston looked at him coldly, "What does it have to do with you? Who do you think you are to her?"

"And who do you think you are to her?"

Beside them, Mark Yves guiltily said, "It wasn’t him... it was..."

Winston pushed Miles away, glanced at Mark with sharp eyes, and Mark guiltily avoided his gaze.

Vera felt like she had a dream, back to a day shortly after she and Winston got married, he returned from a business trip after a month and was handling official business in the study. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

She had simmered soup for him and brought it to the study, planning to leave, but who knew he would pull her onto his lap.

Even though the two of them were not that familiar with each other, he could flirt with her without blushing or skipping a heartbeat.

The images became more chaotic, she seemed to still feel the heat of his breath on her face.

Suddenly a thought flashed by, they were already divorced!

Vera broke out in a cold sweat and opened her eyes.

"Vera, you’re awake."

A touch of coolness came from her forehead. Vera came to her senses and saw Miles looking at her with concern, "Is there anywhere else you don’t feel well?"

Vera shook her head, remembering everything that happened before she lost consciousness, and Winston’s voice flashed in her mind, "Behave yourself!"

Vera closed her eyes, why did it have to be Winston!

Mark Yves walked into the hospital room carrying breakfast, and when he saw Vera was awake, he guiltily touched his nose.

Miles helped her sit up, let her lean against the headboard, then opened the breakfast, scooped a spoonful of porridge, and brought it to her lips, "Eat something light first."

Vera turned her head, took the porridge, "I’ll handle it myself."

After a few bites, Vera had no appetite, "Miles, why did you come?"

"I got your call last night, you didn’t speak and then hung up. When I called back, no one answered. I knew something must have happened to you," Miles looked at her pale face and the bandage on her neck, "but unfortunately, I was still too late."

So that call was made to him.

"Miles, I’m fine now, with Mark here accompanying me at the hospital, it’s enough."

"Yes, Miles, you’ve been with her all night, you should go rest for a while. I’ll be here."

Miles gave her face a comforting touch before standing up, "You have a good rest."

Watching him walk out of the hospital room, Vera turned to Mark, "Have they caught the person?"

"I reported it to the police, but..." Mark sat by the bedside, "That bastard’s family has some background, so it was useless."

He was so brazen, he must have been prepared.

"Why do you owe him 30 million?"

"They set a trap, saying there was an investment project, guaranteed to make money, so I wanted to make a bit more..."

"How much did you invest?"

"I had 20 million myself, then borrowed 30 million from him."

Vera picked up the porridge bowl and threw it at him furiously, spilling porridge all over him.

"Vera, are you crazy?!" Mark jumped from the chair, shaking his clothes.

"Can’t you think for a moment? If he has the money, why doesn’t he invest himself? Does he find money burdensome?"

Mark looked at the stains on his clothes that couldn’t be wiped off and was also maddened.

"Who the hell do you think I’m doing this for? Do you know what people out there are saying about you, about the Yves Family? If our family had money, would Winston dare to bully you like this?"

Vera looked at him calmly, "Your stupidity is no excuse to use me as a scapegoat."

"Even if I’m stupid, I can’t be as stupid as you!" Mark gritted his teeth, "You really dared to go that far! Aren’t you afraid of cutting an artery, dying right there!"

"Wouldn’t it be convenient for you to manage my burial after I’m dead?"

"Vera!"

Vera didn’t bother to look at him. She knew exactly where to cut so as not to endanger her life but still scare someone.

"He just said he wanted to meet you, how would I know..."

"Get out!"

Miles left the hospital when his assistant’s call came.

"Young Master Monroe, the person in the box last night was the son of Abbott Properties’ CEO, Scott Abbott."

Miles tightened his grip on the phone.

"The surveillance in the box was disabled beforehand, so what happened inside is still unclear, but surveillance outside showed Miss Yves was injured after coming out of the box, then taken away by President Valentine."

"I see."

Miles hung up, anger evident on his usually gentle face.

His phone rang again, seeing an unfamiliar number, Miles directly rejected it, only to receive a message shortly after.

"Miles, this is my new number, I heard you’re back in Imperia, let’s meet up if you have time. Jane Shea."

Miles was about to delete the message.

Another message came through—"Don’t be so unkind, okay?"

Miles looked at the message, was silent for a long time, and finally turned off the screen.

In a private room in The Gilded Age.

Theodore Xavier looked at the man who had been drinking all night.

"The surveillance was shut down by someone named Zhao ahead of time, definitely not spur of the moment. I questioned those who were in the box, that bastard got Vera Yves to drink a bottle, and there was something wrong with the drink."

Winston clenched his wine glass, a trace of killing intent flashing in his dark eyes.

Theodore, seeing his expression, reminded him, "That Zhao family has deep ties with the Shepherd Group. If you lay a hand on his son, how will you explain it to your mom?"

"When you’re in a high position, you attract attention, and I’m not the only one who wants to teach him a lesson."

"You’re divorced, yet still so concerned about her?" Theodore looked at him curiously, "Do you want to remarry her?"

Winston drank another glass of wine, "Why are you talking so much?"

He leaned back in his chair, closed his eyes, his mind filled with Vera’s innocent eyes and her slightly parted lips.

He forced himself not to think about it, yet he already knew how it felt, consuming and all-consuming.

When he thought of her calling him "husband," his heart was restless and uneasy.

If only she liked him... the crazy thought tried to break free.

Winston drank another glass, suppressing the heat in his heart.

After the drug’s effects completely wore off, scenes of Vera clinging to Winston like a koala flashed in her mind, and he disdainfully.

Vera felt uncomfortable all over, checked out of the hospital in the afternoon, and took a shower at home.

She came out of the bathroom and received a call from Seth Quinn, "Vera, Simon Warren jumped off the building and committed suicide."
