Chapter 86: Chapter 86: You Donโ€™t Even Want Grandma Anymore?

Vera Yves sat up. ๐“ฏ๐“ป๐’†๐™š๐’˜๐“ฎ๐™—๐“ท๐’๐“ฟ๐™š๐’.๐™˜๐“ธ๐™ข

"Alright, I need to ask Vera, is the person in the photo really her?"

"Why even ask? My daughter has already divorced that Valentine guy, whatโ€™s wrong with hugging someone? So Winston can fool around during the marriage but my daughter canโ€™t get a hug after the divorce?"

Veraโ€™s mind finally cleared up a bit. She reached for her phone and saw several missed calls, from Linda Young, Miles Monroe, and Zoe Monroe.

Vera called Linda Young back.

"Last night you and Miles were photographed, didnโ€™t you say it was impossible? How did you two end up hugging?"

"We... just hugged for a moment," Vera rubbed her temples, "I can guarantee you that when he hugged me, there were definitely no romantic feelings involved."

"Are you him? How are you so sure?" Linda Young spoke earnestly, "Youโ€™re twenty-seven now, not sixteen or seventeen, does Miles still treat you like a child?"

Vera was momentarily speechless; perhaps others wouldnโ€™t, but Miles really would.

Linda Young continued, "The photo only shows your face, clearly the whistleblower is wary of the Monroe Family, but people familiar with you should be able to recognize him."

After hanging up, Vera dialed Miles Monroe.

The Monroe family study.

"Why did you return to the country?" Mason Monroe looked solemnly at his son in front of him.

Miles Monroe remained expressionless, as his relationship with his father had always been strained due to his departure abroad over the years.

"Havenโ€™t you and Mom always hoped Iโ€™d come back?"

"If you cared about us, you wouldnโ€™t have left in the first place!"

Miles was silent for a moment, "I never planned to stay abroad forever; returning was inevitable, and Grandpaโ€™s illness was just an opportunity."

"Your grandpa had a serious illness, and weโ€™re unsure how long heโ€™ll last. If youโ€™re truly filial, you should follow his wishes, go on blind dates, and marry a granddaughter-in-law quickly."

"There are heaps of things upon returning; I have no energy to start a new relationship."

"Yet you have the energy to hug the Yves girl."

Miles calmly explained, "The report took things out of context; Iโ€™ve always treated Vera like a sister."

"So youโ€™re not back because of Vera, but for that other woman?"

Milesโ€™ voice turned cooler, "No."

"Since itโ€™s not, then go on blind dates! Are you going to remain unmarried because of a woman?"

The atmosphere quickly dropped below freezing point.

Miles rubbed his temple wearily, "If going on a blind date makes you believe, then let it be as you arrange."

The phone rang, and Miles saw it was Veraโ€™s call, so he stepped out of the study to answer.

"Miles, Iโ€™m sorry for causing you trouble."

"Vera, donโ€™t say that; Iโ€™m the one who caused you trouble."

"Divorcing him was never going to be peaceful."

Vera had been mentally prepared for it; everyone in The Valentine Family wasnโ€™t easy to deal with, and especially Melinda Shelby, who looked down on her. The reason why Winston issued such a statement was to prevent the Valentine Family from turning the tables on her too harshly.

"Vera, donโ€™t worry, since Iโ€™ve returned, I wonโ€™t let anyone bully you again."

Vera went to visit Hillside Villa.

After the surgery, Vera maintained phone communication with Cleo Suttonโ€™s medical team, adjusting the medication plan.

Cleo Sutton looked a lot better; no longer relying on a wheelchair, she could already walk a few steps with assistance.

Rae Rhodes supported Cleo Sutton, smiling happily.

"Aunt Sutton, during New Year, letโ€™s go set off fireworks together, okay?"

Cleo Sutton gazed at her tenderly, "Okay."

Rae Rhodesโ€™ eyes reddened, "Aunt Sutton, may I call you Mom?"

Cleo Sutton was momentarily at a loss for words.

"Since I can remember, Iโ€™ve been staying at the welfare home, adopted at seven, but they never loved me," Rae said, tears falling like scattered beads, "No one has ever treated me as well as you have."

Cleo Sutton also got teary-eyed, wiping Raeโ€™s tears from her cheeks.

"Can you be my mom, please?"

"Child, actually... I am your mom."

Rae Rhodes was just momentarily shocked, then threw herself into Cleo Suttonโ€™s arms, crying inconsolably.

Vera hadnโ€™t expected to witness such a mother-daughter reunion.

Tristan Valentine went upstairs and saw the two embracing. His emotions didnโ€™t fluctuate much.

Rae Rhodes let go of Cleo Sutton, her eyes hinting at expectation, as she patiently called Mr. Valentine.

Tristan Valentine nodded and walked to Cleo Suttonโ€™s side, "Why are your eyes so red from crying?"

Cleo Sutton laughed, "Iโ€™m just too happy. I never thought..."

"Tired? Get some rest." Tristan Valentine gently adjusted her clothes, "Iโ€™ll take you out for a spin in the afternoon."

Cleo Sutton nodded.

Tristan Valentine and Vera went downstairs together, leaving Rae Rhodes perplexed, since sheโ€™d found Cleo Sutton, why wouldnโ€™t Cleo let her connect with Tristan?

At the bottom of the stairs.

Tristan Valentine said in a deep voice, "The divorce issue is our Valentineโ€™s Familyโ€™s fault towards you."

Vera found it amusing; Tristan Valentine had his own woman outside, yet he apologized on behalf of Winston?

"Mr. Valentine truly feels heโ€™s at fault? Or does he just think it tarnished the Valentineโ€™s reputation?"

Tristan Valentine gave Vera a surprised look, "Even though Melinda treated you like that, youโ€™re still defending her?"

"Iโ€™m merely curious about where the moral baseline of adulterers lies."

A sentence, with no room for sentiment.

Tristan Valentine met Veraโ€™s candid gaze, his heart slightly touched.

He didnโ€™t know his former daughter-in-law well; whichever occasion they met, she always called him โ€™Dadโ€™ with a smile, considerate and poised.

Turns out she had such a sharp tongue as well, quite reminiscent of Cleo from memory, no wonder Cleo found kinship with her.

"I really have no moral baseline," Tristan Valentine chuckled, "You should know, in this circle, itโ€™s not morals but rules that matter. What you think of me doesnโ€™t matter, but donโ€™t see Cleo as so sordid; I forced her."

Vera said nothing more and turned to leave the villa.

Yet her heart was choked with frustration.

Are all men like this, bestowing all their favoritism and affection on their beloved muse, while deluding themselves with supposedly profound sentiment?

If they really loved so deeply, why involve someone unrelated as a witness?

Halfway, Vera received a call from Old Mrs. Valentine.

Vera hesitated for a moment, then pulled over to answer.

"Vera, this matter is Winstonโ€™s fault towards you. I donโ€™t have much to offer, but the shop I promised to give you will be transferred to your name,"

Vera clenched her phone, "Grand... Old Mrs. Valentine, Iโ€™ve parted ways with him, I canโ€™t take anything from you anymore."

"He is him, I am me!" Old Mrs. Valentine said with vigor, "In the future, I wonโ€™t have that scoundrel grandson. If you donโ€™t mind, still call me Grandma, come see me whenever you can."

"I really donโ€™t want the stuff," Veraโ€™s attitude was resolute, "Since the divorce, I wish for no more entanglements with the past."

Old Mrs. Valentineโ€™s voice fell into desolation, "Vera, you donโ€™t even want Grandma?"

Vera steeled herself and hung up the call.

Old Mrs. Valentine listened to the busy signal, just as Winston Valentine came downstairs.

"Where are you headed?"

"Hospital."

Old Mrs. Valentine spoke coldly, "Is the child really yours?"
